“Steep Climb” For Mason Foster

October 10th, 2013

Back in May, Greg Schiano talked about Mason Foster “working like a madman” to improve. Schiano echoed the same kind of takes this summer.

The head coach had high expectations for his middle linebacker entering this season. So Joe asked Schiano yesterday whether Foster had reached those goals. Schiano was as enthusiastic about Foster as he was five months ago.

“I think Mason, he made a jump in his performance. I think he’s playing better than he’s ever played. And yes, I think he’s playing at a high level,” Schiano said. “He’s playing at NFL middle linebacker level that you can get excited about. Now the challenge is going to be over the long haul; can we do that consistently? It’s not going to be that steep climb he’s made in the last six months. You know, can we continue a gradual climb the rest of this season. Because I think he really is becoming a very good linebacker.”

Foster’s continued improvement is a welcome sight. Da’Quan Bowers’ is the Bucs’ top bust of the 2011 draft, but Foster was a steal late in the third round.

Foster’s improvement is encouraging…I stlll think he is somewhat out of postition but he’s making it work nonetheless.

As far as Bowers is concerned…I still have some hopes for him.
Hopefully we made the right call on Means & Gholsten…

    Three days.

I challenge everyone here to speak nothing but positive things about the Bucs, players and coaches for three days, ending after Sundays game.

What can it hurt? Try the power of positive thinking.

    @Bonzai

You know you’ll get nothing but positive from me. As a fan since the beginning, I’ve learned that the negatives just don’t help anything….oh, constructive criticism…yes….disappointment…yes…but to be outright beligerent speaks more to the character of the fan than it does the team.

    More fat guy touchdowns, please.

And good luck wth that positive thinking. I consider myself to be an optimist, but this season has been a steaming bucket of sh!t thus far.

I would have liked to have seen how much Black could have improved with solid coaching. That could have been a lights out threesome of Black, Foster & David. Foster reminds me of Quarles, very hard worker that seeks to be better.

Going to be fun watching this team grow in the next few years. Window is opening, just need to fill some holes.

Love the guy and love his Ric Flair celebration! Plays with a nose for the ball.

With that said, I have been watching Carolina games on NFL rewind just to watch Keuchly be a badass at MLB. Not going into the wholw BArron vs nonsense as I believe Barron is a baller in his own right, but goddamn is Keuchly a beast out there.

LVD>Keuchly. Yes I love the Ric Flair moves after a good play by Mason.

  10. BucDan Says:

I watch a whole lot of football and I will say that in my eyes, LVD is a ball hawk just like Keuchly. I can only imagine having two of those guys on the same side of the ball.

  11. BucDan Says:

    Bobby,

I think Black was on to something because he seemed faster on the football field than Watson (who is a freak athlete in his own right). Too many football players are having to leave the game lately due to neck injuries, which in all reality are herniated discs. Keep those heads up!!!!!!

The way he baited Drew Brees into that pick, and of course his subsequentially spectcular return was simply beautiful.

Perfect example of patience in a player being rewarded by results. I remember a lot of people were ready to run Foster out of town during his rookie year but he had the legitimate handicap of having no offseason due to the lockout and the task of QB’ing the defense. I always liked Foster since the hit he put on Chad Johnson/Ochocinco in preseason his rookie year.
