Baker Mayfield Will Start; Luke Goedeke, Emeka Egbuka, Antoine Winfield Will Not

October 23rd, 2026

More starters out.

Anyone hear Baker Mayfield say he’s 100 percent healthy at his Wednesday news conference? Joe must have missed that. SMDH

Mayfield talked about his fancy new glove and how he’s been adjusting release points.

Mayfield will start Sunday at Carolina, Todd Bowles confirmed today. Starters ruled out of the game are Emeka Egbuka (concussion), Luke Goedeke (calf) and Antoine Winfield (rib).

Look for Justin Skule or Ben Chukwuma to start for Goedeke at right tackle.

Trade Mayfield and Godwin to the Steelers for peanuts to clear cap space, and finish tanking.

Draft one of the stud QBs in the top 5 in next year’s draft.

Hire an offensive minded coach who is a QB whisperer to mentor new rookie QB AND Daniels. Daniels will have at least had experience.

We could’ve gotten Harbaugh last year, but we wouldn’t fire Licht (or Bowles obviously) because Harbaugh wanted to bring in his own GM.

Hindsight is 20/20, I know. But, we missed the boat on an offensive genius the year before last year with Liam Coen…

The Glazers have made some mistakes. It happens. But it seems to be happening a lot recently. Maybe not “a lot” of mistakes, but enough BIG mistakes here and there.

chip is getting bigger on bakers shoulder…..

lets hope Bakers moxy and toughness can produce a W….it sure wont be his arm lol

    GO BUCS!!!!!

  3. DoooshLaRue Says:

    No big loss with Goedeke.
He had one good year and is now competing with Durable Donnie for the King of Dumb Penalties Award.

  4. 813bucboi Says:

Honestly starting to feel bad for Todd lol

im not sure starting an injured baker behind an injured OL is a wise move….might be better to let JD10 play and give baker another week to heal lol

Panthers defense will be swiping at that glove the entire game…

    GO BUCS!!!!

  5. SB~LV 🏈 Says:

The best news is that it’s a 1 o’clock start!
    Let’s get this season over!

  6. can-we-get-rid-of-Licht-for-godsake? Says:

LB Caden Fordham and S JJ Roberts each have a single elevation – with Winfield and Rozeboom missing will they elevate them and wing it with Baker by not elevating Rypien ? either way it is gonna be a debacle

  7. can-we-get-rid-of-Licht-for-godsake? Says:

813bucboi – yes you are sagacious and perspicacious

  8. NegativeBucsFan Says:

    Prepare to have cheeks clapped.

  9. Winny Testaverde Says:

Three players whose stock is plummeting like Ira’s jean shorts at Mon’s Venus.

May be addition by subtraction at this point.

  10. Slacker Says:

Winfield isn’t missed, trade him. Robinsons offense doesn’t use wrs. Goedeke is mid at best. Keep stacking up the losses

  11. Capt.Tim Says:

    Why are we starting Mayfield.
    Stupid.
It’s a garbage team, in an a deserved downward spiral.
Mayfield will win a few games by himself.
And all it Will accomplish is knocking us from the 3rd draft pick, to the 8th draft pick.

This is a bad team. Bad GM. Bad Coach. Both lines are bad.
Let it die,. Fire GM and Coaching staff.
Let The Rookie take the hits. Save our Franchise QB till we get a new Offensive Coordinator. Robinson- as is his history, just gets QBs hurt.

  12. OrlandoBucFan Says:

None of those players would have made much of a difference. Mayfield will no doubt try to play hero ball. Hopefully we’ll get to see more of Hurst. Watching the game on Sunday will not doubt be like watching a house on fire: captivating and sad at the same time.

  13. BakerFan Says:

These guys need to treat each week as a playoff game. All hands on deck, be ready to play. I am amazed with the lack of urgency on this team’s part. effing losers.

  14. Saskbucs Says:

How do you protect these people from themselves?

Bucs just can’t ever get out of their own way.

Baker should not be starting if not 100%. He was bad in this offense when he was 100%!

See how it looks Sunday but I imagine most of us think it’s gonna look ugly. If it does, just another feather in the cap of Uncle Todd. Refuses to sit anyone down on the bench. Injuries and production be damned!

