Curt Cignetti Stole From Jalon Daniels

October 13th, 2026

Made impression on championship coach.

Pretty interesting that maybe the best coach in college football had Bucs quarterback Jalon Daniels on his brain over the weekend. In a one-score game. Trailing late in the fourth quarter.

Indiana had the ball on the Nebraska-46 trailing 17-13 late. Fourth-and-one. The defending national champs appeared to be on the ropes.

But from a pistol formation, Indiana faked a handoff and the Nebraska defense bit on the run. Indiana then hit probable first-round pick receiver Nick Marsh as it looked like Marsh ran a slant to the inside. Marsh hauled the ball in and was off to the races with the game-winning touchdown.

Big deal, right? Well, Indiana coach Curt Cignetti, in his postgame remarks, gave Daniels credit for the play.

Cignetti said Kansas and Daniels once used that same play in a similar position. Cignetti liked the play so much he put it in his playbook.

“Kansas made that one famous with the guy who’s starting quarterback for Tampa (Jalon Daniels),” Cignetti said. “Stole that [play] about 5-6 years ago.”

The play didn’t look to be anything special to Joe. But Joe did find it very cool that Cignetti remembered the quarterback and knew what Daniels is doing these days.

Yea, it probably helps when the WR is running wide open, completely uncovered behind the entire defense too… Even I could make that throw lol

    Still a cool story though

    5 or 6 Years ago?
Was Daniels starting, or even playing for Kansas then?

  3. ProffeserVonBrainStorm Says:

Better get another $165 million available for Daniels contract extension.

That’s the going rate for franchise QB’s remember????

We now have two of them apparently. 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

  4. McBay Says:

    Very cool.

  5. Bartow Buc Says:

Jalon Daniels deserves a lot of credit for leading the Buccaneers to a victory over “Americas Team” . But the question remains. Is JD better than Baker Mayfield? Or did the Bucs offense just finally have enough of losing and played well enough to spring Bucky Irving for some huge back breaking runs !!
The whole team played well under adverse conditions in Dallas !!
And I hope they keep playing well against Pittsburgh!!
Baker will be back at some point and we’ll see how he leads the offense!!

    Go Bucs !!

  6. Erik with Unique Modern Art Says:

The point is: Baker would’ve prob missed on the throw and Jalon threw it accurately.

Baker either wouldn’t have seen Tez or even if he did see him, Baker would’ve overthrown him or underthrown him.

Baker is focused on being the best Dad he can possible be, not the best QB he can possibly be.

  7. Steven007 Says:

gp, yep, Daniel’s played for Kansas 6 years I believe. Or he was in college for that long anyway.

  8. Capebuc Says:

This kid is good. The way he’s been playing, Baker overthrows Tez on his big reception, and throws a pick on Egbuka’s 3rd & 21. Make no mistake, huge quarterback conspiracy brewing.

  9. Rod Munch Says:

Actually Baker would have never seen Tez, because he’d have been to busy running around in a circle in the pocket and then would have taken a sack. After that, every Baker Boi in the comments would have said we need 5 new offensive lineman, that every other QB in the NFL has 5 seconds to throw the ball, and only Baker is asked to get rid of it faster than that.

    Competition brings out the best.

  11. Jeffibuc Says:

Reall Erik your knocking a guy for focusing on being the best dad he can be. What is he suppose to neglect his child for his job. I think he already works 6-7 days a week from sun up to sundown. So yeah the little time he is home he should be what watching film and not being a dad. That’s what he does all day at you know work

  12. Warren Brooks Lynch Says:

9-10 guys in the box and every single player with eyes bit on the run lol

Yup, was a true freshman that shortened 2020 season and started his first game that year at 17 yrs old. So add the blanket waiver year and I think he had a medical redshirt year in ’22/’23 which extended his time at KU.

Anything’s good that beats Nebraska and Matt Ruhle. 4th and 1. Priceless. I bet Matt didn’t sleep good last night. Aw.

Baker probably does put his family before football. And he probably slept good last night.

Here in Freeport, Florida for the week and haven’t had much time to follow my favorite NFL team. Wonder if Baker is at practice today? We should be hearing real soon how his thumb is doing. I’d hate to be the one to tell him he’s not playing if he says he’s ready.

If he’s not throwing it at 100%, the coaches need to give him that extra week or 2. Daniels may be better than Baker. But I watched a couple of decent QBs last night(Allen and Stafford.) And Daniels didn’t have the QB stats the last 3 years that those other 3 did.

Mayfield is the way the Bucs are going to ride the next 3 years. It’s good to have a solid backup, but things will start getting really good for this team when Mayfield comes back. Count on it.

“I think he already works 6-7 days a week from sun up to sundown.“

Does that include making commercials or are those done at night? 😁

  16. Gipper Says:

Keep stirring it up. Baker isn’t going anywhere with his big contract but here is the truth. With every missed pass, every fumble and every “L” the fans will be demanding Daniels. And when he does the same, the cry will go out for Arch Manning.

  17. Oscar Says:

The guy is even smiling in the midst of a play. I don’t think I’ve ever seen that ! I don’t know what that means, if anything, but it is bazaar!

  18. Capt.Tim Says:

    lol.
The Bucs beat Dallas, because we ran the ball.
The team took the Ball out Of Jalen’s hands as much as possible.
And that’s ok! He’s a Rookie. That is exactly what we are supposed to do.
Baker is a Pro Bowl QB. Daniels can’t read defenses yet.
But I think he’s gonna learn.

I still think we commit to the Daniels. We need 2 years to fix the team- give him his 2 growing pain years, while we are rebuilding

Trade Baker. He should have left this off season.
We can get a lot for him. There are good teams that don’t have QBs.
    Mayfield would be perfect.
And we get more draft picks! We need them.

I’d trade Baker, Mauch, Vea, and Godwin.
They are “win now” players.this is not a “win now” team.

Give Hurst, Ebuka and Bauer time to develop with Daniels.
Give the new head Coach and GM time to get their systems in place.
    Build a new Interior OLine.
Draft a pass rusher to grow with Bain.

Then we have 3 important things.
    Money, draft picks, and time.
    That should do the trick.

  19. Gipper Says:

    Munch,

Bucs are close to league leaders in sacks allowed. Even your boy wonder, Daniels, has been hounded in his last two games. You pretend to be a football analyst with emphasis on anal. Everyone here knows your anti Baker agenda. Baker Mayfield you remember him? The guy that had the second most TD passes in the last 3 years.

Go meet with your anti Baker club and do whatever it is that you do with that sad group.

  20. Capt.Tim Says:

    Gipper,
    Munch isn’t just Anti Mayfield.
He’s been anti anything Buc and Popular.
Just comes here to stir up arguments, to get people to engage him in conversation . . .

    If you didn’t know better . . .
    Lol

  21. geno712 Says:

Personally, I do not see stud in either Baker or Daniels.

But can keep hoping, I guess.
