Jalon Daniels Passing Chart Against Dallas
October 14th, 2026
QB Jalon Daniels gets rid of a pass surrounded by traffic in Dallas.
This really isn’t surprising to Joe, but Joe also hopes the more snaps Bucs quarterback Jalon Daniels sees, the more the offense will branch out.
As to be expected when an undrafted rookie quarterback makes his second start, Bucs offensive coordinator Zac Robinson ran a conservative offense Thursday in Dallas.
Then again, he squeezed down his offense for Baker Mayfield, too.
As you can see from the NextGen Stats graphic below, Daniels completed 19 of 25 pass attempts against Dallas. Of those 19 completions, eight were completed behind the line of scrimmage.
So in a sense, about half of Daniels’ attempts were glorified pitchouts.
Daniels only had three pass completions (six total attempts) targeting receivers over 10 yards downfield.
So yeah, Robinson really had a pop gun offense designed for Daniels. Unless you want to tell Joe that is Robinson’s normal offense.

The Cowboys allowed us to run for 241 yards on Thursday night.
Why let a rookie QB throw the ball downfield if you can run the ball down their throats?

The infamous coen line

Steelers will be ready for that this week. Will Zack?

Yes, I am afraid it is his normal offense. How does Cade Otten have more targets than Godwin (27 to 22). Love Cade, nice guy, but…
I’d like to see Emeka, Hurst, Bucky, Tez more involved in the pass game this week. I think we are going to need them.

“So yeah, Robinson really had a pop gun offense designed for Daniels. Unless you want to tell Joe that is Robinson’s normal offense”
It’s the same exact offense and that’s fine as long players are executing. It’s been a pop gun offense all year, difference between this game and most other games played this season is that we’ve generated more explosives run & pass than any other game this season. That’s an execution thing, not just X’s & O’s.

I saw some creative wrinkles in the offense, and Cade Otton has been getting involved in a good way. Of course, the offense takes a little bit of a hit, losing an alpha number one receiver..

What the f did you expect??
HES A ROOKIE.
With all Rookie QBs, you win in spite of them, not because of them.
How can all of you not know that?
Do you really think any rookie is gonna stroll on an NFL field, be able to read NFL defenses, and save the day?
lol.
You have to spoon feed rookies for a couple years, until they can handle the speed and complexity of the NFL.
Josh Allen, Trevor Lawrence, etc, etc
When you decide to start a Rookie, you are committing to spending 2-3 years watching him adjust. And the real b*tch of it all- is they may not adjust. You may just be wasting time.
I feel we should Trade Mayfield, Vea, Godwin, Mauch, and Gainwell.
They are ready to win now. This team is 2 years away.
The kid is special. Give Jaylon 2 years with Ebuka, Hurst, Sharpe.
Let’s see if he’s got the right stuff.
Either way, we won’t win for 2 years.
No reason getting an aging Mayfield beat up.
Let’s get assets that will grow up. Not grow old

Jalon has thrown the ball much better than Baker has. His timing and vision has been superior. I don’t know if Baker needs glasses or has just been in a slump but he couldn’t hit the broad side of a barn at 25 yards. Our receivers still like to drop passes they should be catching. C-otton excels at dropping passes. I truly believe the pass rush problems are 100% Todd Bowles and mental. He gets in these young guys’ with all kinds of BS that requires them to be thinking and practicing everything other than setting the edge or pinning their ears back and just going. They’re trying to watch too much and think too much about everything other than the quarterback. So when it’s time to just rush, make moves, properly run games they don’t know how because Todd Bowles’ galactic worm hole defense can’t be figured out by anyone including the defensive coaches. They have to tell their players “yeah whatever, I don’t know, only Todd knows. Just do the best you can and don’t make a mistake”. To say Todd Bowles can develop players is about like predicting the weather in Florida. It’s pouring rain on one side of his brain and it’s sunny on the other side. The best defensive play Bowles has is: it’s 3’rd and 6, CBs play 10-12 yards off receivers, DEs are in pass coverage 10-12 yards away, ILB’s are to watch the TE but not cover him, and SS & FS watch the play, smoke a cig, have a beer and just help tackle if it comes your way. It’s perfectly ok to give up a first down over and over and over. Just don’t give up a TD. Our goal here if too hold them to FGs on every possession possible and TDs??? well we don’t have an answer per se, you have to ask Todd Bowles about that formula. In closing Todd Bowles looks for the dumbest Coaches on the planet because it makes him look and feel smart. He should have retired when BA did.

Joe, the Bucs beat the Cowboys’ high powered shootout offense with 39 runs to 25 passes.
But, let’s add the 9 completions and 2 incompletions behind the line of scrimmage to the run total as what Joe call “glorified pitchouts.”
So, call it 50 runs and 14 passes. Great! Those glorified pitchouts add more variables to account for in the “run game” and make the time of possession ball control offense less predictable!
Joe, those 11 “glorified pitchouts” demonstrated Discipline! Hallelujah!!!
Analyze the long pass downfield to Tez Johnson!
As best I can judge it, very close to 2 seconds flat after the snap, Daniels had another glorified pitchout open to the running back Irving to the right at the numbers man-on-man vs a linebacker who was playing off seven yards.
Decision time!
If no one is open deep, execute the glorified pitchout and let Irving create one-on-one against the linebacker in the space cleared by the two wide receivers driving downfield.
But, seeing Johnson beat his man, Daniels took preferred option on the play – the shot downfield for the big gain. No hero ball! Discipline!
I love to watch Baker play inside the game plan. But, Joe, are you suggesting that Baker’s undisciplined hero ball has not been a factor in three of the Bucs losses this year?
If “glorified pitchouts” are the entire play, yeah, Joe, that sucks!
But, when those “glorified pitchouts” are an integral, disciplined part of a scheme that tries to create big plays, they are a high value bonus!
Run big play routes! Throw to the big play routes when they open On Time! Use the big play routes to clear space for dink and dunk opportunities when the big play does not open up On Time! This is a disciplined process that takes what is created and what is given!

