Makes a (big) play!

For a few moments tonight, Joe had Chris Braswell dancing in his head.

No, Braswell was not in the game. He’s back in Tampa, hurt. He may be out of Tampa tomorrow night. The 2024 second round pick has been as invisible as a second-day draft pick can be — unless he was facing the Bucs’ backup offensive line. Then he looked like a pro.

That sort of tells you the state of the Bucs’ backup offensive linemen.

Morrison has been used more than he’s made a good play in his very brief career. Right now, Morrison is more known by Bucs fans for being a name on an injury report, not for anything he has done (positively) on a football field with the Bucs.

Morrison seems like a really good guy. Joe honestly doesn’t think he wants to be hurt. But at some point, if you can’t get on the field, what’s the point?

He played the entire first half against Jacksonville Friday night. Initially, he looked rough. He got juked badly by a running back, giving up a first down. Got cooked a guy who will be teaching history at IMG next week.

But then, when it looked like the Jags were about to go in for a score, Morrison saved a touchdown when he defended a pass in the end zone for an incompletion. Really good play.

Hey, Morrison has it in him; who knew?

After the game, Bucs coach Todd Bowles spoke about Morrison’s play. It seems his rough play early may just be that he’s rustier than a 40-year old truck that was never parked in a garage.

It was good “just good to see him play a half,” Bowles said. “He hadn’t been out there [on a practice field].

“For him to come out there and play a half and on special teams shows that he is finally healthy.”

Even Bowles, Joe thought, was getting frustrated by Morrison always being hurt. At one point this summer during training camp, when asked about Morrison, Bowles grumbled, “The usual.” Meaning he was still unable to get on the field.

“Now he just has to get his timing down and get some reps in,” Bowles said.

Still, Joe doesn’t trust Morrison to be the Bucs’ CB3. That should go to Ayden Garnes. The rookie free agent from Arizona has shown he can handle himself on the field.
