It was a throw-away line that should serve as an alarming keeper at Buc headquarters.
Are you listening, Glazer family?
In the aftermath of Pittsburgh’s comeback victory Sunday, Aaron Rodgers took the occasion to rip the field conditions at Raymond James Stadium, suggesting it was a hotbed for injuries. Those remarks made national news. But the future Hall of Fame quarterback didn’t stop there. No siree.
Rodgers, who has been known to say kookie things, then unleashed a potshot at the reeling franchise he just vanquished.
“To win our first road game, to beat a team we should have beat,” Rodgers said. “There’s no two ways around it, you’ve got to beat teams like that if you want to get to where we want to get to.”
Those 39 words, unscripted and unprovoked, should shake the windows and rattle the walls at One Buc Place.
Yes, the times they are a-changin.’

Two members of Team Glazer.
It’s clear from his remarks that Rodgers views the Bucs as mere patsies in the hierarchy of the NFL’s 32 teams. The numbers strikingly bear him out.
Todd Bowles doesn’t want to talk about the 2025 collapse that ushered Mike Evans out the door and prompted Lavonte David’s retirement. But this current 1-5 start doen’t exist in a vacuum. Bill Parcells once famously said, “You are what your record says you are.”
If that’s true, the Bucs have been lightweights since the middle of last season.
One day, in a distant galaxy, we may know what happened to the Bucs during the 2025 bye week. They had just trampled the Saints 23-3 on the road, forcing four turnovers to improve to 6-2. Since then, garbage.
Tampa Bay’s 3-12 mark since the middle of last season evidently gives Rodgers all the evidence he needs to label the Bucs as pushovers. No team in the league has fewer wins in its last 15 games. That includes bottom feeders like the Titans, Cardinals, Dolphins and Colts.
The three Buc wins in that span have come by a combined margin of only 13 points. This a long-term meltdown that shows no signs of abatement. Tampa Bay had a chance to build some momentum in Week 6. If the Bucs had sent the Steelers home as losers, they would have had an opportunity to make the NFC South race interesting heading into Charlotte.
Instead, the Bucs own the NFC’s worst record as they look up from the division basement. They’ve dropped four consecutive home games for the first time since 2016 — when the franchise was still in the throes of a 12-year playoff drought.
During Tampa Bay’s glory years, nobody looked down at the Bucs the way Rodgers just revealed. Nobody looked at this franchise as a soft touch. Those Buc teams were feared and respected.
Buc fans should be thankful to Rodgers for pointing out the obvious. This team doesn’t scare anyone … except its loyal supporters. Rodgers was just speaking his truth about the quality of Pittsburgh’s opposition in Tampa.
In his 22nd pro season, the four-time league MVP figures he has the right to speak his mind. He didn’t intend to disrespect the Bucs — but that’s exactly what he did.
In his mind, Rodgers was simply stating the obvious.
When you win three times in a 15-game span, you’re not going to be taken seriously on the NFL landscape. Ownership should fear this franchise has become irrelevant. This isn’t a 1-5 issue. It’s bigger than that.
Heed the harsh words of Mr. Rodgers at your own peril. He just held up a mirror for all to see at One Buc Place.
It’s cracked.

Do the Glazers read Ira’s columns?
October 22nd, 2026 at 1:38 pm
Todd has the Glazers hypnotized. You are e getting sleepy…very sleepy. lol
October 22nd, 2026 at 1:38 pm
He’s only speaking the truth. You could see the cracks forming for the past few years though, as consistent play, and the fire, attitude, and dominance has been missing for some time. Last season’s 6-2 start was basically smoke & mirrors too though, four of the first 5 wins were only won with scores within the last minute of game, with 3 winning by a FG on the last play.
October 22nd, 2026 at 1:41 pm
I wonder what reporters Baker was talking about not
Missing in his presser. Certainly not Ira, but whom. Huh
October 22nd, 2026 at 1:43 pm
The Glazers & others need to focus less on the record itself & instead study the lack of attitude, consistency & focus the team has shown on Sundays ever since todd took over, even back to Brady’s last season. The team hasn’t had a confidence or edge to it since BA’s last year.