  15. adam from ny Says:

so i’m guessing this means alstott up the gut ll day…

oops, i mean bucky up the gut all day…

sounds like a great re-worked game plan by the geniuses behind the genius

  17. ChiBuc Says:

So AWJ has missed 18 and counting games in his six year career to Dean missing 20 in his 7 yr career. Does AWJ still get a pass? Trade the midget before he plays some more and teams realize he is a sandbagger

  18. ChiBuc Says:

Guess its time for Goedeke’s annual month long vacation as well. Glass eater, pfft. Glass man👍🏼

  19. jimmy Says:

time for godwin to get some additional targets and a couple of hundred yards.

  20. adam from ny Says:

yeah really they should let tom thumb sit one more week and play whalen jalon…

    no point really…

except for it sort of covers their asses in pressers with excuses if they lose yet another one…

“well baker was readjusting this week”

‘good he was on the field re-acclimating, but next week he will be more in the flow”

“the guys were getting used to him being the guy after settling in with jalon for a bit”

a whole sh!t show of excuses can be added with a baker return in a loss actually…

“it was just good to have baker back, by next week the offense will be back to normal”

“we didn’t want him to do too much out there, but protect his thumb”
(a perfect bowles type podium mutter…yes it has gotten to the point of almost a monotone mutter at the ole podium)

“baker woke on the wrong side of the bed so he was off, next weeek will make sure he sleeps in a cozy cot in the boiler room under the stadium”

“baker woke up from a bad dream thinking he was tom thumb, next week the real baker will make an appearance”

baker was tentative due to injury, next week bullets will fly”

    lol

endless crap can be fed to everyone with a baker floppature in carolina…

so it’s actually safer, abuse wise, to play baker…go figure

  21. StormyInFl Says:

Mayfield shouldn’t be starting, either. Not 100% and with one of those two tomato cans at RT, let the UDFA get killed.

Trading Mayfield will HURT the cap. Not help it. I don’t know why folks think trading him away will somehow help the cap.

  23. buc4evr Says:

EE is a huge disappointment as is Hurst. Too bad Jason the hypemaster didn’t bring Shep back. That guy was reliable on 3rd down. EE and Hurst are clowns, especially after last week. Hurst dropped an easy 3rd down pass that would have put the game away. total bum.

AW, not even sure what he has done this year. I don’t even see him in games. Like he disappears on the field?

Godeke is ok 80% of the time, but the other 20% he seems to miss blocks. Guess he is on his annual vacation?

  24. ProffeserVonBrainStorm Says:

Get ready for the dancing $165 million dollar midget as QB1 for the Yucs.

It will be entertaining at least to lose in new and inventive ways.

Without a true WR1 and an OC not interested in passing past the line of scrimmage we can’t expect to win this game.

Baker is never going to lead this team to a SB appearance.

I’m not convinced they’re going to fire Bowles either. They seem to enjoy losing.

  25. Simple T Says:

On the positive side maybe the ball gets spread around a little with EE out.
He seems like he’s been 1st read and the obvious target on 75% of pass plays for a year and a half.

  26. Marine Buc Says:

    @ Dooosh

“how many times are the glazers going to allow Licht to screw up the cap is the real question….

took a few years to get from under the mess with Brady(which paid off) but now we’re right back in cap hell”

    You nailed it brother.

Goedonkey has had one solid season.

He is just one of many re-signed Licht draft picks who are among the most over-paid and underperforming players in the NFL.

    – ZM
    – AWJ
    – Goedonkey
    – Baker the fullback
    – Godwin
    – Otton
    – Vea
    – Wirfs? (do I dare say that Wirfs is under-performing?)

All are overpaid and are under-performing…

What a total waste of resources.

  27. MadMax Says:

Just replace one word to this song…. “The heat is on” by Glenn Frey….looking like a “TANK” blowing this b!ch uP!!!!!!

  28. Marine Buc Says:

    And – YES – I know…

Bu bu bu but Baker ain’t a JL draft pick… Oh-oh-oh my Mr. marine….

Duh – but he just gave that a-hole $165M large.

    Want to splice hairs tardos?

  29. Kayla Says:

“Marine Buc Says: Goedonkey” 100% you would NEVER say that to his face. I don’t care if you were a Marine or whatever. My uncle was REAL Marine and he always shows other hard working real men respect.
