Ted Hurst Loses His Cool

August 22nd, 2026

Rookie receiver Ted Hurst.

Rough night for Buccaneers rookie receiver Ted Hurst.

On the Bucs’ opening drive, Hurst channeled a clown move from The Lost Decade and punched Chiefs cornerback Mansoor Delane in the back of the head. Yes, the zebras saw it and flagged for a 15-yard personal foul.

It was a 2nd-and-8 run by Kenneth Gainwell and Hurst was blocking Delane, who gave him a little extra push (nothing crazy) after the whistle. Hurst responded with a clear left-handed shot to the back of Delane’s helmet.

Joe hopes that was a learning experience for Hurst, who finished with no catches on one target. What made it extra frustrating for Joe was Delane also is a rookie, a first-round pick. So it’s not like Hurst was hounded and irritated by a savvy veteran.

Hurst probably cost himself a little trust from Todd Bowles and offensive coordinator Zac Robinson.

    Another Licht draft bust.

  5. Domingo Says:

Getting dumb personal fouls after the whistle?! Maybe this dude is the second coming of Mike evans…

  6. firethecannons Says:

Another learning lesson for this player, last week he let the ball get knocked out of his hands in the endzone, today he is very unprofessional and loses the team 15 yards and a down. He is not yet ready for prime time that is for sure.

  7. FortMyersDave Says:

At least this mistake happened in preseason. I remember Lavonte David made a boneheaded penalty which cost the Bucs a win back in the Schiano days opening the season against the Jets, which ciuld be used against him when Ira tries to get him a gold jacket.

  8. Alldaway Says:

Hurst will be fine. The rest of the offense needs a lot of work.

  9. ModHairKen Says:

    Hope he doesn’t get Shilo’d.

Will he get chewed out about it? probably does it mean much in the long run? nope.

“I like that kind of spirit in a ball player!” – Indians manager Lou Brown in ‘Major League’. I do too.

The kid is just showing shades of Mike Evans vs. Marshawn Lattimore. If he is up to start a rivalry with Delane I’ll put up with those two trading suspensions and fines as long as his play and production on the field is similarly Evansesque.

I’m as confident as I can be Hurst is no head case. I’m pleased to see he has some edgy competitor in him. He comes off “too nice” in pressers, which I like and respect plenty as well. This kid just keeps endearing himself to me in all the right ways. This is just another “arrow pointing up” to me.

It’s the PRESEASON. Commenters on here need to go on Lithium or something. Sheesh.

  20. Rod Munch Says:

Thanks to the amazing production work of WFLA, we got to stare at Andy Reid’s mustache for 2 mins instead of seeing a replay of what happened.

  21. Warren Brooks Lynch Says:

Forgettable offense. Cool he won’t take any crap, good he’s got some pride to him, but that’s a mental error too. Flag, fine, and you’d like to keep those at a minimum moving forward. Teaching moment for Ted, I’d be made too if my PT lined up with Browning cause he’d eat with Daniels lol

  22. Erik with Clean Athletics™ Says:

    Draft bust? LMAO.

Those are the dumbest comments of the day. 💯

Hurst lost his cool on one play, but he will be our best WR1.

I was at the game and the replay looked like the db was holding his facemask….not sure if TV had a different angle. Either way you can’t do that.

  24. DRob Says:

3rd round. No idea why you wrote first round.

    Have you heard of bain?

    ——-

On TV we literally didn’t get a replay. I think they literally just showed Andy Reid for like two straight mins – or maybe that was a different penalty later in the game, I don’t remember. But in any case, for us watching on TV, we never saw it.

  26. Kenton Smith Says:

Yeah, it was a drive killer. That’s why you don’t do that. On my broadcast- Chiefs broadcast team- We Saw It. He smacked that DeLane right in the head. Flagrant. Disregard for penalty.

That DeLane was the 6th overall pick this year and he flashed all night. And Hurst played just as hard. Those 2 are really good rookies and they should both have great rookie years.
