Todd Bowles Said There Is No Additional Pressure This Season

Since the Glazer Family assumed control of the Bucs in the mid-1990s, they have one consistent pattern when it comes to coaches.
Only one head coach has survived two consecutive losing seasons. And that man won Team Glazer its first Vince Lombardi Trophy.
That man’s name is Chucky.
So with Bowles recording his first playoff-less losing season last year, just looking at the history of Team Glazer, one might think this season Todd Bowles better make the playoffs if his Bucs cannot win nine games.
Yesterday, appearing on WDAE-AM 620/WDAE-FM 95.7 with afternoon host Tom Krasniqi, Bowles was asked how much more pressure there is on him to win games this fall.
Bowles said the NFL is a win-now league and he doesn’t feel any additional pressure than previous years.
“Nah, it’s the same every year, probably since I’ve been playing since high school,” Bowles said of pressure. “For me, it’s the same.
“You don’t put any more pressure than you put on yourself, and you get down to work and you do your job and you make your corrections and you make it better, and that’s all you can do.
“And I get up early and I put in a bunch of work, and sometimes it doesn’t show. The team puts in a bunch of work, and we didn’t get it done last year, so we’re just more determined this year.
“The NFL, like you said, is the win-now league. It isn’t any more pressure than any other year, other than that it’s a new year and [the team] starts over. So you start from from the top and you go from there.”
Now what very well may throw off Team Glazer when it comes down to two straight losing seasons is if the Bucs make the playoffs by winning the division with a losing record, as Bowles and the Bucs did in 2022.
Making owners millions via an extra home game tends to put smiles on their faces. So the Team Glazer two-straight-losing-seasons rule (if it is a rule) may get relaxed if Bowles secures a home playoff game by winning the NFC South landfill, despite having fewer than nine wins.
The trick here is Joe doesn’t believe Bowles has as much street cred with Team Glazer as Chucky had.

We’d all feel the same way, Todd’s getting paid big bucks and if he gets fired, he parachutes out with the remainder of his contract………we’re all in a tough spot, we want the Bucs to do well, BUT, can they do it INSPITE of Todd Bowles???

Bowles is not going to share what was said behind closed doors. He is going to spew the typical approved FO messaging to the media and fans. If he loses the team again this season he is done. This is a no excuses season for Bowles.

No Coach would survive his record in the NFL. Heck Chucky was fired for a 4 game losing streak AFTER winning a SB.
BOWLES is mid a best. BUT they wont fire him.. They will fire everyone else as in the TWO coaching changes this team has had in six season BUT NOT BOWLES
Name any other NFL team who has kept a HC and fired the majority of the Coaching staff TWICE….

Is there any way to be more meh? Low energy, low T just surrounds everything he does and says. Couldn’t possibly rub off on the team, except for always. It sure puts pressure on being a motivated Buc’s fan. Uninspirational about sums it up. We’re not rooting for Cleveland or the Jets, but it”s not that far off. Knowing your HC plays not to lose only instead of kicking butt to win is deflating. I’ll never stop rooting hard for the team, but until this coach is shown the door, all expectations remain on a low simmer. Go Team, Go Bucs!!!!

Just start out 3-1 in the first four, then keep cooking with that sauce….then theres hope. But if we start losing because the D cant tackle, then you better put Baker in as ILB/OLB/DE to make the mental math work with these mental midgets who keep blaming Baker for “Singlehandedly” losing games…..Better be working on your tackling skills Baker!!!

Just imagine u r a owner in what ever business and one of your employees said this to you after the project he/she was working on didn’t make money or was unsuccessful? “Hey Todd what are you gonna change to make the next project you work on successful?”……………..Um nothing gonna do the same thing I’ve been doing since high school…… the balls on this Bowles guy is something else.

I wonder if this guy has ever heard the phrase “work smarter not harder”, re: “putting in all the work”. Maybe just maybe, you’re working hard at the wrong approaches, schemes and strategies.
Sadly his comments are probably honest. He may know or think all he needs to is get that home playoff revenue check for the owners.

I don’t think Todd said that he doesn’t feel the pressure. What he did say was …

I thought Bowles was very straight-forward in how he perceives ‘pressure’ and how he deals with it. He was very clear in the very first sentence when he said “Nah, it’s the same every year, probably since I’ve been playing since high school. For me, it’s the same.”
I’m convinced that EVERY NFL head coach feels like he’s on the hot seat EVERY SEASON. You can only control what you control, and oftentimes it’s those ‘other factors’ that do you in. Todd’s lasted here for SEVEN YEARS all-together. I’m pretty sure he knows what pressure is. And I’ve never once heard him refer to any JBFers as ‘whiny little babies’ so I’d say he become quite adept at keeping his cool under pressure (most of the time).

Bowles should be thankful he works for the Glazers, and not the University of Florida. Dan Mullen casually said when asked about recruiting that he doesn’t do it it during the season in the same lax attitude. Guy was jettisoned a month later after losing.

Here’s where you are wrong. Chucky hated rookies and didn’t like to play and develop them. Bowles isn’t afraid to throw young players out on the field to develop their skills. Chucky ended up with a bloated salary cap with a bunch of washed up old players. Bowles has enabled the Bucs to develop and re-sign their younger players, which has especially helped when they were in cap hell after Brady and Arians left. That matters to the Glazers. As the Glazers have been on record saying, “You think long-term and they will think long-term. You think short-term and they will think short-term”.

Im hoping Todd learned some things, especially from last season and Im trying very hard to be positive and give him one more chance. The draft, the off season, things look a little better this year’s start compared to last. (I know, probably setting myself up for disappointment) but here’s to trying!!

Keep Todd. Unless you can get McVay somehow I don’t see the point in getting rid of him. Don’t blame Bowles for the whole freaking offensive line getting injured and lack of talent on defense since the 2020/2021 team left/retired and we couldn’t backfill that kind of talent instantly.
