Carolina Contest May Look Like A Worthless Preseason Game

October 22nd, 2026

Down with the “illness.”

Brace yourselves, Bucs fans. When you tune to the Bucs game at Carolina on Sunday, you may think you are watching something other than an NFL regular season game.

Flashbacks to an August worthless preseason game might come. Why? Because several key starters are ailing and did not practice today for the 1-5 Bucs.

Emeka Egbuka and Luke Goedeke did not practice. Egbuka is in concussion protocol. Goedeke has a calf issue.

Additionally, Bucky Irving is still under the weather suffering from the ever-popular “illness,” and was limited today. So the Bucs could be down three key starters for Sunday.

Chris Godwin also did not practice but his excuse was labeled “rest” by the Bucs. Joe can’t blame Godwin. We all need a break from this team, don’t we?

On defense, linebacker Christian Rozeboom missed his second straight practice with a bum finger.

Zyon McCollum (illness) and A’Shawn Robinson (rest) were limited in practice today.

Why is Joe starting to have flashbacks to last year and the offensive line trainwreck in 2025 with Goedeke missing time? Then again, the Bucs had a winning record this time last year.

Now with a healthy offensive line, this team stinks out loud. Go figure.

All good….but wish them well. Get better.

    #1 coming right up!

  2. Warren Brooks Lynch Says:

Idk man, we’re going against the best performing QB in the NFC South and the #4 offense in terms of points generated in Carolina. Our defense matches up well with them imo, always do but can our offense play safe and actually score, that’s the question this week.

  3. Hodad Says:

What did Godwin do that he needs rest? Missing practice because of a boo boo on his finger? No wonder this is a 1-5 team. Soft like their coach.

  4. Cleanhouse Says:

There’s a mathematical way for us to be in first place within 3 weeks.

  5. Darin Says:

They’ve all looked like worthless preseason games.

  6. Mike Johnson Says:

Thanks joe for prepping us for the A.. Whippin we are about to receive. AMEN.

  7. Stpetematt Says:

    Will Mayfield Play?

  8. jw94 Says:

Honestly at this point. I’m going we just lose out. We have a few solid players on this defense that don’t always get pit in a scheme to succeed. The offense has nobody beside Irving. We need a top five pick. And the next Mike Evans on this team. Baker needs somebody. And by god fix the o line. Get the killer WR and just stack Lineman in the draft and FA. Idc who coaches this team. I don’t need a big name. I just need the right name. Bowles is a wonderful DC. He is in over his head as HC.

  9. AquaBum Says:

What football team throws a season for draft picks?

  10. Alvin Scissors Harper Says:

Whether or not Mayfield plays, it won’t make any difference in the bottom line outcome. We will not win this game under any circumstances. Two teams going in opposite directions. Panthers UP, Bucs circling the drain and being flushed down the Bowles.

  11. SkunkApe Says:

Our regular season games are worthless until Todd is given the heave-ho.

We should lose. There is no point in winning any more games until 2027. Stick a fork in ‘em.

I feel bad for the players.

  12. MadMax Says:

Not throwing it Aqua……we are who we are

  13. ModHairKen Says:

Under Bowles, every season has a moment where the wheels come off.

Is it this week? Do they lose by 20 or 30 points on the road?

    1-6 sure seems likely.

  14. TheBucsAnthem Says:

This team is cooked 🍳 for 2026!!!

  15. ProffeserVonBrainStorm Says:

From a scoreboard standpoint we are losing, but according to Bowels we win in every other category.

The silence coming from OBP verifies they are happy with the culture of Todd.

Built in excuses like the Baker injury and the OC being worse than a teenager in moms basement playing Madden on easy level will save his job again.

The defense is mid at best so that is a slight improvement. They’ll stick with Todd.

Virtue signaling liberals treasure feelings over the harsh reality of life.

  16. King of Citrus Park Says:

“ When you tune to the Bucs game at Carolina on Sunday”.
    ——————————

That is actually IF. Not when.

This division is so bad in 2 weeks the Bucs could be right back in it. And 3 weeks later they will be right back out of it.

  17. Flush Bowles Says:

I won’t be tuning into the game on Sunday. I’m done for this season. I guess I can thank Todd for freeing up 33 hours of my life over the remainder of this season.

