The creamsicles will return in December. Sort of.
The Bucs announced yesterday that they’ll break out the throwback uniforms again with a twist.
The Bucs have been in a rut wearing the creamsicles the past few years, with ugly losses. So why not change the luck?
Last year in Seattle, to honor both Seattle and Tampa Bay’s 50th anniversary of entering the league, Seattle hosted a throwback game wearing their gorgeous original threads. Seattle wore those beautiful blue uniforms with the silver pants and helmets while the Bucs broke out the 1976 road creamsicles.
The Bucs beat the eventual Super Bowl champs 38-35, one of the most thrilling games of the season.
So the Bucs this year will wear the road creamsicles — all white — at home on Dec. 6 against the Chargers. If the Chargers wear their old-school powder-blues, this could be one of the best uniform games since, well, since the Bucs played the Seahawks last year.
Joe hopes this doesn’t mean the home creamsicles are put in mothballs, but Joe can very much understand how the Bucs may want to shake things up with the bad luck of those colors
Joe wonders if this is the Bucs’ attempt to start a whiteout tradition? Penn State started that years ago — though they still wear those beautiful navy blue jerseys — where the entire crowd wears white.
The Penn State whiteout has become one of the great traditions of college football — often copied, never duplicated. So with the Bucs wearing the all-white (with orange trim) road creamsicles, will this now become an annual Bucs whiteout game?

I wish they would use whiteout and erase that idea. Another year of the ridiculous winking pirate emblem. Pandering to old timers and yet another Nike jersey version to sell. The Bucs have one of the best current looks. Use it!

The home creamsicles mean losing. Bucs have won exactly one game wearing those, in the Freeman debut against the Packers in 2009. Burn them.

Creamsicles are the worst uniforms in history of sports. They do nothing but represent losing. All this team does is lose wearing them.
Never wear them again. Host a burn party and torch them in the center of raymond james. invite every fan to bring their orange merch and throw it in the fire and hand them a discount coupon to buy something new.
But then again if it helps get rid of Bowles faster wear them all year. Does Bowles really need any help losing double digit games this year. I doubt it.
I can’t wait until Bowles trash defense gives up 50 to the Bengals week one. Already saw its the highest total in week one. Sports books know Bowles pass defense is the worst in the league

I actually like the creamsicle throwback uniforms and logo better than the current one. Both home and away. The all white fresh out of the tunnel before grass stains Is like having a new pair of white tennis shoes the first day.

Literally everyone with an ounce of taste does. The original Tampa uniforms are some of the best sports uniforms ever made. Also the colors are appropriate for the region.
While I don’t hate the current uniforms, I never understood the dark red. Plus, the Bucs had their own color no one else uses in pewter – which is great – but then over the years they have toned it down so now it basically just looks like silver and doesn’t stand out at all.
But, I will give the Glazers credit for one thing. After the disaster that Nike came up – the alarm clock font uniforms – the moment the Bucs could switch uniforms again they did, and they just told Nike to reuse the 90s Reebok uniforms so they couldn’t screw it up again. That was a good call – except the morons at Nike still got the pewter color wrong.

I remember when we used to wear white at home because Vinnie the Pooh Testeverde was colorblind. Teams started making us wear the creamsicles on the road. Man, that was over 50 years ago.

I don’t believe in curses… We won our very first creamsicle return game against a good Green Bay team in 2009 after 7 straight losses and with a rookie QB getting his first start.
If we’re fluke losing in them, perhaps there’s a dumb conversation to have, but we haven’t played good football in them, period. Heck, last season, first time in all whites we almost gave up a flukish loss to the Jets on a block FG kick TD return, but instead, we were the better team, and it wasn’t some dumb curse.
My issue with the whole thing is I like home threads, new or retro. This team due to trying to gain a “Heat” advantage, rarely wears home threads to begin with, and now late in the year when we typically pullout our creamsicle or red tops at home, we find one more reason to wear away jerseys…meh.

I’m not a fan of gimmicky uniform games. However, I do love the occasional use of the old school Bucs unis. Wear the white jerseys and pants this December but leave the stadium whiteout up north.

While I am not the biggest creamsicle uni fan, the blame for the creamsicle curse does not rest on the unis but the team. Versus the ATL, Bowles D quit, mailed it in, Bowles went vanilla soft and Baker could have salted the game away but threw a pick instead which gave the ATL life. Bowles and Baker get the yips on primetime as well. Last season they managed to beat Houston but lost the other night games in 2026, Bowles is 2-9 with Baker on primetime, 5-12 even with TB12’s magic. I guess the other win was the Philly playoff game. 3rd and 28 under the lights trumps the creamsicle unis for ineptitude.

I’d like to start the tradition of wearing Red on Pewter more than twice a year again too.
It’s been less and less of that combo since Gruden & Dungy days (regardless of not wearing that combo at the beginning of the season or not due to heart)
Love these uniforms though. Seahawks vs Bucs last season might’ve been (was) the best uniform combo game of the season. That was ocular heaven on the gridiron!

Wow, that’s terrible. They should be in their classic powder-blue.
The gold/yellow isn’t going to provide a ton of contrast. If Baker has a bad game I suspect we’ll be hearing about how Baker is color blind.
Speaking of which, I still have the Tampa @ Detroit game on tape where Terry Bradshaw casually reveals during that game that Vinny Testaverde was color blind, which started a big controversy as people wondered if that’s why he threw so many INTs.

I love the creamsicle uniforms. They were the most unique color in all of sports. The Bucs should have at least two throwback games every season. The Uniform has nothing to do with the team losing.
