The heat is on.
Joe cannot put into words the disgust over what Joe witnessed today (and tonight) at The Licht House. It is easily Todd Bowles’ low.
The Bucs are now 0-2 and the history of those teams making the playoffs is not good. But Joe doesn’t put a whole lot of stock in that this year because the NFC South landfill is garbage. Joe still believes the Bucs can win the division with eight wins.
But back to today quickly: The Bucs just lost, at home, to a team many believe will be drafting a quarterback at No. 1 overall next spring. Why is that?
Because the Bucs just lost to the worst starting quarterback in the NFL on the worst team in the league.
At home.
Bowles has never been known to have an aggressive offense. It seems Bowles has that defensive-coach disease; they get giddy if they keep the game close.
Well, guess what happens when you keep the game close? You keep the other team in the game.
As the Bucs’ offense had all the intensity of a newborn kitten in the first half and was about as aggressive as a 90-year-old woman knitting in her rocking chair, it allowed the bungling Browns to stay in the game.
Touchdowns? Who the hell needs touchdowns when you can kick a couple of field goals?
Joe’s worst nightmare played out perfectly on the turf of The Licht House. The Bucs would circlejerk their way through three quarters, choosing to kick field goals over scoring touchdowns and all the while the Browns would hang around and hang around and then in the fourth quarter make a play and the Bucs would lose.
Joe knows many Bucs fans will be howling for Bowles’ head right now. Get a grip. The Glazer Family has never canned a coach mid-season. And “this Joe” seriously doubts they will start now with a coach they very much like (but few fans do).
This reminds Joe of lousy Lovie Smith’s Tennessee-Ready game. It was the season-opener in 2015. Tennessee drafted runaround quarterback Marcus Mariota, who the Bucs allegedly scouted with Lovie.
Everybody and their brother knew the Titans were going to come out in a spread-option-like offense to make Mariota comfortable. Everyone but the idiot friggin head coach of the Bucs, Lovie. It was like he never saw Mariota ever take a snap.
That was the beginning of the end for Lovie. That loss, though major, got the attention of Team Glazer. But that loss did not tip the scales.
The Capitol Collapse a few weeks later did tip the scales. And Joe believes Bowles is on the cusp of just such a downfall.

Joe, obviously, has not watched the saints the past two weeks. They could easily be 2-0 and we will not hang with them at this low level of coaching and play. The Bucs could easily be 1-1, but it doesn’t work that way. Saints are 1-1 and had an impressive comeback against the Lions and hit a new level today. They’re playing good ball. The Bucs were sloppy last week against the Bengals, particularly giving the ball away 4 times. But, Baker was sharp in the passing game. Today Baker was off target on way too many throws. And, I can’t blame it solely on a porous offensive line, because the O-line was equally porous last week.

Joe might be right about one thing if they love Bowles so much they might keep him around for another year after this no matter how many games they win even if it is only 2 games the entire season. Guess what though the longer they keep him around the more fans are going to jump ship and when no one buys your product or shows up the games then you will feel it especially in times like this with this economy. Anzalone looks washed up and he can’t make a tackle to save his life. Vita Vea is invisible and he weighs 340 pounds. Our savior QB who just had a Brinks truck backed up to his house looks like a bad High School QB. How many times did he overthrow receivers today? Zac Robinsons offense is truly offensive. The only way the Glazers make a move mid-season is if enough people stop coming and advertisers threaten to pull out. Start effecting the owner’s bottom line and they would fire Todd yesterday. I don’t thing that will happen, but that’s what it’ll take.

Yeah, no QB will be great in this current system. Not enough weapons and a poor o-line. And our defense gave up 10 unanswered points, with missed tackle after missed tackle down the stretch. And yeah, the coverage wasn’t great either. If we do stick with Baker, or any QB, this team will need so much help in other areas that it won’t matter. It will be a long, slow death this year.

You cripple the team with a terrible contract, like the one the owners directly did with Baker’s reps after Licht wanted to pass on the deal.
Baker doesn’t give you any chance to win, so the team is terrible – yet at the same time Baker’s contract gives you no hope, no chance to move on.
Attendance sinks, Bucs owners wait until after the Bucs have a terrible season to demand a new super expensive stadium or remodel. Obviously the city and public have no appetite for paying for anything. The Glazers then use that as an excuse to become the London Buccaneers.
Do I think that is literally the plan? No. But it has crossed my mind. If I’m an evil scheming billionaire who wants to move a team, they need to lose, and Baker has been the top loser in football for nearly a full season now.