Fire Robinson at the bye week and then the rest of the coaching staff at the end of the year. Embrace the tank.
October 22nd, 2026 at 1:56 pm
The Glazers are to busy laughing in rich to even care.
October 22nd, 2026 at 1:57 pm
The Bucs beat the Seahawks and Texans in very tough, physical games that I remember, and won four more games despite tons of injuries. I don’t think it was smoke and mirrors. The total collapse since the break, when they started getting healthy, has been bizarre.
October 22nd, 2026 at 2:07 pm
something broke in the bye last year and Richard Sherman knows what it is … maybe someday he’ll tell us
October 22nd, 2026 at 2:09 pm
Flboy84 is correct, the bucs at the start of last season were barely winning but the local pen and mic club was more than happy to ignore the obvious (the bucs were in trouble) with calls for egbuka to be ROY and baker to be mvp as well as “oh grizz went to harvard he genius….no worries”….this website is LITTERED with non stop stories.
the last half of last year exposed the underlying mess starring the bucs as road kill for all opponents and todd bowles magic flying excuse-mobile punctuated with the blow up at the press conference after the collapse vs the falcons with 3-28gate.
the team was broken at the start of last year. some knew it, some ignored it.
the 3-28 defense is still in place, collapsing game after game including vs the steelers, and vs the cowboys. the nonsense narrative based on stats doesnt match reality which is that when teams want to march down todd bowles throat and win they pretty much do what they want.
October 22nd, 2026 at 2:15 pm
If you’re “embracing the tank”, why even bother firing Robinson. He’s our best option for continued losing. There is no good reason to try to win at this point. The draft is what this organization should be playing for. To that end, the fire sale should begin immediately. Diaby, AWJ, Kancey should be shipped to the highest bidder. Won’t be much, but it’ll be something. On offense, you might as well ship out Gainwell as he’s not even being used. Godwin deserves a chance to win, offer him the opportunity and maybe we can get a 4th rounder for him. Could we get anything for Mauch? He’ll be a free agent and has his play this year really warranted a raise?
It’s time to blow it all up.
October 22nd, 2026 at 2:16 pm
Here’s a question for Ira, Joes and everyone else…
If something “broke” during the bye week and Richard Sherman knows, how is it the Glazers don’t know? It was obviously so bad it tanked last season and is tanking this season. Even worse is if they know and allowed it. That’s pretty pathetic and explains the lack of accountability at the top.
I have a sign in my office and it reads – “You are what you tolerate.” That explains a lot about this franchise.
October 22nd, 2026 at 2:21 pm
Whatever happened after bye week last year is a mystery.
Team then fired Grizzard without any idea of how to replace him. In hindsight, behind Door #2 lay the booby prize (Zac Robinson). Why wasn’t offense coaching/leadership/success an urgent priority?
“By failing to prepare, you are preparing to fail.” – Benjamin Franklin
October 22nd, 2026 at 2:23 pm
Jimmy don’t forget there was talk of bowles being coach of the year as well 😂💀
October 22nd, 2026 at 2:27 pm
One: Has anyone clarified if the rest of the league thinks our field sucks? Roger’s saying the bucs are patsies, is kinda what he has to say about his team. I wouldn’t put too much stock into it. He praised the defense pretty heavily and they barely won, in OT. Also, an undrafted FA QB starting, I think you should like your chances against a team with that. By the way, who cares what Rogers thinks.
Having said all that. We don’t have a good enough coaching staff. I might say Bowles as a DC is doing well, but to be a head coach, you have to be able to manage the whole team, which is why he hasn’t been able to get any consistency when the OCs leave. I think the sad thing is he doesn’t seem to be able to learn the offensive side, enought to keep the consistency. We have Cohen’s playbook, Canale’s playbook. I know playcalling is key, but he should be able to help with that. These guys are not being put in position to win.

