The last thing the Bucs have to worry about at this point is losing defensive coordinator Mike Smith after the season.
Smith understandably has his sights on another NFL head coaching job, but that won’t happen unless Tampa Bay’s new defensive coordinator whips an overhauled unit into shape.
Through three weeks, it’s not happening. (more…)

Recently in this space, I detailed Jason Licht’s impressive track record through his first two draft classes as GM of the Bucs.

The ineptitude of the Buccaneers on the field Sunday was matched by the incompetence of analyst Charles Davis in the broadcast booth.
In his summation, Davis had the audacity to suggest the Bucs would somehow benefit from the trouncing in the desert. I doubt he mentioned that bit of insight to Dirk Koetter after the game.
Here’s 10 takeaways to chew on when you’re done retching: (more…)

A few days before the Bucs departed for Atlanta, Kwon Alexander admitted he left a lot of plays on the Georgia Dome field last year, vowing he wasn’t going to let that happen again.
Mission accomplished. (more…)

The last time the Bucs opened a season with a divisional road win, Ray Perkins was stalking the Pontiac Silverdome sidelines in 1990, berating officials.
Tampa Bay has fired seven head coaches since that point, so Sunday’s victory was especially notable.