  18. buc4evr Says:

wow, stick a fork in this team. They are done! At least Todd and Zac are toast. Hope for the same with Jason.

  19. Jack Burton Mercer Says:

Winning at life, professor. Winning at life.

  20. Marky mark Says:

I have never understood so called fans that want to lose out. The draftv is a crapshoot at best. In Europe you get relegated v to the minors so losing on purpose is not an option.

  21. Jmarkbuc Says:

    MHK

At 1-5 You think the wheels are coming farther off?

    We’re already up on blocks.

  22. Hodad Says:

Fans want Bowles gone. If that means losing out, so be it.

  23. can-we-get-rid-of-Licht-now-PLEASE? Says:

we’ll see how the injury report looks tomorrow – I am guessing that there will be only a few players ruled OUT – all the others will probably play or at least be eligible – the usual suspects that are inactive every week will probably be inactive this week too

  24. Erik with Unique Modern Art Says:

The illness that Egbuka is suffering from is a major case of the Dropsies.

And Idk if there is a cure for him, unfortunately.

  25. Capt.Tim Says:

“Now, with a healthy offensive line, this team stinks.”

Yup. A healthy line. With a really bad guard. A guard who is still lame from his injury a year ago. And a horrible Center, who isn’t a center. He’s a Tackle. Could be a great guard. Nope, we keep making him be a horrible center.
Licht and Bowles both have planted their flags on that hill, and they both will be buried on it.

Who ever thought this line would be a “Team Strength”? Quite a few.
Not me. I still worried my 5-12 prediction will make me look bad.

I just hope they aren’t stupid enough to play Mayfield.
This line already got his thumb so badly dislocated, that it tore the skin and required stitches! OUCH!
If they line him up behind the 3 stooges again- He’ll end up badly hurt.
And they goes our most valuable assesst to the new coach.
Injured in a game a sane team doesn’t want to win.
    Injured for nothing.

The rooks gig is up. He doesn’t have the arm strength an NFL QB has to have.
Can’t throw to the sidelines. Too bad.
But let him get some experience while he’s here. Might as well.
But don’t waste Mayfield in a lame duck season.

  26. SkunkApe Says:

Well here we go, Marky. Why is losing out desirable

    1. Ensure Bowles is replaced.

    2. Excuse to unload highly paid underperformers for extra draft capital.

    3. Higher draft slot in each round, especially round 1, where you can draft perhaps a generational talent with a top 5 pick. You can say the draft is a crapshoot, but there’s no doubt that drafting higher gives you a better chance.

    4. Higher 1st round pick and more picks overall might be an attractive proposition to a prospective new head coach… and believe me, we’re going to need to put together an attractive situation to attract someone good. Right now, I’m not sure Mayfield’s stock is very high, and with his contract, some coaches might view him as a reason to pass on the job. We need to make sure to get a real coach this time. Not some has been without any other options.

So, there you have it. The season is done, there is nothing to play for, so please telling me where’s the benefit in winning?

  27. SkunkApe Says:

Also, this isn’t English football. You don’t get relegated if you suck.

To say losing “on purpose” isn’t an option. To be clear, this coaching staff isn’t going to lose on purpose. This is their livelihood, they’ll always try to win. The front office however has a responsibility to the future, and the best thing for our future is…

    FIRE SALE NOW 🔥🔥🔥

  28. SoCalBucsFan79 Says:

Back to some actual game-related analysis: Goedeke’s calf injury is probably most concerning if Baker is able to be under center on Sunday. If Goedeke can’t go, do they just plug in Skule at RT (or Chukwuma) or shuffle the line like last year, possibly flip Wirfs back to RT, Barton to LT, Bredeson to C and give either Haggard or Schrauth the start at LG? If Egbuka doesn’t clear the concussion protocol, then is Sills healthy enough to be activated from DFR. The illness diagnosis for the other players also seem to be subsiding as at least Bucky and Zyon were upgraded to limited, and Kancey upgraded from limited to full. Winfield has back-to-back practices with a limited designation, if he manages full participation by Friday, will he be ready for Sunday? Ifeatu at least earned the right to stay in the safety rotation.

  29. SkunkApe Says:

Who cares about game analysis. It’s a worthless lame duck game that we’ll probably lose and should cheer for them to lose if we care about the future. There is nothing to play for.

