“We’re Exactly Where We Want To Be”
July 31st, 2026Reading season previews on the Bucs from national media types, very few expect the Bucs to have a good season.
Many of these NFL sophists look at Mike Evans and Lavonte David leaving and seeing the Bucs’ best corner escape and wonder if it is finally time for the slimy Saints or the Stinking Panthers to become top dogs in the NFC South.
And in the immediate aftermath of Baker Mayfield venting about his contract and Vita Vea launching Operation Shutdown out with a tweaked back, mood from the outside looking in is doom and gloom.
But what is the view from the inside looking out? Todd Bowles was asked if he senses a collapse like others. Bowles believes the Bucs are in a good spot.
“We’re exactly where we need to be,” Bowles said. “We’re exactly where we want to be. We have great leadership.
“So, the outside doesn’t matter to us.”
Bowles has a strong history with the Bucs for starting fast — 2-0 in his four seasons as head coach. The problem is the middle of the season when the Bucs have a bad habit of tripping over themselves.
So given Bowles’ street cred of having the Bucs ready to play, if Bowles said the Bucs are in a good spot after the first three days of training camp, Joe believes him.

Two leaders who just left the team (one suspected because you came back) and two others that are either demanding a trade or not getting what they want on their new contract. Chaos is not a good look, and this is chaos.
…but this is where you want to be?
Wow… just… Wow.

Bowles + Bowles = Bucs Good to Go Baby!!!

Wishing I could be more optimistic for the season but with Bowles as HC/DC and the fact that the team has a history of being soft, injury prone and serial loafing, I just don’t trust any hype anymore. I am not from Missouri but regardless, show me the hype show up on game days!!!

We got rid of the bad coaches. We are in the right spot right now.
LFG!!!!

Mediocre. Middling. Apathetic. Those are words I’d use to describe this “head coach” of professional football players. He’s had how many OC’s since BA left? Some were flops, others, are now head coaches who seem to be giving their fanbases hope brighter days ahead. With this guy, it’s been the opposite. His dog crap approach has been abysmal and he’s right about one thing, he’s got this team right where they need to be….on the brink of an implosion, fire sale, and total rebuild.

Reminiscent of “We’ve got them right where they want us”
Sure wish we could have McKay back!

This guy says the same things every year and when the games get real, he can’t lead them. A career loser that no one should take seriously.

Bucs tend to trip over themselves because injuries tend to pile up. Early, the injuries haven’t happened as much yet. Figure out what’s causing the injuries and make them stop- perhaps by toughening everybody up. With a full starting roster, Bucs will win way more games than they lose.

What does Bowles know? He couldn’t stop 3rd and 28……last go around for you Todd. You can take your cluelessness in to retirement after that. Enjoy.
“We gotta coach it better”……. 2-7 finish……..not a clue.

Me? I look at the Bucs and see way more talent on the roster than I usually have over about 30 years of fandom. And I see the second best quarterback we’ve ever had. The coach is mediocre, but plenty of mediocre coaches have won big in this league. And if this team had won one more game last year, it would have been a playoff team. So I am optimistic. Plus it’s just more fun to be optimistic and excited about the season ahead. But all I’m seeing from all corners is pessimism and hate. It sucks! The other parts of life are supposed to be hard. This part is supposed to a fun distraction. This team has every chance to be fun to watch and win a bunch of games. GO BUCS!

This camp has already opened with “Bad Ju-Ju”!!!!!!!!!!!

Imagine how different the outlook would be if the Glazer hive mind had done the right thing and fired Bowles after the 2-7 debacle:
– The new coach gets to “test drive” Mayfield for a year, with everyone (including Baker) understanding that this is prove it year. Instead, the team has to resort to resort to stupid negotiating tricks to avoid committing long term to him, creating bad feelings and the potential for chaos. Same for Vea.
– We would actually see if some the young talent in the team is salvageable. Surely the Glazers have to know that Bowles has no clue how to “fix” McCollum, YaYa, Dennis, etc. Instead, it’s wash/rinse/repeat.
– By holding Bowles accountable for the shameful quitting/loafing of the second half of the year, you establish a “zero tolerance” environment going forward. Instead, the team knows that the hive-mind tolerates such weak behavior at the top level.
It is hard to imagine a significantly improved result achieved by re-rolling the same dice. Hope I (and most of us) are wrong!

The cry babies are sure out today. Baker is inconsistent and wants a ton of money for it. Glad the Bucs didn’t give him a long term deal. He’s bin paid what he’s worth since being here. If he has another season like 24 ok then open up the check books but if he has a season like last year then that would ruin the franchise for a long time. Bucs are doing the right thing. I’m a baker fan and a huge one at that and same with vea but these guys are in there 20s anymore and we have other positions coming up to sign. I’m pleased with what the Bucs are doing except brining in a few more corners other than that Bucs lookin good

Not optimistic one bit about this season.

“I’m a baker fan and a huge one at that and same with vea but these guys are in there 20s anymore and we have other positions coming up to sign.”
I hear you, but Vita would take that 2yr/$100M deal without blinking. Pay floors are different, but Baker isn’t the talent nor athlete that Vita is-to be clear.
Baker plays a higher valued position, Vea is the more valuable player.

Mod me Baby….I will be right on the money and JBF can not stand it….
July 31st, 2026 at 3:59 pm
I think the Bucs would be better off with a HC who wasn’t almost comatose. It seems to have rubbed off on the defense the last few years. No accountability, there won’t be any this year either, with Coma-Todd in charge.
July 31st, 2026 at 4:00 pm
Mods must be paid to stick with Bozo….not me.

All good players are trying to escape this disaster.

Is Simple T a male/female Bucs cheerleader in his/her spare time? Or at least on the Pom Pom Squad (for the less attractive people)? YAY! GO TODD, THE GREAT GURU OF DEFENSE!
July 31st, 2026 at 4:58 pm
Isn’t this the same Bowles who said the LB room was in great shape last year?