This is Karma for destroying Trask’s career, not giving him a fair shot and running him out of town.
Everyone deserves this – including Joe, but Bowles most of all.
This is an ongoing clown show. 160 million to a middling journeyman years past his prime season – Carson Wenz is his comparable.
Bowles should have been fired after last season after the team quit on him.
But he didn’t – why? Because the team committed to the contract according to Licht to “force themselves to stick with him”.
Why would you do that? “If a guy is bad we want to make sure we’re forced to keep him” It makes zero sense. It was a .500 team with Mike Evans. Now without Evans its an 0-2 team with a home loss to the Browns.
Reuben Bain invisible again – didn’t show up on the stat sheet at all – BUST. He’s too small, with short arms, getting repetitively washed out at the point of attack.
Mayfield is a total overrated dink and dunk pretender (when he’s not fumbling the game away) – and the Browns EXPOSED that today. The defense can’t stop anyone.
Bowles is a terrible talent evaluator and a terrible coach who has been coasting off Tom Brady and Bruce Arians success. The capital has run out. Here’s a clue… If you have to dig into the numbers as to why this team is actually good instead of just looking at the Wins and Losses on the schedule, you’re fooling yourself – and that’s what we’ve been doing during all of Bowles tenure and I’m sick of it.
My brothers are Giants fans. They have a scrappy exciting team – Dart and Skattebo they have moxie AND talent. Harbaugh is a heck of a coach. I’ll be pulling for them and actively rooting for the Bucs to lose hoping that it ensures Bowles firing once and for all. After Bowles gets fired I’ll be back, but until then this team is unlikeable and unwatchable I just can’t do it. I’ll be celebrating every loss until Bowles is fired.

Lock has a phenomenal defense and o-line to help him. He also has JSN. We have no one near his level at receiver. Shough has Chris Olave, and from what I’ve seen a whole group of hungry receivers. We do not. Can’t comment on Cousins other than they seem to be doing well with a very young, hungry team. We resign washed up has-beens. Wentz has Jefferson, who is arguably the best receiver in the league that you don’t have to even throw that accurate of passes to. He makes plays. We do not have anyone that is even worthy to carry his jockstrap on this team. Vikes also have a good defense. We do not. Baker is not elite by any means either, but before you say I’m defending him, just remember, all of these teams you mentioned have really good players in a lot of different areas and positions. We do not. We don’t have one elite defender or offensive player on this team. We just do not.

Imagine Jish Allen on this team. We probably win a few more games, but we still don’t challenge for an NFC Championship. These teams like the Bills and Chiefs are just different. Anyone at any given time on those teams are making big plays. This is just a poorly managed and coached team with a couple barely above average players. You guys need to accept that. I’ve seen enough from this team to realize that adding a new QB, as bad or as good as they play, won’t put us in the same conversation with any of these well-ran franchises. It’s the bitter pill you all need to swallow. Too many problems everywhere on this team.

I know it’s a pipe dream, because the Glazers certainly would have never fired Bowles to keep Coen and make him HC….but could just imagine if….

Joe needs to get a grip. Baker lost this game again. Not on Bowles. Did Bowles miss the wide ass open WRs or pull another Winston and give the ball away. Did Bowles miss some of those tackles no he didn’t.

At least we can fire Bowles. Being stuck with Baker is simply awful. We are in a very bad spot. No new head coach is going to want Baker. Dude can have great games but is constantly an average at best QB. The last 11 games he has been well below average imo.
Now – watch us beat the Viking with a big game from Baker, followed by another 3 turnover game against the Packers.
Didn’t we already do this with Jameis. Hate that we’re stuck with Baker.

Amazing how irate and nasty people get over a stupid football game. Not a team that has it’s doors blown off every week like Miami, but one where at least there’s a chance coming down the stretch.
This is supposed to be entertainment. You people act as if your life and your paycheck depend on the outcome.

