Gruden is becoming iconic again to Bucs fans just as Ditka did to Bears fans years after an ugly ” divorce”. What a $hit show since Chucky was chucked except for 2010. I’d take him back in a minute and admittedly was ready for a change when he was ousted. Opening for Van Halen is Cinderella.. Playing: “You Don’t Know What You’ve Got -Til It’s Gone!”

Gruden would love to tinker with this Buccaneer Roster. The guy knows Football and can tap into REAL NFL COACHES. Remember the last time you brought him in HE HAD TO INHERIT that coaching staff and hit the ground running.

Gruden would have made Freeman better…no doubt in my mind. He would have played to his strengths and encouraged him to (gasp) roll out and run much more. He may have even created some favorable match-ups ( Joey J. on a linebacker, anyone?) instead of two runs up the gut followed by predictable patterns by Jackson & Williams.

Gruden, if he came back (not happening but dare to dream I guess) should be required to draft his own QB. No more trying to turn retreads or vets into players, draft a rookie and develop him. I’d much rather see what Gruden could do with a Marcus Mariota than a Josh Freeman. Freeman has too many horrible tendancies that aren’t going anywhere because they’re ingrained into him.

Like Gruden and appreciate him helping the Bucs turn the corner to get a Lombardi trophy, but I believe he gets credit as a QB guru and IMO that’s not the case. He’s great with an established veteran(Gannon, Johnson, Garcia), but with the young QB’s he had here(Gradkowski,Simms), they were nothing to write home about.

Sorry, you did to Gruden just what you’re trying to do to Schiano. Fans are stupid. Owners generally have more patience and more vision and because of that they have a heck of a lot more money. It’s Schiano for at least another year. If he doesn’t get it turned around then we’ll see another coach and you can all b!tch and moan for another 4-5 years.

How long have you been a fan of the Bucs, Patrick? The Glazers paid for players when Gruden was the coach. Do you remember Charlie Garner? Luke Petitgout? Jeff Garcia? Traded for and paid Joey Galloway. There are several others, most of them were veteran players approaching the end of their prime or just washed up. The poor drafting during the Gruden/Allen regime also hurt the team, and let’s not forget the bounty of picks the Bucs gave up to bring in Gruden himself (which was worth it and will always be worth it for the Super Bowl win).
Do you remember the great player purge when Gruden was fired? Almost a dozen veteran players were released and most of them never played a down of football in the NFL again.
It would have been nice to see Gruden and Mark Dominik together. Dominik has had far superior drafts compared to Allen/Gru and the Glazers brought in legit stars over the last couple years. And finally, sadly, there was a time where Josh Freeman looked like a rising star. It would have been interesting to see what Gruden would have done with Freeman and the weapons on offense. I know it would have been better than running Doug Martin into a pile for a minimal gain every other down, that’s for sure.

Gannon Garcia and Johnson all made the pro bowl under Chucky.
He likes an experienced guy to run his offense. It works.

My guess is that Schiano gets time to prove what he can do about getting the offense going and salvaging the season to some extent. If he does get replaced this year we should have Wannstadt be interim coach and really take some time to look for a great replacement, not just hire someone out of desperation because they’re available.

Mike Tirico, watch the damn games before you make comments idiot. Despite what the scoreboard says, Freeman had one of his most accurate outings against the Pats. Ironically, that may have been one of the worst outing of Bucs receiving core in a long time.
