One reason Joe likes to see how players develop from their rookie seasons into their second year is to determine how they respond to a full offseason in an NFL weight room.
Sometimes, the advancement is dramatic. And what Todd Bowles said yesterday about Jacob Parrish gives Joe a little bit of relief from what Joe fears witnessing in downtown Cincinnati on Sunday afternoon.
Joe has zero issue with Parrish other than he hasn’t had that many snaps at outside corner. So he’s still learning there. Last year, after Jamel Dean, it was clear to Joe that Parrish was the second-best Bucs corner.
Bowles doesn’t really hype up players but the way he spoke of Parrish yesterday was encouraging.
“He’s been outstanding in the offseason,” Bowles said of Parrish. “I think [Parrish and Antoine] Winfield [were] probably two of the guys that had the best offseason that we can possibly have.”
A thing Bowles likes about Parrish is that he doesn’t get rattled.
“Nothing phases him,” Bowles said. “He goes to work regardless of who he’s going up against.”
That sort of focus, Bowles said, will sure help Parrish as he and Zyon McCollum will try to slow down Ja’Marr Chase and Tee Higgins.
“He’s going up against two of the best,” Bowles said of Parrish. “Obviously, some great receivers at hand [for the Bengals]. But he’s just got to play his game … and make some plays, and I think he will.”
Parrish getting a pick (good) or two (excellent!) would go a long way toward stopping perhaps the best pocket-passing quarterback in the NFL, Joe Burrow.

The success (or failure) of our CB’s to cover is going to be directly proportional to our ability to get pressure on Joe Burrow. No new surprise there. Get consistent heat on Burrow and their going to be OK.

I’m sure Winfield’s pride was hurt last season and he’s looking to make up for it immediately. I was extremely disappointed in his performance, but they say it was because of covering for other players. I’m really looking forward to coming on here and saying I was wrong about him. If the D is even top 15 this team will do well.

I think Jacob Parrish will be up to the task in Cincy. “Bored and Brittle,” aka McCollum and Morrison are going to be the ones getting smoked all day Sunday.

We will find out real quick how real this pass rush is going to be. Cincinnati has an awful offensive line. If it can make Burrows throw quick you really help this secondary covering these guys. It’s all gonna happen up front first. Put him on his arse.

Here’s some food for thought. If Parrish and the secondary get roasted a few times by the bengals it won’t be the end of the world. It says it in the article they are some of the best in the league. Chase is a beast so he will get his he won’t just make our DBs look bad he makes the entire leagues DBs look bad but it will be up to Bowles to disrupt it. You could put revis , Bailey or prime on chase and he would still make some plays

I think he is being forced to outside corner and
lacks some length. Hes a hell of slot/ nickel but the Morrison
debacle and stubborn Light are forcing this D
to play the season a grade b Vet corner short !!

Parrish is a Great Young Player , sure hope he
feels comfortable with the change and his replacement
is as good at nickel !! Bowles / Licht you were so kicked

In my opinion Parrish is the best cb on the team. With that said he has a true test this week. However, it is not Parrish who is the concern , it is McColumn. I have been saying all off season he needs to be on the bench until he proves otherwise. However the Bucs seem to think Mc Column will be fine. I guess we will see Sunday. Funny last year Bowles told us how good Dennis was. Well it took about 5 minutes opening day to see how good Dennis wasn’t. My guess McColumn gets tested early and often due to his perforence from last year. Yes after this game we will see if the Bucs cbs will be a problem.

He was a real bright spot last year and he plays like a throwback. He deserves the praise.

Anyone that remembers that first Superbowl season remembers the Bad Ass dude that wore number 25. Brian Kelly never got much praise that season really, but he he came up big plays time and again when they needed them! Without number 25 that year, I believe the Super Bowl would not have happened. Think back about huge interceptions and tackles he was in on. They are about the same size and seem to have same demeanor. I hope this guy can step up and be a long term corner! Go Bucs!