We’re 1-5. Our offense hasn’t clicked yet. But it can.
How? Baker Mayfield. That’s the only way our team turns this around.
The identity of our team is murky. In other words, we need one.
How about we get one? How about since we have one of the top gunslingers in the game (any idiot can read stats) that we become a dominant passing game?
there you have it – all we need is for Baker to have been eating spinach the last 3 weeks and he’ll beat up Bryce “Bluto” Young – sounds like KS has been skipping school with StPeteMatt over at Gibbs HS and they’ve been reading old Superman comics and old back issues of Playboy together

The Glazers have a group of advisors? Or is a group of “yes Men” (such as Licht).
I think Arians was supposed be some kind of advisor or consultant, but I cannot think of a single example of him helping the franchise since he relinquished his head coaching role. In fact, he single handedly sunk this franchose saddling it with Bowels.
October 22nd, 2026 at 2:47 pm
This goes deeper than just Bowles. If you take out the Brady years, you see how poor this organization is run from top to bottom. And please do not tell me Licht convinced Brady to come. Brady wanted to stay on the East Coast because of his kids. He also knew he (not Licht) could get Gronk to come out of his Florida retirement. Do you think Lenny comes here without Brady? We know Brady forced them to take AB. Look at the Super Bowl Box score. It was all Brady.
October 22nd, 2026 at 2:47 pm
Our defense has been better with our Nigerian FS.
Ifeatu Melifonwu’s wingspan is 78.5 inches (6 feet 6.5 inches)
Winfield is 5-9 and way overpaid.
Trade Winfield. Keep Melifonwu at FS.
I’ve always wanted a FS who is 6-3.
They are perfect at playing center field.
Tykee is 5-10. Parrish is 5-10.
We really need Melifonwu on the field.
Trade Winfield. Not Vea.
October 22nd, 2026 at 2:49 pm
We need Winfields money for an OLB.
Sacks are more important than safeties.
Izien also outplayed Winfield when he missed 10 games.
Winfield doesn’t do anything.
You can easily find an elite safety in the 2nd round. At 1/8 the price.

Seems like every year we have a 1-5 stretch, this year it just came at the beginning.
October 22nd, 2026 at 3:05 pm
“ This a long-term meltdown that shows no signs of abatement.”
The meltdown ends black Monday 2027.
Meltdown only happened because the supervisors (Bucs owners and brass) ignored the workers (fans) who have been saying for multiple years there was a faulty core. (Todd Bowles)
October 22nd, 2026 at 3:09 pm
Todd has now had a 1-5 stretch in EVERY season he’s been the Head Coach here. The Glazers did this, they gave a QB who finished 2-7 a RAISE and decided to keep a Head Coach who finished 2-7 in 2025.
What other franchise would do that? Not one serious about winning.
October 22nd, 2026 at 3:09 pm
We are bottom feeders at this time. I blame the Glazers. They stuck with a coach who had clearly lost the locker room, and this season is just a continuation of last year. This is literally a throw away year.
Ira, you have groaned about the Bucs never drafting a quarterback who earned a second contract. Well, you may want to start writing some articles about the Bucs chance (yet again) to draft a quarterback in the 1st round. The way the Bucs are playing and with the quality of quarterbacks projected to be in the next draft, the Bucs would be foolish to pass up on the opportunity to take a quarterback simply because they have Mayfield under contract. You like to use the word “investiture” a lot, which I understand. You need to start using the words “succession planning” because the Bucs are entering a transition period.
October 22nd, 2026 at 3:13 pm
Who, oh who?! Could have seen this collapse coming? How on earth did anyone miss the signs?
October 22nd, 2026 at 3:15 pm
Teacherman: Why not both? AWJ & Vea can both go. We might actually get something of value for AWJ though, which would be nice. IMO they are both checked out. Overpaid, got a ring, getting older, making business decisions. I think AWJ specifically hates the role bowles has him in. And this isn’t the first time for him either. Remember when coming off one of his best seasons, bowles moved him to, nickel corner? 😡 We have to lead the league at playing guys out of the position they played in college. Also, if fans and Hellen Keller can see that the defensive scheme is hot garbage, how do you think the players feel about it?
October 22nd, 2026 at 3:16 pm
Captain Obvious could’ve wrote that article. Most fans knew Bowles was a bust the minute he was handed the job. Going on year five Ira has to tell the Glazers to wakeup? Are you listening Glazers? They haven’t listened in five years. Pappa Glazer is rolling over!
October 22nd, 2026 at 3:21 pm
He might be right about this Bucs team at the present. I would be willing to bet that his Steelers may join the Bucs before the end of the season as far as being among the league’s bottom teams. At best the Steelers will be middle of the pack. A well coached team would have put the Steelers away and sent their faithful home crying their eyes out into their terrible towels!
October 22nd, 2026 at 3:21 pm

