“Not Good Enough”
August 28th, 2026
On to Cincinnati.
Time to get the hell out of Jacksonville.
The Bucs got badly pushed around by the Jags in the first of two controlled scrimmages this week. Both Bucs coach Todd Bowles and quarterback Baker Mayfield were not happy at all with the effort. Same for Chris Godwin.
Well, Bowles, speaking after the shutout loss in the final worthless preseason game this summer, was not a happy camper.
Oh, he didn’t unload on his team as he did after the galling loss to the Dixie Chicks last year on Thursday Night Football. But Bowles didn’t sugarcoat things Friday night.
“Not good enough,” Bowles said about the play on the field by the mostly soon-to-be former Bucs. “Any time you get shut out — we didn’t protect the quarterback enough. We couldn’t run the ball.
“And we have up a special teams touchdown.”
Other than that, how was the car ride, Mrs. Kennedy?
Joe almost expected Bowles to break out John McKay’s famous one-liner. After yet another loss by the Bucs, the original Bucs coach said, “We didn’t block very well today. But we made up for it by not tackling.”
It’s time to start worrying about real football.

Is the new ST coordinator still employed?

The depth on this team is so bad. The OL and WRs must not like their jobs very much. Oh well…things will magically change in 2 weeks. Right?

Daniels I thought looked pretty good from what I could see. He had a fumble, which is a knock (if it was in fact his fault, hard to tell from the TV broadcast), but outside I liked what I saw. He was accurate, didn’t panic, and looked comfortable in the pocket despite rarely getting blocking. Also he didn’t blow his top regardless of how many times his receivers kept dropping the ball.
From the TV view, the one criticism you could say is he held the ball too long, but we also couldn’t see the coverage on almost all plays since the garbage WFLA broadcast never bothered to show replays that weren’t just zoomed in close-ups that didn’t show the field. If he had guys open and was holding the ball anyways, then that would be a major demerit, however we’ll have to wait for the ALL-22 to see.
The good news in any case is that Daniels had a higher passer rating (62.4) than Baker had last week (56.2) — and the Baker Boi(s) have spent years quoting that broken stat as the end all be all, so surely they’ll now appoint Daniels as the future. LOL!

Bowles is simply uninspiring as a head coach. A good guy? Sure. A coach who can rally a team consistently? I just don’t see it. Licht and his lifetime contract aren’t exactly raising the enthusiasm either. Expectations are now lowered. Heard a stat today that the NFC South’s win percentage vs teams outside the division is .350.
Bucs may become the tallest midget again in spite of coaching.

They gave up one big play, where it certainly looked to me like Culp didn’t keep his lane – otherwise they had a ton of punts with mostly good coverage. Oh, except later when Tucker missed a tackle on a punt.
Tucker and Culp probably aren’t on the team in the regular season, so wouldn’t be on the field. Take away those two returns, and the coverage was pretty solid.

WR screens…dink & dunk…..awful protection……pretty sad…..our defense looked OK considering we punted 10 times….

Worthless preseason game. Onward and upward.
August 28th, 2026 at 11:26 pm
I was just rewatching games from 2020. It was interesting how Brady responded when plays would break down and he had a free blitzer or whatever. Instead of trying to doing crazy antics he basically just sat down before he could be blasted or threw the ball out of bounds. That’s something Baker needs to learn. Its fun to watch but he gets hurt and then stuggles. Brady just reset and went on to win yet another Super Bowl. 2020 we had the good fortune of having our line stay healthy for the most part.
I don’t know. We’ll see. If the line stays healthy I think we’ll do well enough. Hopefully Bowles retires after this season.

I shouldn’t be but am feeling concerned about our offensive play calling. Those throws behind the line of scrimmage for -1 yard were painful to watch. Really haven’t seen much creative offense this preseason – like we saw from Coen tonight, that made me feel ok about Robinson.
It’s worthless preseason but it would have been nice to see some offense.
I think we have a solid team and will be ok – but Baker’s and Bowles’ jobs are on the line.

