Alex Anzalone Credits Todd Bowles With Keeping Bucs Focused On Football

October 14th, 2026

Alex Anzalone celebrates his game-winning interception at Dallas.

The Bucs aren’t out of the woods, yet. But they’ve taken a step toward the clearing.

At 1-4, the Bucs are remarkably just one game out of first place in the NFC South landfill.

The division is living up to its name.

Bucs inside linebacker Alex Anzalone seemed to suggest his week that if not for the calming influence of Bucs coach Todd Bowles, the Bucs might be 0-5 and dudes would be planning for the holidays and whether they would be in the DR or Tulum on Jan. 12.

“I think that he just did a really good job this last week because you know there’s a lot of outside noise,” Anzalone said. “You can fall into that trap of listening to that poison and [it can] kind of bring you down.

“Or, like [you begin to think], ‘Hey man, maybe we really aren’t that good.’ But [Bowles] did a good job of just kind of changing the mindset of the team and truly understanding this is a long season.”

Anzalone then repeated a saying Bowles preaches to his team: a season is broken into quarters. The Bucs stunk in the first quarter. Time to ball out in the second.

“We treat it as a quarter at a time,” Anzalone said. “The first quarter didn’t go how we wanted or how we planned. But we have to move on to the second quarter and capitalize when we can.”

And the Bucs did just that at Dallas last Thursday night.

“What a great opportunity it was on a primetime game like that,” Anzalone said.

Only once in NFL history has a team started 0-4 and still made the playoffs: the 1992 San Diego Chargers. The Bucs will try to be the second.

Good thing the Bucs play in the NFC South landfill.

Typo…. We have started 1-4 not 1-5 unless you are predicting a loss for us this weekend Joe!!!…

  2. jimmy Says:

the problem with this team is they talk too much

  3. Todd Says:

Gruden Was well known for breaking the season into quarters a long time ago………

Honest question, how does the season have to end up for Todd to save his job? Not saying I want him here next year.

Just thinking about how the Glazers operate. Would finishing 9-8 and winning the division but getting bounced in the first round be viewed the same way it would have been at the start of the year?

Or do they say “He righted the ship after a bad start”.

I still say he has to either get 10 wins and one playoff win or the division and the NFCCG.

Not our fault your team decided to poop the bed the first quarter of the year. You dug the hole Todd, good luck crawling out.

But I will give him kudos for getting a win when everyone, including me, thought the team was going to be embarrassed on national TV.

  5. Lt. Dan Says:

Lt. Dan wants Bowles gone due to his perpetual mediocrity. But…Lt. Dan always tries to be a “glass half full” kinda bloke. It’s possible that the Bucs annual midseason swoon is now their beginning of the season swoon. Maybe..just maybe the Bucs have this years losing streak behind them..?

  6. It’s Exciting!!! Says:

We are 1-6 Joe! Wake up.

  7. Drunk Bucs Fan Says:

    There’s always hope, right?

It’s such an odd place to be early in the year. Wanting change but not able to hope for the things that would make it happen.

I just can’t bring myself to watch them play and hope they lose.

    Super Bowl baby!!!!

He just happened to have ice skated or taken a bad angle that resulted in him catching a punt off someone’s face mask to get an interception.

I love the people that say the players talk too much, they don’t understand that the players have to talk to the media and say something how stupid are people?

  16. Jamal Pool Says:

Fist of all I wish you people stop blaming Todd bowles.that man and his coach staff work there ass off like every other team does. Michael Jordan didn’t win without the team fully concentration are actually really focused on a good win .it takes the whole team to pull together. And few mistakes less penalties . keep ya eyes were the ball is headed at all times and play tight covers on your opponents .knock balls out .put hands in air knock balls down our problem is we let teams get to many first down yards attempts keep us on the field not off field .like Tom Brady use to do. He won first year he came. No why ? Keep the other team off field . And on offense we need to do like bucky run threw them flexing side to side like a freight train mix it up guys get open find way .cross up ❌ angles .you get open. And defense stop the corner runs left right side every team in NFL gets yards running to right left side . Stop your opponents on downs .

  17. McBay Says:

Making the layoffs isn’t really important. It’s how Bowles is keeping the team together and focused, that’s what matters. It’s how they are doing all the other things that makes them great.

  18. Jmarkbuc Says:

His team is notorious for being bored. Whatever.

  19. jimmy Says:

the old folks on the bucs (like anzalone) really should spend more time ensuring their skills havent eroded so much instead of podcasting.

Despite only being 1 game behind them, the Falcons look exponentially more talented and tougher than the Bucs do.

Hope that changes, but not holding my breath.

  24. SkunkApe Says:

If making the playoffs means Bowles stays, I say don’t bother.