Will the new be good? Remains to be seen….but i think it will….
October 22nd, 2026 at 3:30 pm
I think Ira meant to say; FAIL to heed Mr Rodgers words at your own peril!
October 22nd, 2026 at 3:34 pm
“If we had won that game we would have had the chance to………”
No.
This is not a situation where beating an average steeler team would have meant anything more than that. We still would have walked into charlotte and lost that game. Because that’s what this team is.
You can’t think a team is so bad and then in the same breath talk about how they could build momentum with a meaningless win.
The roster is not devoid of talent. It lacks elite talent, that’s for sure, but it’s enough to hover around .500 or maybe even more in this division. But not with this guy. As implied above, this coach is in way over his head.
We are going to win a game or two again this season and do you know what that’ll mean? Nothing. Except the possibility to worsen the draft slot.
October 22nd, 2026 at 3:37 pm
At times, I have appreciated the way the Glazers handle their ownership role. Quietly…I don’t recall the last time I heard one of them speak, other than after the last time we won the Super Bowl. We see Jerry Jones, and he’s basically the polar opposite…and that’s not good either. Then again, I think that most NFL owners don’t make a habit of speaking out when things go bad. Same with Licht. The only time you hear from him is during one of the segments being interviewed by one of the Buccaneer controlled reporters, with those softball, non-invasive questions. I like to believe that they see and hear the comments and reactions by the fans and non-biased media. I’m certain they don’t like the revolving door we’ve had at OC any more than we do. But they can’t like what they have seen from Zac Robinson. Once the season is lost, which should be any week now, I hope they take action. Probably not, will wait until after the season. And who knows…the defense is playing ok…they may give Bowles another shot. Wouldn’t surprise me.
October 22nd, 2026 at 3:53 pm
Fire Bowles!
October 22nd, 2026 at 3:58 pm
Gotta ask… do the Glazers care?
Eyes wide open:
Stadium was full last Sunday – does it matter to the Glazers who buys the tickets as long as they’re sold?
Ownership could have forced Bowles to hire a DC. They didn’t.
Bowles “run first” philosophy is all over the offensive (which is) play calling. I would bet my last dollar that Bowles is not giving Zac free rein.
October 22nd, 2026 at 4:00 pm
Great article Ira. Its not just Bowles that should be put under the microscope, it’s Jason Licht too, the players. and of course, the owners need to look in the mirror too. It starts up top with ownership! If you can’t smell the stench after a run of 3-12, then you might as well just give up. What an embarrassment….like ridiculous.
Pull your heads out of your rear ends and start being real with yourselves.
October 22nd, 2026 at 4:03 pm
“No team in the league has fewer wins in its last 15 games. That includes bottom feeders like the Titans, Cardinals, Dolphins and Colts.”
Any other HC\DC would be fired immediately for the stated record above.
Todd gets a pass because of the Rooney rule and DEI policies.
The lone minority HC in the NFC gets a pass due to politics.
He could lose every game the remainder of his contract and never get fired.
October 22nd, 2026 at 4:04 pm
“A team THIS bad….”
YET, the last 12 games in a ROW, (9 of which were losses) we’re within 1 score of our opponent. Hard to figure
October 22nd, 2026 at 4:17 pm
We can debate Baker’s propensity for ‘hero ball’, but we’re likely 2-15 last year without it in the first half of the season.
October 22nd, 2026 at 4:46 pm
RC … ‘Has anyone clarified if the rest of the league thinks our field sucks? By the way, who cares what Rogers thinks.’
RayJay used to get top marks across the league for field condition, but not any more. The Tampa Bay Sports Authority runs the maintenance of the field & stadium, and they’re over-scheduling it during the Bucs’ season.
Biggest problem with the field happens when USF uses it to play a college game on Saturday, day before a Bucs’ home game. The field gets chewed up, then the maintenance staff only has probably 12-15 hours to get it in shape for the Sunday Bucs’ game (and that’s working through the night). Think about what has to go on in those 12-15 hours to repair the sod, change the logos, etc.