Glazers don’t fire coaches mid season but they have no choice. The team quit on him last year and this year is showing no sign of progress. We have looked bad 11 weeks in a row now. I appreciate Bowles think he has been a better coach then people give him credit for but it’s time for a change. This stadium will be empty next week.
Trade Godwin before deadline trade Vea to a contender trade Wirfs trade every veteran you can get picks and cap space for got to tear this thing down to studs.
I don’t think you can trade Bsker with that contract but nothing is going save this team. Time to accept the truth. You can’t win without a pass rush or any playmakers on offense. Bucky is lone bright spot

I think it is this, the Bucs are talented enough to be in games, but not clutch enough to win them. Part of that is coaching, part of that is leadership.
There were a lot of play calls that had me wondering what were they thinking. There was the touchdown drive where Baker carried the team. He had big run, scrambles and hit Egbuka when the protection broke down. Then with the chance to win the game, he threw one good one and one bad one. The good one was dropped, the bad one he missed. A few things stand out. The big run was a well designed play that fooled the defense. What you don’t see if the offensive line opening up holes and getting to second level blocking. Pass protection is not good enough. The line is our strength? I don’t think so. 62 with two holding calls? Wirfs may not be 100% or probably needed more time during camp that he was hurt through most of. Nothing special coming out of the center and guard play.
WRs – maybe missing the double teams ME13 would draw. Maybe bad route concepts, not scheming them open, or the pressure too much for Baker to find the open guy. Maybe our best WR is not on the field, JMac.
Defense – where’s this dog attitude. Outside of Trotter, they are not doing anything. Vea is either out of shape from sitting out camp, or he’s washed up. Is Kancey getting doubled? Absolutely nothing from them two. Diaby still can’t every make it to the QB, and Bain – is he hurt, are they not coaching him well, make it simple, attack this way, don’t put him into coverage. LBs can’t figure out how to cover a tight end. That killed us last week and again today, wide open TE for the game winner. Who had him? He went in untouched.
We are exactly where we left off last year. Playcalling/offense sputtering. LBs not getting it done, no pass rush. Better leadership needed.
The difference and the reason the Patriots and Brady were able to be successful when they lost their OCs, is that Brady was essentially the OC himself. He understood the offense, how to call the plays, how to read the defense. He knew what routes worked, that’s why he was specific about the WRs he needed. Hell Brady was a coach out there. I don’t know that Baker couldn’t do that, but with a constantly changing OC every season he’s been in the league, he is probably a bit scrambled from it all. If you don’t have a QB that can call the shots, you need a great OC. That’s why we did so well with Cohen.

I was thinking about my paycheck tonight after watching Baker “earn” his and the thought crossed my mind that if I performed my job as poorly as him, could I expect to be paid. The disparity between our paydays is ridiculous but, I believe I perform my job better than he performs his. If I failed as blantly and consistently as Mayfield I would be fired and lose my paycheck. Why in the world does he believe he deserves to make more money than me when his performance is below expectations. As I watch other quarterbacks look like a well oiled machine I have to ask myself, if I was on a sinking ship would I want to depend on him for help. Overpaid, undependable,, inexcusable, inconsistent performance tonight. Sorry, not sorry.

Get a grip?! TF, Joe. It has nothing to do with whether they WILL can his worthless a$$, it’s that they SHOULD. None of us are under the misperception that the Glazers will take drastic action here. They ensured this thing w the coaching staff being filled with people probably WORSE. It’s very likely we just need to ride this out til next season and hope Licht can get a solid up and comer coach (offense)….see both Super Bowl wins for proof. ‘Get a grip’ gtfo of here with that.

I get the anger with Baker, he likely lost 2 games but wh signed off on making him the franchise qb for the next 2 or 3 years? Todd Bowles! Whose defense can not adjust at halftime or make a crucial stop? Todd Bowles! Who chooses to kick field goals on 4th and 1? Todd Bowles! Who has a mentality to play not to lose and keep a game close so that either the offense or more likely the defense wins it late? Todd Bowles! Who is 2-9 over his last 11 games, never beaten an AFC North team, is 1-3 in playoff appearances and never has his team playing with intensity? Todd Bowles!
It is pretty obvious that while Baker and Anzalone are key contributors to losses that should be Ws, one man should be held accountable at the end, yet he is not. Who is he? Todd Bowles! I know he will not get canned until after week 17 but the Glazers should start talking to agents for potential new HC candidates like McDermott, Tomlin, etc…..

Bowles is the common denominator…..this team looked the exact same way when Bowles took over with Brady at QB. Talk to Jets fans….same complaints we have as Bucs fans. He manages the game with the intent to not lose. The NFL is set up to reward offenses that play to win. This has become the same reoccurring discussion for the last 11 games dating back to last year. Bowles can’t fix anything, he’s going to do what he knows which is playing like we’re in the 90s.