TB needs to look hard in the mirror when he says not good enough go bucs 2027!

The game really looked like not much has changed. There were some promising parts to it definitely. Jags playcalling was really good. There was a couple chances there on offense but passes were dropped.

Need to hit the waiver wire for O line and CB….and go sign a #2 bu QB, leave Jalon as #3.

I know it doesn’t matter, it’s preseason. Hopefully everyone that makes the team can come together and have a nice clean game when the season rolls around.

On the bright side, Ayden Izien, er, I mean Garnes, was solid yet again and Morrison flashed readiness to begin his career in earnest. I’ve hammered on Morrison but I also wouldn’t be shocked if he plays 17 games and makes the Pro Bowl this year. The Bucs aren’t all set at CB like the Rams or Seahawks by any stretch of the imagination but Bowles can platoon the talent he has successfully if Morrison and McCollum can’t be boundary bookends spelled by Parrish and Garnes.
If the Bucs have a pass rush and some injury luck this CB group will look great.

Well, now we know exactly what happened all during this week. It was no fluke. They were just entirely outclassed, by a better football team. And, there was just NOTHING that they could do about it. It was like an old broken down mule, trying to run in THE Kentucky Derby.
Daniels had 5 balls DROPPED. The first one to Patterson (or whomever) went right through his arms. The one to Tez is CAUGHT by JMac 💯 of the time, and prob at least 80-90% of the time by both, EE and Godwin. The one to Kam literally, hit him square in the CHIN, while he stood there wide-open and waiting for it. The one to Green, right off his hands… And, the next one (after his one catch), was even WORSE. The fumbled snap looked like it never even touched his hands, and that #66 hit ‘himself’ in his OWN NUTS. I thought Daniels looked fine, under such very difficult circumstances. A HELLUVA LOT BETTER than friggin’ Browning.

Hell, Pyburn played at BOLLES HS, in Jacksonville. One of THE most ‘expensive’ HS’s in the entire country!!!! Or, was at one time. A friggin “powerhouse” in literally, EVERYTHING. He really showed-up and showed-out tonight, in front of his family and friends. I don’t see HOW he’s not on THIS team!? He acted like, he’s JUST NOW started working and playing HARD… That, he never has in the past. Well, that’s Interesting!?
Ronde just said, that ‘someone’ WILL go and claim Daniels for a “FACT,” if he’s placed on the Practice Squad… Because, “he’s been too good this preseason, AND that Z-Rob had HIM ranked as the 3rd or 4th BEST QB in this past draft-class.” He’s the 💯 no-BRAINER #2. For right now, and the time being LoL.

Ole JD livin’ rent free in all the Baker-Boi Bros heads right now. Lmao. “Leave him at #3, they say… Go out and sign someone else, for the Bucs #2” – (notice I didn’t say “OUR” #2 lol). They are just tore all TF UP right now, they don’t know WHAT to do… Can’t even think straight. They’re getting NERVOUS. Scared. To. DEATH. They are really starting to lose-it. The pressure is building up, and growing. Just think if JD had Coen’s ‘play-calling’ tonight, and roster depth. He would’ve COOKED. Baker is a MOE-RON for refusing THAT FAT CONTRACT. He did this to HIMSELF (once again), & has no one else to blame. You get what you deserve.

I’m sure Bowles will fix everything. He’s a guru. An absolute genius. Solved!!!

@CosmoKramer
I could see it going either way because in a way I do feel like they kind of gave up on him (saw that the end of last year) but in another way I could see them maybe winning like 8 or 9.

When Bowles is in control we are in trouble. Here’s to the next losing season on the horizon.

BRING DESMOND WATSON BACK & MOVE HIM OVER TO THE OL!
August 29th, 2026 at 2:20 am
Culp actually caught up with the punt returner but instead of tackling him he decided to try to punch the ball out and whiffed.
