Todd Bowles: Success = Running

October 15th, 2026
Todd Bowles

Run to win.

This, when you look at the big picture, is probably smart.

Last week in Dallas, the Bucs pounded the Cowboys on the ground to the tune of 241 yards rushing. That will win most ballgames. Bucky Irving had 165 of those yards.

Asked yesterday if he hopes to build on that strong running attack in Dallas last week when the Bucs host the mighty Steelers on Sunday, Bowles said absolutely.

“Hopefully, yeah,” Bowles said. “That’s the plan.

“That’s the success formula for us, so if we can get that going every week, that helps everything else be easier.”

And as Joe noted, this is probably smart.

As much of a feel-good story that Jalon Daniels is, we’ve got to remember he is still a green-as-grass rookie. Sunday will be his third NFL start.

Joe doesn’t think it’s too wise to build a gameplan on Daniels airing out the ball 30-40 times.

Not facing Dallas, they should maybe plan on winning in the air. They’re not going to run for 200 yards again. Who cares, it’s just going to be another loss.

  2. Capt.Tim Says:

Daniels can only throw in the flat. He can’t read defenses.
Hes a Rookie. That’s normal. He’s thrown about 6 passes downfield. 2 intercepted
But I like the kid. He’s shown the right metal attitude to win.

Our Oline has sucked all year at Pass Blocking,
But they are pretty good at Run blocking. I’ve said this since training camp.

    So Run the Ball!
    That’s how we beat Dallas.
Keep the Ball out of Daniels hands, but it in Bucky Irving’s hand
    And Blitz Rodgers
That’s our only chance to beat Pittsburg

Todd knows by saying that, opponents are stacking the box and keying on Bucky, opening up those tremendous tight end screens . Look, maybe it won’t score a lot of points but it will preserve the calm. Maybe generate a first down or two. Go Bucs!

  4. Smoke Porterhouse Says:

Watch old Todd run Bucky into the ground, like he’s Earl Campbell or something.

PFF guys released an article like yesterday detailing the teams who’s O-lines surrendered the LOWEST PRESSURE RATE through the first 5 games…

You’ll never guess who has the lowest pressure rate…

OUR TAMPA BAY BUCCANEERS at 18.4% !!!!
    #1 in the freaken league!!!!!!

That backs up everything I’ve been saying about Mayfield this season.
This dude does NOT go thru his reads. He’s not getting the ball out to wide open receivers crossing in front of him. Video was showing this!!
He’s jittery as hell and he actually ran into a few of the sacks himself.

He is NOTHING like the 2024 Mayfield under Coen. What the hell happened to this guy???

I’m pulling Jaylon Daniels on because he seems to inspire the offense now as well as the whole team.

Baker needs to have a soul search to find that player that we used to cheer for.

Bucsfan1988: Are you sure you read that right? I think it’s more like Bucs defense has the lowest pressure rate.

  7. Joe Bob Pigskin Says:

All this Daniels hype is crazy.

  8. Trockefellergoodwin Says:

Running? Of course dumb Bowles said that since the last game that is ALMOST the only big moves the offense had and, so, since he was saying sacks don’t win games and a gr8 deal of bunk about sacks r selfish and only pat stats etc…….,,,.. he HAD 2 through the light on offense 4 real…

But, running is NOT a strong suit yet this year EXCEPT 4 the last game.

We NEED our qb1 BACK AND OFFENSIVE LINE HOLDING UP,

  9. Stpetematt Says:

Almost any qb can win when you rush for over 200 yards.

  10. Allen Lofton Says:

A running game strategy is a winning formula, however Bucky, as shifty as he is, is a small back by NFL standards and is questionable about staying healthy for the entire season. TUCKER is good but he’s not at the same level of Bucky. Robinson needs to be more creative in opening up running lanes for his running backs.
So far he has been just ok but better scheming is paramount for the Bus reach the playoffs.

    Smoke Porterhouse….

I am 100% on the article from PFF.
Just use google AI and it will pull up.
I did it again last nite.

Bucs offensive line is #1 in the NFL IN LOWEST PRESSURE RATE allowes for the QB….

  12. UGotRobbed Says:

How bout a game plan that takes advantage of an opponents weaknesses coach! You wouldn’t know anything about that though would ya coach! Not your style! Just do the same things that lose you game after game! Geez!

  13. Erik with Unique Modern Art Says:

Running SUCCESSFULLY is a good formula for winning.

Just merely attempting to run alot and not having successful runs, is a formula for losing.

This is a key distinction that people glaze over alot and just act like running attempts equal success.

  14. Bucsarg Says:

I’m hoping to see many two and three tight end sets with Egbuka and Godwin used as blockers. They both block and run the ball well. We have good to great blocking tight ends. Run the ball and run the clock. Let’s play some smash mouth. Dominate TOP and keep our defense fresh. Go bucs.
