Darrelle Revis Not Confident Of Trade To Bucs

April 5th, 2013

darrelle revis 0405

It seems cornerback Darrelle Revis is of the mind that the Jets, his current employer, are not about to get a deal done that sends him to the Bucs.

NFL.com’s Ian Rapoport appeared on NFL Network this evening and spoke to someone who has first-hand access to Revis. Per Rapoport’s contact, Revis doesn’t think the Jets and the Bucs can finish a deal, as the two teams have come to a stalemate in the trade talks.

While Revis, per Rapoport, believes the Bucs will pay him well and Revis believes his best chance of hitting a payday is with a trade to the Bucs, Rapoport claims the Jets are insist on getting the Bucs’ No. 13 pick in this month’s draft. He also claims Bucs rock star general manager Mark Dominik has his heels dug in and he will not give up that pick.

What does Joe think? Bravo, Dominik, bravo. You have all the leverage Mr. Dominik. Don’t cave.

I agree with you joe . . . Think what will happen to the jets while Dom picks 2 cb’s in the draft . . . Blowin up Dom phone (he may think its fake)

  2. bucfanjeff Says:

Agreed. Bucs have all the leverage. We should offer a #2 this year and #2 next and hold firm. We’re the only ones in the game. We can hold out and pay him next year when he’s a FA and he’s proved himself healthy.

  3. Sunny Says:

Again also tells me free is here for some time if is going give up the next years first which is fine if he can get things together we could have been a playoff te last night evn though free had some bad games if the defense was better and revis and some new tools will do that

  4. Terraj Says:

I hope Dom holds strong but I see him caving near draft day and giving up too much (maybe this years 2nd and next years 1st. Too much IMO. Never give up your 1st).

Now I’m going to say something every person here will bash..How about the Bucs 2nd pick, 3rd pick, and Blount for Revis and Tebow. I know Tebow is not a real qb and he brings a circus of media but you better believe that stadium will sell out and get the Bucs on tv. Plus if Freeman got outplayed by Tebow no one could say Freeman is a franchise qb lol….also it helps the Jets with their weak running back crew.

  5. St Augustine Says:

    come again?

  6. gotbbucs Says:

    @Terraj

Tebow’s NFL days are over. It would suprise the hell out of me if anybody even picked him up once he’s released.

  7. liveinGAbutcantstanddirtybirds Says:

At this point who knows with all the smoke screens that are happening. I saw something on Facebook that the Bucs are trying to trade for Tebow. Love the guy but I don’t think he is what we need. Although he might sell more tickets.

  8. jb Says:

Right On!!! Let ’em eat cake. If they’re stupid enough not to trade him now for a 1st rounder in 2014, SCREW ‘EM!!!
We’ll get the help we need through the draft, then sign him as a FA next March without giving up a thing!

  9. Adam Says:

give up the picks. It’s not like Dominik’s batting average with HIGH picks is getting him to Cooperstown.

  10. Mr Lucky Says:

    @Terraj

HOLD ON COWBOY – I WROTE THAT SAME TRADE OVER A MONTH AGO!!!

It makes too much sense for the Bucs to do that.

  11. Andrew 1 Says:

this on again, off again crap with Revis is getting old and annoying. I still think we haven’t heard the last of it.

  12. Andrew 1 Says:

the Jets know this will be the only time they can get something for Revis. next year he will go to the highest bidder and it aint ganna be the Jets. If they are smart they will try and get compensation for him and take our offer because its the best there ganna get.

  13. Jacko101 Says:

2 in this years draft and 1st in next years I say deal if not let’s do what we have to and draft the guys we need

  14. karl Says:

We will get Revis after June 1st because Dom isnt giving up our first rd pick this year and it will be a $12 Mil hit on Jets cap if they trade before June 1st (As previously reported-look it up).Once the draft goes by they wont have much choice, either sign to new deal or trade Revis and nobody else will have cap space to pay $15 Mil a year.Pretty simple to figure out.

  15. SirustheVirus Says:

Tebow Sucks!!! and he sucks so bad he’s probably one of the players coming out to say he’s gay!!There is nothing wrong with gay people let me just make that clear!!

  16. Hawaiian Buc Says:

You almost never see players traded on both sides in the NFL. It is almost always players for picks or picks for picks. As much as I want Revis, this is getting really old. If the Jets are stupid enough to not cave, then they will get no picks, and will lose Revis in 2014. That relationship has got to be scarred beyond repair. I hope if we don’t get him, he holds out on the Jets. Then we could get him for next year’s third round pick and laugh at them. However, if there is any organization to botch this up, it would be the Jets.

  17. Andrew 1 Says:

Bravo Dom, keep your heels dug in.

  18. Raphael Says:

Bravo Dom , keep them heels dug in….next year we can get him for no draft picks.

  19. Sunny Says:

Tebow?? Really what hell are we suppose to do with him?