Solid observation – if the Bucs win any games it will be due to the same formula.
#1 – solid defense
#2 – conservative offense that can run the ball
#3 – limiting turnovers on offense
#4 – causing turnovers on defense
#5 – one of the best FG kickers in the NFL
This is the basic formula and the Bucs will win games if they can follow it…
I agree…

The “SB” roster The “it”would it be the Rams or the Vikings??
October 14th, 2026 at 9:54 am
Eagles Texans??
October 14th, 2026 at 9:55 am
It was one game. It is a bit early to hand him the keys, people.
Capt Tim, trading those players would be sabotaging the team. It would also make the Bucs unattractive to the next coach, so we could lose out on a great hire as a result.
Unless he is a part of that decision.
October 14th, 2026 at 10:01 am
Complaining about a simplified offense? Ummmm…..hello! We won. Maybe run a simplified defense too. You know…..let the linemen rush and the DBs cover?
October 14th, 2026 at 10:12 am
The third and 21 conversion to Egbuka was a pass very few could make.
October 14th, 2026 at 10:26 am
The passes behind the line allow the OL to release down the field to block without a penalty. The problem is that the OL is terrible this year and not getting any blocks down the field. Bucky is the best RB in the NFL when there is terrible blocking and no hole.
October 14th, 2026 at 10:45 am
I like the kid better but passing wise he reminds me of a Shaun King 2.0
October 14th, 2026 at 11:18 am
The tape is out. Be very careful with the screens and sideline tosses JD/Zak! The Steelers will surely be ready for it. No pick sixes please.
Go Bucs!
October 14th, 2026 at 11:42 am
I know I’m repeating myself, but this is the same offense I ran in Pop Warner. 40 years ago.
Just saying.
October 14th, 2026 at 12:03 pm
the key is:
jalon has to manage jalon…
no speed talking…he’s gotta chill with that…
and that almost pick 6 vs dallas, was potentially disastrous at the end…
he had a couple crappy ints vs green bay…
so jalon must manage jalon…oh yeah and then he also has to manage the game
October 14th, 2026 at 12:11 pm
Looks better than Baker’s passing charts the 1st few weeks.
October 14th, 2026 at 12:14 pm
Big Mac attack.
No. The kid has tried about 14 passes down field.
2 of them were intercepted.
He has no idea what defense he is looking at. That’s why he is only throwing the ball in the flats.
How can you possibly have watched the game, and say something that rediculous?
Bonzi
The team is already sabotaged.
New Coaches don’t want aging, disgruntled Vets on a rebuilding team. Aging Vets don’t want to have to learn an entirely new system, on a rebuilding team.
They want to join a contender, and learn a new system from other vets.
Not waste their last years, expected to help a bunch of young kids.
New Coaches, with a rebuild ahead of them, LOVE lots of high draft picks and cap space. Young players are much more likely to buy into their system
If you think this is a team capable of competing right now, then don’t trade the Vets.
If you think this team needs a new Coach, GM, and new players to compete,
Then Why would you keep old guys?

WBL:

– – – – – – – – – – –
I don mean to correct you WBL, but the real difference is we played against the #32 defensive team in the NFL. That is why we “generated more explosives run & pass”
The Steelers will be a better litmus test.

“I don mean to correct you WBL, but the real difference is we played against the #32 defensive team in the NFL. That is why we “generated more explosives run & pass”
We had 14 explosive plays on offense going into that Dallas game. We finished that game generating 7 explosives on offense. Stating how bad Dallas’ defense is takes away from the realization that our offense was averaging 19 ppg and was also being booed on their home turf since wk 2.
So to say, you generated in 1 game half the explosives you did in 4 games leading up isn’t some whimsical, “yay we won” deal. It’s a real thing. Also the offense and defense complimented one another the best it has in a long time. We came out of the first half, scored 17 unanswered points which is the 3rd longest unmatched point tally we’ve had since 2023. If anything, Dallas stinking showed our guys how to win, doesn’t make the win any less valuable to me because there’s no need to split those hairs.
October 14th, 2026 at 3:19 pm
Hey Joe(s)
I’ve never corrected you before…but JD had 8 not 9 passes behind the LOS and 10 beyond. (One completion behind the LOS was a touchdown I missed. Joe’s right) That’s a lot of screens and quick outs.
He had 3 completions beyond 10 yards of which 2 were beyond 20 yards.
Of JD’s total attempts 6 or 1/4 of his passes were over ten yards.
Of those, 3 were over 20+ yards downfield.
The numbers say this is more Bowles playbook than Zach’s.

– – – – – – – –
Sorry, I wasn’t trying to split hairs. I completely agree with you that it does not make the win any less valuable. It was a huge win. A loss would have been catastrophic.
My point was more to the Steelers. I hope it showed our guys if they bring the effort and execute, they have a chance to win.

44444Start Jaylon Daniels and give BM one more week for healing. It will be a security circus cos tRump is showing up. tRump is no football fan. Hopefully, he’ll get bored and leave before the first half ends. I’ll have it on Bucs Radio. Go Bucs!!4444