  30. Steve V Says:

Im looking at a playoff game! Sorry, Go Bucs!

  31. OrlandoBucFan Says:

Sounds like the players are already starting to make business decisions. Might as well rest Godwin so he doesn’t get “really” injured before the trade deadline.

  32. Beeej Says:

I could swear I heard Rozeboom was put on IR

  33. Yeahmetoo Says:

They arent throwing games to get a better draft pick. They
Just suck. Plain and simple. No accountability no intensity.
The past 4 or 5 drafts have produced bucky Irvin, Trotter,
And tykee Smith. The rest have been busts or near busts.
Couple that with bad contracts on Winfield, baker, vita,
And godwin. Its an ugly situation with no easy answers
Other then trade for picks and trade down for more picks.
Get a strong offensive minded coach a solid DC and start
Putting a winning mentality back to one buc.

  34. exBrowns02 Says:

    Beeej: That’s what I read.

    Otherwise:

The rest of you crybabies that aren’t going to watch the game — can’t take adversity? You expect the moon, the sun and the stars from your players, but you can’t even bring your loyalty to the team? Shameful!

Let’s see if Captain White Glove has gained enough from his first career in-season vacation to lift his team and himself.

    Go Bucs!!

  35. Jmarkbuc Says:

    Rozeboom IR with a finger.

Licht sure knows how to pick em

  36. Firethecannonsbt Says:

J mark are you slow? Ppl get hurt. You’re pathetic lol

  37. McBay Says:

The team is progressing nicely. It does not stink out loud. Wins are on,y one of many measures to determine the quality of a team. This team gets straight A in every other category. There are a lot of categories. So the Bucs get an A, and fans should enjoy what we are seeing every week.

  38. Not Says:

    LOL, who cares

  39. JimBobBuc Says:

Joe: “Additionally, Bucky Irving is still under the weather suffering from the ever-popular “illness,” and was limited today.”

This is either a horribly worded statement or a disgusting attack on Bucky. Just two games ago, it was Bucky’s play and energy that won the Dallas game. Joe, you seem to be implying that Bucky has an “illness” rather than being sick. Bucky doesn’t deserve this.

Additionally, Joe said “Chris Godwin also did not practice but his excuse was labeled “rest” by the Bucs.”

So Godwin used “his excuse” to avoid practice? Or was it the Bucs saying this? Or was it a typical rest day for a veteran? Joe says this was Godwins “excuse”, really? Godwin has always been a fighter and given 100% to this team.

I hope the Joes can edit each other’s words before publication and consider what they know and don’t know before they write junk that can be misinterpreted

  40. can-we-get-rid-of-Licht-now-PLEASE? Says:

Ok here comes what Ronde Barber calls “loyalty issues” – David Sills is activated and Rozeboom goes on IR – if Egbuka really is hurt then the team has big issues that Sills won’t solve – but if Egbuka ISN’T really hurt then there is no problem to solve either way – the only reason Sills is on the team is because Robinson likes him – just like Sterling Shepard and Mayfield, which actually made more sense –
I just can’t see why after 6 games Sills is any kind of answer

  41. McBay Says:

Todd has all the answers .

Trust the man who won us a Super Bowl.

  42. Smoke Porterhouse Says:

What kind tool would say the Bucs are still in the playoff hunt? Do you know who the HC is? You expect some sort of winning streak from a loser HC? Get real.

  43. SkunkApe Says:

This team is done. Can Joe start researching and begin posting about head coaching candidates for 2027? That’s really the main thing I wanna know about at this point. I know, I said researching.

  44. Bucscoott Says:

We won’t throw to a wr. If baker is back anyway.

  45. McBay Says:

Preseason is great. And the Bucs won the preseason. Watch for the first of many Bucs victories in a row against Carolina on Sunday.

  46. SkunkApe Says:

McBay, just turn it off. It’s getting old.

  47. Bucs are Cooked Says:

So you are telling me we will still suck? SHOCKER

When are people going to learn 90 % of these lists are fabrication. Oh their injured or sick but then on game day guess who’s on the field. Generally only the seriously injured don’t show up.

  52. Bucs are Cooked Says:

It doesn’t matter. We suck like a Dyson from 2015