HOPEFULLY that problem goes away when USF gets its’ own stadium next year (theirs is supposed to be ready to play Louisville on Sep 4th).
October 22nd, 2026 at 4:50 pm
Watch Daddy Sling It … ‘We can debate Baker’s propensity for ‘hero ball’, but we’re likely 2-15 last year without it in the first half of the season.’
Interesting observation. And IF we had gone 2-15, several things would’ve happened:
1 – We’d have gotten a new HC and coaching staff for the 2026 season.
2 – Baker wouldn’t have gotten his 3-year gift from Santa Claus.
3 – We’d be looking at a much different team right now, one that might actually be capable of winning. Or not.
October 22nd, 2026 at 4:56 pm
I blame the GLAZERS first and Todd Bowles 2nd. Wouldn’t yo
u stay around if your employer let you after an Unsatisfacory evaluation for a few million. Hell, I would. This team sucks. I see 5 wins maybe. But fear not Tampa fans. All is not lost. How bout them Rays? GO RAYS!!!
October 22nd, 2026 at 4:57 pm
Rodgers could have also stated that it was a home game for the Steelers. Embrace the suck y’all. Toad is here through the end of the year, and maybe beyond. I sure hope not.
October 22nd, 2026 at 5:04 pm
Beej … ‘YET, the last 12 games in a ROW, (9 of which were losses) we’re within 1 score of our opponent. Hard to figure’.
THAT’S the thing that continues to blow my mind. And especially because in so many of those games, we had a chance to win them, but we blew it. Someitmes it was offensive miscues (INTs, fumbles, ran out of downs, penalties, etc). And sometimes it was a defense that coulldn’t shut down the opposing offense when that’s what was needed.
I know we’re basically a young, inexperienced team (on defense especially), but it keeps looking like everyone is constantly waiting for the OTHER GUY to make a big play, instead of making the big play themselves.
Losing that Steelers game came down to ONE bad play at 1:46 left in the 4th qtr with the score tied at 16-16 IMO. Bucs had the ball at the Tampa 37-yd line (2nd down) when Daniels threw that INT picked off by Dean and returned to the Tampa 3-yard line. That INT was abysmal, but it wasn’t just on Daniels; it was also on Egbuka because of some terrible route-running. Had he done what he SHOULD have done, that ball would’ve never been intercepted.
Good news was though that the Bucs’ defense held the Steelers for 3 downs, and then the Steelers kicked a FG from the 1-yard line to go ahead. Offense tied the score with a FG of our own to send the game to overtime. We won the coin toss, and Bowles unexplicably DEFERRED giving the Steelers the ball first in OT. our defense had been on the field all 4th qtr, so he sends them back out there to start OT. DUH!
October 22nd, 2026 at 5:33 pm
Well said, Sage!
October 22nd, 2026 at 5:41 pm
The Glazers are happy to fill the stands with the other teams fans. They have contempt for us fans. Consistent poor field condition speaks to the owners commitment to the players and the fans. This is a cash flow business only to the Glazers. The reaction by the Cowboys to loosing to us made the same statement as Rodgers words. The whole league knows we are a broken team and writes us in as a win when viewing the schedule.
October 22nd, 2026 at 6:13 pm
Nice article. I’m not a Rodgers fan, but he certainly offers an interesting take.
We instantly saw how Jerry Jones felt about losing. It’s less evident with Licht and the Glazers. If their organization reads this site, know that their choice to retain Bowles has cost them more than fan goodwill over the last two-thirds of the season. They may have to move the franchise to overcome their lost credibility.
October 22nd, 2026 at 7:18 pm
Dr..We’d be looking at a totally different team if they didnt turn the ball over..The defense has kept them in all games..
October 22nd, 2026 at 7:28 pm
Steve, fair point. Without the turnovers, we’d be looking at a completely different team. And without the losses, we’d be looking at a playoff contender! Unfortunately, the NFL insists on counting both.

