Tristan Wirfs Returns To Practice Against The Jaguars

Exciting sight this morning in humid Jacksonville.
The Bucs are here for joint practices against the Jaguars and All-World Bucs left tackle Tristan Wirfs is on the field — in pads, hitting people.
Wirfs has been used sparingly in 11-on-11 work, but he sure looks good. The Bucs appear to just be babying his healing (healed?) hamstring.
There’s quite a dropoff, obviously, as Wirfs plays a few snaps and in comes undrafted free agent rookie Paul Rubelt to replace him.
Joe doesn’t think it was a coincidence that Wirfs was on the field when Ted Hurst caught a 3o-yard dart from Baker Mayfield down the left seam. Hurst got to show off his YAC (yards after catch) burst, but the play was blown dead after the catch.

I know people freak out about preseason snaps like we are in a nursery but I would like to see Bain out there a little longer David baily has had 20 snaps to ruebens 6 how much bubble wrap do you need on a rookie let him get some work in. Probably me thinking selfishly but whatever can’t wait until the season starts.

What’s the deal with the other two backup tackles that have been injured. We know Wirfs won’t play Friday night but if you are looking to make a decision on the backup QB you have to have a line that will protect long enough to actually throw the ball before getting clobbered. Hopeful the Bucs have a plan to let Browning and Daniel’s to battle it out without one of them getting killed in the process.

I know he was criticized a lot, but Paul Rubelt didn’t look as bad as the right backup tackle, I thought he was ok.

Steve I’m not sure they are trying to make a decision on 2nd string QB,, I think that decision was made by Bowles ,, now who goes to the 53 and who goes to the PS ,, those are the decisions

I think you’re Spot On with your question. The Occum’s razor here is that bowles truly is negligent concerning edge rushers / olb’s and what is and what isn’t best for that position And just the guys sense of knowing what he’s doing “in general use of the position” there of…
Don’t care what others think about his “guru” status because in my eyes THAT’S a COMPLETE FARSE! In the meantime, what’s Not been mentioned is “his Utter Distain concerning the position” and the ROLE that the position plays through ANY DEFENSE IN THE LEAGUE! bowls has a particular Disturbance In His Head for the position as well likely “due to a BET while he was a player” and he’s “been trying to prove and win the bet EVER SINCE” WITH “CRAP” FOR RESULTS!
In any case his lack of the “proper use” of Any and All OLB’S is self evident in what you Are and what you’re NOT seeing on the field of play.
He’s FAR MORE CONCERNED with the “coverage skills” of ANY AND ALL OLB’S than the EMMENSE QB HUNTING CAPABILITIES OF the ELITE OLB or Edge rusher! Only that they can stop the run and primarily cover receivers. THIS! This IS the BOZO MO!
NO MATTER how successful, ELITE, and STRAIGHT UP GIFTED the olb or edge rusher may be in Bringing Down the QB…. To bowles, those sought after “ALL WORLD SKILLS ARE SECONDARY TO HIS BET” that the “SECONDARY are far better QB hunters”… NOT!

But in limited reps Saturday night he looked super quick and ready to roll.

Fun fact: The Bucs defensive rankings (points against) since Baker got here:
2023: 7th
2024: 16th
2025: 20th
That averages out to: 14.2, which means the Bucs have had an above average defense overall.
Some more stats: Bucs defensive rankings in the playoffs (points against):
2023: 3rd
2024: 7th
Maybe the issue with the team isn’t Bowles and the defense… maybe it’s the QB who has a 2-11 record in primetime and playoff games since he got here.

. In our last two playoffs eliminations. Our legendary defense gave up 31 points against the Lions and 31 against the cowboys. The only good defensive game we had was against the eagles. Funny how we only get eliminated when our defense gives up 30+ points (80% of teams do) #QBsFault

Anyhony. I totally agree. Rubart looked good considering the circumstance. That RT disgraced Paul Gruber’s #74. It was like watching a center pop up on the snap and pancake a nobody backup wearing #99. 😝

Wow. I agree with munch and obliviousone though it seems your caps lock kept getting stuck. This is one of those times where some of us wish we were wrong about our coach. But ods are that we are correct. I’m rooting for bowels to coach brilliantly this year and proves all of us wrong. Go Bucs!
