He then went for a private stroll with the head coach as Rakeem Nuñes-Roches began talking to media. Joe loves how Ira always is searching for perspective to offer Bucs fans.

Did Ira cover the Bucs since ‘76? 77?
I remember one of the first things I ever read in a newspaper was Tom McKwen. I use to cut them out because my teacher in elementary school used to ask us to bring in the articles we read from the news paper.
Ira started covering the Bucs in 1985, started his sports media career in 1976. Was a New York Giants beat writer starting in 1979.–Joe

Tom McEwan was an absolute legend at the Tampa Tribune. IMO, he was the most connected sports journalist in Florida history and deserves some of the credit for helping Tampa land an NFL team. A fun guy to read and a proud homer for the Bucs to his dying day.

SB, I believe both were with the Tribune. The times had Hubert mizell back in the day and then Rick Stroud as well as others.

How did Ira get close to Chris Russo? Was it during his Giants beat?
Did he break up a few fights between Russo and Mr. arrogant, Mike Francesa?
His accent still resonates NYC. Was he born there?
