Ted Hurst Blows Up The Jets!

August 12th, 2026

Ted Hurst alongside Emeka Egbuka (right) at Bucs-Jets joint practice in New Jersey.

UPDATED: The Bucs, you may have heard, are practicing just across the river from New York City. And the Gotham media is watching.

Which means America is watching.

And Ted Hurst is putting on a show for America. The Bucs and Jets were running a one-minute drill very late in practice today with the first-team Bucs offense against the first-team Jets defense. The Bucs began from their own 20, with timeouts. And Hurst decided to step outside the phone booth.

In Mike Evans-like fashion, the rookie from Georgia State caught passes of 8 and 25 yards in addition to drawing a defensive pass interference flag in the end zone.

How Mike Evans of him!

The drive ended with a Bucs touchdown!

Hurst has shown all training camp how consistent he is catching contested passes day in and day out. He’s like Chris Godwin that way in that he makes tough catches look routine.

Now, he’s showing he can handle pressure situations against dudes in different-colored jerseys.

Arrow pointing up for the lanky rookie third-round pick!

Kid has me pumped since Steve Smith’s breakdown of his draft tape and called him Larry Fitzgerald like. Man our last few draft classes have been pretty good. It’s like our Front office knows what they’re doing

  5. Tony Says:

Yeah I liked him at Georgia St. I always thought he was somebody similar to Evans, too!

  6. TampaBayBucFan Says:

Looks like we may have another 3rd round WR winner added to Godwin & Jmac.

  7. Nick2 Says:

Awesome!! I love it! Whoever scouts WRs for the Bucs needs a major pay upgrade or promotion it’s getting absurd!!!

  8. BakerFan Says:

Just read that Bengals are going to play their starters on Thursday vs. The Lions. Seems like the Bengals media and fans are hyping this team pretty highly. Bucs may have a hard time of it if they don’t shore up the CB situation, which again falls on Licht and Bowles. They know it is a weakness and they do nothing about it.

Bengals knew their defense was a weakness and did a lot of moves to improve.

Nice job Debbie Downer. Buc fans are hard to behold.

    Excellent

But a friendly reminder that the opposing team is:

    JETS

  15. BucsFanSince1996 Says:

@BakerFan, there is time for Licht & Bowles to bring in one or more CB’s. They might sign one on August 30th, after teams cut back to a 53 man roster. Or they can bring in a CB as part of a Vita Vea trade. 😉

  16. Architek Says:

Why can’t we draft CBs with upside like this?

    ^^^^^^^^^

Because Bowles wanted them to draft his buddy’s son, who seems to be the Bronny James of the NFL, plus injuries.

  18. JA Says:

When was the last time you heard of a receiver “blowing up” another team by catching two passes for 33 yards?
    Oh yeah, today!
Look, I hope the guy becomes a diamond in the rough, a steal, a stud … Choose your own moniker describing greatness.
But Joe’s penchant for hyperbole is downright funny!
Think he can become the first HOF inductee before playing a regular season game? If the voters were all Joes, I’d say … Yes!!!!!
BTW—the Jets are popular in some circles, but NYC is far and away a Giants town.
Wondering if Joe caught any media types approaching Todd and stating, “We miss you!”
Now that would be a story.

    ………………

Agree, but watching him sit on his hands last year before trade deadline which the Bucs had several needs does not give me much hope. I also think the CB room needs more than just a scrap off the cut list.

  20. Teacherman Says:

He’s more comparable to Randy Moss than Mike Evans in terms of size and speed.

    Mike Evans idolized Randy Moss.

I like the connection here. Mike Evans, Randy Moss, and Ted Hurst.

I think we got another 1st round talent in the 3rd round.

  21. Confido75 Says:

I see a lot of people hating on Hurst, but he put up monster stats in college for a bad football team in a non-power 5 conf. When the QB was upright and able to get the ball to him he destroyed DBs. In 2024 he had almost 200 yards and 2 TDs against a Diego Pavia led Vandy team that upset then #1 Alabama. The kids got skills and he will do well.

  22. Allen Lofton Says:

Looks good but he ‘s going against the New York Jets and not a Rams or Seattle Seahawks defense. Filling Mike Evans shoes with a third string draft pick is beyond a stretch of one’s imagination.
It’s a big wait and see. His height and speed are unique but replacing a future Hall of Famer is a big stretch for a rookie in training camp.

  23. sam Says:

Joe…any update on Ebuka? PFT is saying he limped off the field

When Hurst catches a TD pass in a regular season game wake me up.

  25. Steve V Says:

@ summers eve..You dont have to be an AHole all your life..Nothing like hiding behind that key pad..

  26. Stpetematt Says:

Are you even a Bucs fan, George? If not- why are you here?

Hurst will catch plenty TD passes in his future. He has the body type of a major red zone threat.

  27. Steve V Says:

@ Allen. Evans wasnt a ” hall of famer” the last few seasons ,he was just a hurt crybaby!

  28. Steve V Says:

Whats more challenging? Going up against the Jets 1st team defense or the trolls saying something positive!!

  29. Steve V Says:

Anyhow I’ve wasted enough of my energy the trolls..That’s what the offense was supposed to do! right down the field and score 6 ,it just carries right into week 1. Go Bucs!!!

  30. ir8oldman Says:

Trolls take that all day.. Must have loads of fun by themselves.

  36. Tony Says:

That’s why it’s good to look at players coming out of anywhere because you can get them from any college even though yeah most of them come from the more popular colleges & conferences.

Ted is a Great young player if coaching and playing time happen this year is going to be great for him and a great replacement for Mike go bucs!

  42. ModHairKen Says:

It’s been two weeks of practice and not even a preseason game. Let’s just accept what he has done and stop anointing him as Randy Moss or Mike Evans.

Same goes for Bain, Scott and Trotter.

    Jesus. God.