I was saying and writing on here something similar last season. The fans saw this coming well prior to this point. Bucs are irrelevant now. The positive ora that was left over after the Brady years are now gone because of bad decisions by leadership over past few seasons. Bucs are the Yucs again.

Draft a QB in 1st round of next draft and trade away expensive vets and start over with a bunch of cap room with Charlie Weis Jr. as Head Coach in 2027. Just an idea.
October 22nd, 2026 at 8:40 pm
Do the Glazers even care? The way they have alllowed Bowles and his losing mentality to destroy this franchise makes me think that the Glazers are simply modern Culverhouses, they do not care about the fans or the tean’s record as long as they make coin. Embarrassing. I think this team could go 1-16 with Bowles and Robinson. I am not convinced that the Glazers would even fire Bowles after that, prove me wrong Glazers.

Look closely at the Bucs organizational chart. Darcie is chairman but listed second to co-chairman Bryan. ????
Don’t read too much into that. They rotate them every year. Joel Glazer is the point person. Notice he is always around when the big decisions are made. Joel Glazer shows up, Vea is signed. Joel Glazer calls Licht, Mayfield is signed. Owners meetings? Joel Glazer is there. Roger Goodell hands the Vince Lombardi Trophy to the ownership group? Goodell calls out Joel Glazer by first name and hands him the hardware. That’s all you need to know.

The key dysfunction appears to be the Bucs draft players that don’t fit what Bowles wants to do. Whatever the hell that is. Given the results, do you blame Licht?

“The key dysfunction appears to be the Bucs draft players that don’t fit what Bowles wants to do. Whatever the hell that is. Given the results, do you blame Licht?”
I don’t blame Licht. I blame the owners for not creating an institutional policy and direction or vision for the team to prevent such dysfunction. If there is disharmony between Jason and Todd or misunderstanding of team direction and yet that goes unrecognized or overlooked by the owners one can only assume indifference or ulterior motive.
It seems to me the coach/GM relationship should not be allowed to be adversarial.

The Glazers have decided to stay with Bowles since Coen left and since the collapse last year. They had two points in time to release Bowles. Now they are paying the price as income from tickets and merch will crater to nothing. Bowles will be encouraged to retire with dignity.
But what about Licht? Did Licht recommend that Bowles be retained after the 2024 and 2025 seasons? If he did, then Licht’s job is in question.

Joe, the thing that bugs me so much is that the owners are letting the team self-destruct and appear to be doing nothing about it.
That can’t be by accident. I hate to bring this up but my mind keeps returning to the gambling issue. Remember, Todd said it, “I had nothing to do with that.” It makes no sense whatsoever that Joel would say “Pay Vita” and “Pay Baker” on the hope that Todd would suddenly improve and/or change his ways. Those two contracts are a detriment to the team at this point. Too many things just don’t add up. David Walker is the perfect example.

Look, the owners are not football people. They are business people who own an NFL franchise. Their goal is to make money, a lot of money. That’s it. period.

It’s not. Bowles has a plan and the team is on it. Nothing matters as much as the process, the locker room, team unity, and the brilliant schemes. In time the players will excel. It just takes time. This might be the best Bucs season of the Bowles era.

But Jason Licht put together a team in 2019 so he should stay forever!!!!!

This franchise, its owners, the GM and the Head coach are a joke. They don’t know how to build a successful team.

Last year was the first playoff miss in a long time. Fans are so reactionary. The record isn’t important. People keep missing that point.

In 13 years of being on JBF….I’ve never seen a bigger fool than McBay.

In 5 years, Bowles has brought the Bucs a Super Bowl and 4 consecutive NFC South division crowns. In the 8 before Bowles got here the Bucs were not very good. Foolish is as foolish does,

So the key dysfunction is that Licht isn’t drafting players that Bowles wants? Did I read that correctly?
If so, that answers the question on whether or not Licht will be back. It seems he’s doing whatever he wants.
I could have sworn I read so many times about how Licht and Bowles were tied at the hip.
If the GM is drafting players the HC doesn’t want and the owners are bringing back the HC (after last seasons) I’d say that’s the most significant dysfunction.

There is no dysfunction. This team is competitive every week. Before Bowles arrived that was not the case. Be patient, appreciate the other things. There is elegance in those things.
It’s hard to win in the NFL.

1987, he’s simply a troll. He’s trolling with every comment that is positive and apologetic. It’s obvious.

Tell em Mcbay. Like the positivity. Even if they don’t it’s just football. There is a lot more to life than football.