@mr lucky I wouldn’t be proud of that

Fact is the only thing tebow could do is get us more national media in which we would look like clowns and sell tickets to all the gator lovers beyond that mr running out of the end zone is better

  20. andres Says:

Hell naw this draft is weak all around. Giving up this year’s 13 for Revis IS equvalent to getting a 1st round pick this year. Dom must think a DT is more important that a CB and can’t be more wrong. Ouch!

  21. Mitch Says:

Is it possible jets had revis camp divulge, or make up this information as a smokescreen to try and force Dom’s hand into giving a higher pick?

  22. Sunny Says:

    Mitch how about dom’s camp?

  23. mvermulm Says:

Will everyone please stop with the Tebow talk? The guy is horrible as a QB, and how is anyone going to sell tickets with a clipboard in their hand, or best case, as a blocker who maybe sees a few carries a game? I will lose my sh*t if he is brought into Tampa. People complain about Free, but ask for Tebow? Really?

  24. Anthony Gironda Says:

I hope we get Revis, we need cornerback help and two rookie draft picks and Eric Wright won’t help our cause (in my opinion).

    Darrelle Revis, come to Tampa!!!!

  25. Cassidy Says:

The unceremonious release of Brooks, signing Clayton, Ward, Black, Trueblood, Wright, etc. to huge contracts (they were our big splurges before Schiano), limited production from draft picks with the philosophy of building through the draft (before Schiano), no postseason appearances, and now reportedly wanting to use up next years #1 pick in the last year of his contract! Why not trade all 2014 and 2015 picks to move up and make trades for this year’s unspectacular draft class? Revis may be better than the number one overall pick, so I think he’s a bargain at 13. Just consider the scenario; we may need next year’s first round pick much more. I hope not, and I am rooting for Dom and Free, but just think ahead for a second. We will be rebuilding at QB if Freeman leads us through another losing season……and if Dominik doesn’t come through with significant upgrades and depth at CB with all this cap money, our most obvious need….. Go Bucs!

  26. upthegut Says:

    Memo to Dom:
Hang tough…..give away the farm – we will run you out of town.

  27. Dan Says:

So, no Revis, a 5-11 record, last place in the division again, 40,000 a game, all blackouts, ohhh yeah and the Rays, one of the best teams in baseball, Friday night and 16,000. HAHAHHA…… Tampa Bay….. What a sports town folks!!!!!! LMAO

  28. Architek Says:

Thats smart by Dominik because he might not ever get another shot or they may not be a next year first round pick for him. The Glazers seem serious about investing in the Bucs and getting back to the playoffs.

  29. You go Joe Says:

Tebow is a cursed man, first pass last season player gets injured. The hell with this Tebow trade. You’d be a fool to even consider it as an option. I’d rather trade for a kicker or punt returner than Tebow. And answer this, what does he bring? Consistency? Nope. accuracy? Nope

    On topic.

It has been mentioned that the jets would eff this up… And they are. And might do so. Hopefully theirs next year. If of course we have space

  30. Mr. Patrick Says:

Dear Mr. Dominick, PLEASE don’t give up the farm for this talented pain in the ass. No player in this game is worth all of those draft picks and all of that yearly money. He is coming off of major ACL surgery and could be damaged goods. And as last year shows, you can pay one player that much money and he takes one hit on the knee and he’s out for the year. You are in the power position here as the Jets are trying to figure out how to pull off this deal without getting egg on their face or shooting themselves in the foot. However, if you cant get him for what you think is fair without overestimating his value then just walk away and let Revis continue to be their problem. And what ever you do, don’t get into a position where you are bidding against yourself. Revis would make a great on the field addition to your team but with the draft picks you would have to give up and the money you would have to pay, you could find several other great additions. You hit it big with your top three draft picks last year and I would rather see you do that again rather than trading those picks for a player that is not a team player and might not fit in your new locker room enviroment that your new coach has successfully established. So I leave it to you Mr. Dominick to do what you think is best and right for your team. We will all be watching.

  31. BuccaneerBonzai Says:

No Gators fan here, but Tebow wins, has never had a rating below 72.9. I wouldn’t want him as a starter, but as a #2? Sometimes I think some people hate him just because he was a gator. He’s unorthox…but it works for him. McNair was unorthox as well.

On Revis…I’ve said from the start that it was nothing more than a smokescreen. I bet Dominick intentionally made a lownall offer. He DOES have a habit of getting a lot for a little in these trades. He’s probably the best trades guy I’ve seen.

  32. Joe D. Says:

Best news all off season, besides Goldson signing! Build via draft, the bucs aren’t one player away, hell they aren’t even one CB away.

  33. MTM Says:

And the media leverage tactics go into full speed. Buyer beware.

  34. 4everBucsFan Says:

As much as I relish the ideal of having Revis in a Buc uniform, I’ll be damned if I would be swindled by some 2 bit carpetbag holier than thou New Yorker.

