Bucs-Jaguars, Two-Minute Drill Highlights

So the Bucs’ best — defense and offense — faced the Jaguars’ best this morning in Jacksonville to close the day’s session.
Joe took notes.
First, Vita Vea was on the field! He had practiced earlier today on a limited basis.
Trevor Lawrence and the Jaguars started, per an agreement between both teams, with 1:25 on the clock at the 33 yard line with three timeouts.
*The session opens with Lawrence throwing complete to No. 24 on a very short throw.
*Next was a way-to-easy sideline pass to No. 19 for 12 yards and a first down with cornerback Jacob Parrish in coverage.
*Same old Bucs defense? Absolutely not. On a crossing route over the middle, Zyon McCollum swarms No. 18 and breaks up the pass.
*False start, Jacksonville!
*Ayden Garnes enters the game for McCollum.
*Rakeem “Nacho” Nuñez-Roches, just in for Vita Vea, sacks Lawrence!
*Lawrence to 83 and guess who’s there: Garnes with the impressive pass breakup.
Deep throw right to No. 11 and Antoine Winfield, Jr. is in coverage. The pass is overthrown and Winfield gets up slowly. It seems like he has a cramp but then it seems more like a foot issue as Joe studies Winfield on the sidelines. After practice, Winfield flashed his big smile and Joe and said, “I’m great,” when Joe asked about his foot. Joe replies: “But you’d say ‘I’m great’ even if you weren’t.” Winfield laughs and says, “I’m great.”
Now it’s time for the Bucs offense:
*Mayfield throws complete short to Tez Johnson
*Mayfield throws incomplete right on a medium (18 yards?) route to Bauer Sharp. It appears Sharp pulls up on the route.
*Third down: It’s a near pick by Mayfield as Paul Rubelt at left tackle — yes, the fourth-string left tackle in for Tristan Wirfs — helps another play blow up. In earlier 11-on-11, Rubelt was as liability when Wirfs was off the field. It was obvious the Bucs were limiting Wirfs’ snaps.
*Delay of game, Buccaneers. Ugly.
*INTERCEPTION: Mayfield has no receiver in sight as the ball sails deep and is picked off easily. HOWEVER, a defensive face mask call saves the day. First down, Bucs.
*Mayfield short to Payne Durham. Pass broken up.
*Mayfield overthrows Baker.
*Mayfield complete to Hurst. First down for about 15 yards!
*Mayfield throws the ball away.
A lightning delay cuts the drive short and ends practice.

I was there, and it seemed that the poor Jags’ receivers could hardly catch anything thrown their way. The Jags defense did intercept Baker to take it for a “pick 6”. The Jags were celebrating like they won the Superbowl. In the earlier practice session, Godwin looked really impressive.

I hope you are doing ok but man I refresh your website 4-5 times a day minimum hoping for some nugget of news and this is all I get? Come on Joe, I need my fix!

Joe won’t ban you for stating your opinion. However, I disagree and I think most would as well. Camp notes have been great as usual. And what about the alternative? Meaning, there is no alternative. Other Bucs blogs are anemic in comparison. During a week you may see five to seven posts tops. You’ll sometimes get that in a 2 to 3 hour period here. Depending on the news cycle. You’re entitled to your opinion obviously. But don’t worry about being banned. Have you read some of the comments? Joe could be banning guys all day for their stupidity and it would be a full-time job.

Gotta disagree, the camp notes have been fantastic. The Bucs will only let the media see so much so the fact we get this much detail is a miracle. Criticize the Joes opinions but the notes have great imo.
And in other news Baker is a walking turnover. Lol…I thought Bake said he was gonna shock people this season. Oh well. Good to have a Winfield sighting.
I hope Daniels starts for the last preseason game. If he balls out Baker will be more nervous than he already is.

Why all the insults? Your lord and savior mancrush turned the ball over twice when playing against a defense not designed by Todd Bowles. Daniels is younger and cheaper with more upside. During last weeks game when Gru asked Baker about Daniels, he wasn’t excited to talk about him. Its not hard to put 2 and 2 together. Insulting people stating the obvious won’t make Baker a better player. Baker hasn’t shown any improvement this offseason whatsoever while demanding a raise. Today’s practice is a microcosm of what’s to come this season.

This offense is going to take a while to gel. It is obvious this running game has a lot of issues still.
Defensively the front seven looks better but the backend is still had too many young players that lack experience.

was never impressed with Zac while he was with the falcons and now i find him even less impressive….
Baker seems to be following the same pattern from last year imo….he had a bunch of off target throws and INTs during TC but he cleaned it up during SEPT & OCT….
then the ghost of Dennis Green yelled: you are who we thought you were!!!! and the wheels fell off in NOV & DEC lol….
If bucs are going to win 11games and make a deep run in the playoffs, its going to be because of the OLine, RBs and Defense….

Is Baker stinking up the joint? The offense looked very ineffective in those limited snaps last preseason game. Hoping it’s nothing. That seems to happen sometimes in preseason but I’m sure they will be fine.

Bucs still have 2 and a half weeks until our 1st game in Cincinnati. Wirfs has just started practicing, and we’ve still got almost twice as many players as we will have 5 days from now. Once cutdowns occur, both the offense and defense will tighten up.
The only thing that really concerns me right now is why they have Rubelt in there at LT. I could see giving him field time if Bucs were a basketball team (hey, he is 6’10”) but he’s not showing anything on this OLine. We must have better options than that.

Ever since Winfield started doing the barefoot thing he’s been injury-prone. I understand wanting to be stronger there, but unless you’ve been doing it your whole life I don’t think you’re strengthening anything, quite the opposite.

Just listened to Bakers press conference after practice and he said the Jags were flying around and playing with more intensity than the Bucs. Hopefully this is what the Bucs need and make some corrections before they play Joe Burrow and the Bengals.

It’s ok to get beat in practice it will certainly happen in games.
This team went 13-3 last year and is pretty good on a lot of levels.
It’s still not the complete O-Line on Every Play so we need to chill out.
Zac isn’t showing everything and Defenses are typically ahead this time of year.
The sky is not falling.

He said he is planning to send Baker to the middle east to overthrow the Ayatollah…

Our 2nd and 3rd team wide receivers were on the bench. Our first, second, and third team left tackle’s were on the bench. Did Otten play much?
Baker said after practice that we got physically whipped. He also said we were out of shape- guys were winded.
We’re going to have a good offense. I’ll bet the offense will be better tomorrow after the offense hears what Baker said.
The best football teams are going to be in the best shape and will not be physically whipped.
