Jalon Daniels Talks More About His Be-Like-Baker Mindset
October 14th, 2026
“I’m the kid’s role model, Ira. What can I say?”
So Jalon Daniels noted on Monday how he is trying to be like Baker Mayfield to make players more comfortable around him.
Today, Joe asked Daniels to talk a little more about that phenomenon.
“For one, asking Bake whatever questions I have as far as operation, as far as how he does a certain cadence, how he comes into the huddle and is able to call a different play, how he’s viewing the game,” Daniels explained at his Wednesday news conference. “And obviously, when we’re going through film and having our protection meetings at the beginning of the week, asking him those questions as far as what he sees. And the more I’m able to try to pick his brain apart and be able to learn more from him, the more it’s helping me get prepared for a game. But the more it’s helping me for any opportunity that comes down the line as well.”
Daniels also noted how he’s all-in on Coach Mayfield and very appreciative of all his guidance.
Joe remains intrigued by how Daniels isn’t about guys adjusting to him as an undrafted rookie; he wants to make their lives smooth and consistent.

I hope the kid studies up, it would be amazing to watch a RUDFA gets an opportunity it up in the passing game. Hope he “outduels” Rodgers

It would be awesome if he went up to Rogers and asked for his autograph, saying “I’ve been watching you since the 4th grade!”

Before I attempt to read one word of the article… that headline scares me, BIG TIME!!!
What, miss the open guy?… ignore the open guy?… FUMBLE?!?!
NO, JD10, keep doing what you’re doing. At the rate you’re progressing, you’ll be the undisputed starter when Baker is gone. DON’T be like Baker. Don’t play with a chip on your shoulder, play with poise. If you do that, Tampa will be your oyster.

Smooth and consistent you say? Does this mean he’ll turn into Happy Feet 2.0?

Jeez-us! I already knew the corny weirdos would come out after reading that headline. New headline just in: Baker Mayfield will now be blamed, if the Bucs lose on Sunday.

BM is more of a HC than Bowles at this point. Glad to see he is coaching up JD.

I haven’t seen anything out of Baker since the win in Seattle that was worth emulating. But what is this kid supposed to think? Baker will retire with over $200M in earnings for a career of largely mediocre play.