    No offence any N.Y. Bucs …. 🙂

  35. adam from ny Says:

yeah you guys are wrong…do the revis deal, but make them throw in tebow…thats whats gonna happen…the glazers are smart business men…if they get tebow he will offset the cost for paying revis…ohhh the money they will make off tebow!!…i see a mega deal happening where we get both revis and tebow….orlovsky got cut…i see it happening..dom is just hardballing not to give up to much…but truth be told, this isn’t up to dominik at all…this trade for revis has to be glazer approved..so really dom is just the negotiator, but the glazers are making the trade or not…adam from ny

  36. Jonny 3.3 Says:

@Buccaneer Bonzai: I too actually think Tebow may not be a bad back up QB if his only job was to win games when starter goes down. But backup QB’s duties extend beyond that. First, he has to emulate starting QB in the same offensive system to provide practice to back up WRs and against back up defenders so that they are all prepared well. Tebow can’t do that. In fact that was his biggest problem in NY or DEN, he was a pathetic practice QB.

His other job is to enter the game and run the offense the same way it was being run by the starter. Because any significant deviation from it will lead to miscommunications, blown O-line protection schemes etc. Tebow again can’t do that and be productive. He needs an offense designed around him to succeed and teams cannot spend a lot on time on such a guy who at best plays a notch better than average.

I have not yet discussed how much of a distraction he can be.

  37. BuccaneerBonzai Says:

Jonny 3.3, I never really looked at it like that. Great point!

So…we would need a pocket passer who is mobile enough for play action, right? Landry Jones in the 4th gets my vote then.

  38. scubog Says:

In my opinion Dominik being willing to take Tebow off of Idzik’s hands would reduce the compensation for Revis. It sure wouldn’t be sweetening the pot.

  39. SirustheVirus Says:

John Idzik is trying to bully the Glazers. He knows them and he knows that they will give up what he wants to get a player they want. It’s like K.Johnson trade all over again, but Dom isn’t having it. Doms playing hard ball. They know the Jets will have to trade him. I don’t see why the Jets didn’t take the 1st & 3rd next year(if that was even really offered). They could easily traded back in this years 1st round with both those picks. I’m starting to feel like this is just media attention and this deals going to happen after the draft.

  40. tampabaybucfan Says:

With every tick of the clock, our position gets stronger. We don’t need Revis as bad as the Jets need to get rid of him.
If we want, we can pick up CBs with 2 out of our first 3 picks. Also, when some of these teams try to clear caps space for rookies, there will be other CBs on the market & they will be cheap.
    Relax….we will have our CBs…..
As for Tebo…..why all the excitement about a number 2 QB and that is exactly what he would be…..permanently!!!

  41. BrianDorry55 Says:

So supposedly we’re willing to give him $15 million a season…which is already completely ridiculous…no way you can afford to give up a first round pick too.

  42. Brian Says:

    @tampabaybucfan

Because Tebow will bring fans and media coverage to the bucs.$$$$$$

  43. mpmalloy Says:

#13 Pick >>> The Angry Revis

    That is all…carry on

  44. mpmalloy Says:

Would you have traded Dougie for Revis?
    Hell no!
Would you have traded McTwitter for Revis?
    Hell no!
I wouldn’t even have traded Freeman for Revis.

A single cornerback doesn’t make or break a team.

    Stand firm!
No 1st rounder for Grumpy Revis!!!

    Say it with me!…

  45. SeanyMac in SC Says:

I’m not saying we should get Tebow, but he does have more playoff wins than Josh. What does that say about the Bucs?

I think Tebow was successful under Urban Meyer becasue of the system they ran in G-ville. No NFL team would do that sort of system. Just can’t be done.

I can’t wait for the draft to get here and all this trade uncertainty to settle out.

  46. Mitch Says:

@ sunny good point.. Guess it could go both ways! I just wonder, since Dominik and idzik worked together here in Tampa, why it’s so hard to get a deal done.. Hell maybe that is the reason! Haha

  47. PRBucFan Says:

    He’ll be a Buc.

  48. Ryan Says:

He will get traded this year or idzic is gun get fired he was told to trade revis

  49. Roscoe The Pirate Says:

Hang On, how can we have our cake and eat it too?

    We Wait.

Revis has one year left on his contract. Who else will be able to afford his asking price this time next year? We wait, pick up Revis next year after seeing his rehab/comeback, pay him accordingly (if he has no significant comeback troubles) and keep all our first round picks!

    A No-Brainer really.

  50. Jerry Says:

I’ll remember what all you fans are saying after our first round pick busts. I dont want to hear any complaints.

Dominik does not exactly have a stellar drafting history.

  51. TopDoggie Says:

This massive cap space everyone keeps talking about will dissapear as soon as the contracts expire of a few of our key players. Joe did you not point this out awhile back?
