The David Walker Snap Count And His Pass Rush Win-Rate

October 29th, 2026

Tribal drum beats.

As much as Joe likes David Walker, Joe gets the vibe that the following may be the kiss of death.

Walker burst onto the NFL scene this year, his first healthy season. And he’s making Bucs AC/DC-loving general manager Jason Licht look smart as hell, not just because he is a fourth-round pick, but because he is dominating.

Licht bragged up Walker to whomever would listen this past offseason, so much so he was politely told to pipe down about Walker when Licht appeared on “Wakeup Barstool,” seen weekdays on FS1. The show’s national scope feared Walker chatter could chase away its audience, which might otherwise click to the “Today” show to watch Giada De Laurentiis and her cleavage boil pasta.

So far Walker has four sacks through seven games despite scant snaps. But that may be changing.

Walker last week at Carolina — he only had a tackle for loss as an impact play — logged 53 percent of the defensive snaps. Only one other time had Walker reached 35 percent.

This drives Joe up a tree. The man is one of the better edge rushers in the game and there simply is no excuse for him to not play at least half the snaps — and the majority of passing downs.

So what’s the potential kiss of death? The PFF tribe still loves Walker. Per their weekly pass rush-win rates, Walker has the best pass rush win-rate in the NFL. Again.

Does that sound like a guy who should ride the pine? Absolutely not!

The only guy close in the PFF tribe’s pass rush win-rates is Aidan Hutchinson of Detroit. Does anyone think Bowles’ close friend Lions coach Dan Campbell would be stupid enough to keep a healthy Hutchinson on the field regularly. Hell no!

Joe cannot whine too much. The Bucs have exploded for 10 sacks in the past two games and have terrorized opposing quarterbacks. This must be what it feels like to sleep with Kate Upton.

Imagine how ferocious the pass rush would be if Bowles allowed Walker to play and be unleashed?

If Joe thinks that is what a ride in the sack with Kate Upton feels like, you might want to head to Vegas and schedule an appointment with a working lady of your choosing to sort you out.

Bowles is a defensive mastermind and knows far better than you how to use his players in effective ways.

That’s why the Glazers are going to run it back again with Todd and Jason.

A culture like the 4-12 in the last 16 games is far too superior to give up on.

    relax joe lol…

Walkers production has seemed to spark the DLine…YaYa finally woke up…AQM has been playing solid all season imo…Bain and CK94 are starting to find their groove…

    everyone has raised their game

he’ll get more snaps as the season goes on….remember he’s learning

    GO BUCS!!!

  3. Beeej Says:

Do you see us re-signing Diaby after the season?

  4. SB~LV 🏈 Says:

Going to need him against the Falcons playing against the prototype NFL Quarterback.
If the Bucs draft in the top 10 they need to grab a quarterback so that after 2027 we can move on from Baker and possibly get some draft picks in a trade for Baker.
Baker doesn’t have the release and velocity of the direction the passing game is moving to

  5. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

I think they’re saving him. Maybe they are still nervous about an injury…or maybe there’s something we don’t know happening in the background?

To call him the best is a sretch at this point though.

  6. Itzok Says:

Kate Upton was smoking in her prime. Do an article on her with photos. Break up the doom with bowles ruining this team.

  7. Hodad Says:

53 % of the snaps on defense doesn’t sound like riding the pine to me. Give us a percentage of how much you think he should play Joe?

  8. Warren Brooks Lynch Says:

So now David Walker is on Aidan Hutchinsons’ level? 7 games into his career?

  9. Coconut Doughnut Says:

I wonder if the guy in this picture reads JBF

  10. Beeej Says:

    Lol

Joe … ‘Imagine how ferocious the pass rush would be if Bowles allowed Walker to play and be unleashed?’

I agree with Hodad … ’53 % of the snaps on defense doesn’t sound like riding the pine to me.’ As a matter of fact, seems to me that David Walker performed a LOT better when he was getting FEWER def snaps. He had 5 solo tackles and 1 TFL (plus he was targeted twice with 2 completions and missed 1 tackle) against the Panthers in 30 def snaps (he’d only been averaging 16-17 def snaps in the games prior to that).

Vea, Kancey, Diaby & Muhammad all got fewer snaps in that Panthers game, and all 4 performed BETTER. Maybe keeping the big guys FRESH is helpful to their performance?

  12. Show Me Your TDs Says:

“Joe cannot whine too much.” I beg to differ.

  13. McBay Says:

Todd Bowles knows more than anyone else about defense and coaching. In fact he knows more about offense and special teams too. He is the head coach and coaches all three phases, and I will trust him to know what players to use when. Atlanta is a different team than Carolina, and whatever game plan Todd comes up with for them, it will be a great one, win or lose.

  14. Buccanstopit Says:

Some of you all hatin if Licht found a 4th round gem. He was killing it before he tore that knee up in offseason practices, hurt in camp. He has the Baker chipped shoulder from last year and the injury. Pessimism on this site is cancer.

  15. Buccanstopit Says:

Why to I keep going to moderation this morning with all the hacks on here? McBay lol

  16. Beeej Says:

Prior to Sunday the dude had 99 snaps in 6 games.

  17. ProffeserVonBrainStorm Says:

McBay for the W. Keep it coming!!! The Pom Pom squad hates your sarcasm.

  19. Earv911 Says:

A good OC will have his team ready to key on Walker, when he is in the game. He’s not a secret anymore. That will allow the other deadline to feast as a 10 chips from them to him. This is the exact quagmire we want the o line to be in.. Not knowing who to block. Everybody can make a play. Go Bucs

  20. Simple T Says:

How many snaps did Yaya play last game to get his 3 sacks ? 22 😳

More snaps doesn’t necessarily equate to more impact or sacks.
We have Yaya, Walker, AQM, Bain who all need snaps to develope.
This is just another example of ice cream eating Joe pretending to know more than the professionals and reaching to cast shade again.

  21. Joe Says:

More snaps doesn’t necessarily equate to more impact or sacks.

Of course not, but it sure as hell means more chances to have an impact and get sacks! Good grief. Don’t you want your best players to be on the field more? Surely you are not suggesting the Bucs are better off with SirVocea Dennis getting more snaps than Josiah Trotter?

We have Yaya, Walker, AQM, Bain who all need snaps to develope.

YaYa and AQM have been in the league how many years? Pretty sure if they are going to “develop” they would have by now.

This is just another example of ice cream eating Joe pretending to know more than the professionals and reaching to cast shade again.

Yes of course, these coaches have so many rings on their hands they can’t life their arms they know so much about championship football. How dare a Bucs fan ever question a move by a coach collecting a check! Be happy and content with the gruel you are served, peasant!

Talk about throwing shade, geez. smh

    Lol at admin/Joe
How many rings you got Joe ? How many coaching stints ? Head coach ? DC ? Any experience aside from watching the games like the rest of us ?
Nobody thinks coaching moves shouldn’t be questioned – some of us are just weary of the very obvious reaching to make Todd look suspect in every article.

Your bias is much clearer than the amount of snaps any specific player should get.
