“Unbelievable” Reviews For Chris Godwin, Emeka Egbuka
July 30th, 2026Joe wishes all fans could see how great receivers Chris Godwin and Emeka Egbuka have looked in practice.
(Yes, Joe knows Godwin got a rest day today — Day 2 of training camp.)
Godwin looks silky smooth, quick and strong, Remember, Godwin was the best receiver in football in 2024 when he went down with a season ending ankle injury.
Egbuka? The guy is a hell of a practice player and has been since he arrived at One Buc Palace last year. He was pretty damn good in his rookie season, too, until the long season and changing roles tackled him from behind.
Today during a visit with Prickly Pete Prisco of CBS Sports, Baker Mayfield broke from contract chatter to laud his receiving corps to the extreme.
“C.G. looks unbelievable right now,” Mayfield said with conviction. “He’s getting back to his normal ways. Emeka is going to take a huge leap from Year 1 to Year 2. Quite frankly, we asked him to do too much last year. We put too much on his plate as a rookie. And he is somebody that’s capable of handling it, but he’s going to take a huge jump. Jalen McMillen looks unbelievable as well.”
Yes, the Bucs have a strong corps of receivers, good running backs, a stud offensive line, a capable tight end — and a quarterback who will command a fortune if/when he comes off a good 2026 season and the Bucs’ front office is pleading with him to stay.

INCREDIBLE to hear
July 30th, 2026 at 4:11 pm
Pleading? Lol that was good for a laugh joe.
July 30th, 2026 at 4:15 pm
@Joe
This is the kind of reporting fans appreciate. Encouraging, football focused, and based on what you’re actually seeing. What happens behind closed doors with contracts is none of our business. Our job is to enjoy football. If Godwin is back looking like himself, Egbuka is making the Year 2 leap, and J-Mac is turning heads, that’s exactly what contenders are built on. We’ll find out soon enough.
Wake me up Week 1… heck, let’s start with preseason. Until then, let the doom posters keep chasing headlines while the rest of us watch this roster get ready to win.
🔥 LFG!

If the Oline stays healthy this team can easily finish with a winning record. We might even have some depth this year.
The D will depend on the Dline because CB might be the weakest group on the team.

Music to the ears and the soul. Especially a bit extra for CG, the type of guy he is and what he’s been through!
July 30th, 2026 at 4:34 pm
Joe, it seems to me the Glazers have made a statement, win now or a rebuild is coming.
July 30th, 2026 at 4:46 pm
great article!!!!
now lets see wins!!!!
GO BUCS!!!!
July 30th, 2026 at 4:49 pm
Awesome news about Chris! He’s going to play a critical role this year!
July 30th, 2026 at 4:56 pm
We’re just glossing over the fact our $33M receiver is taking a day off after one practice?
Learning a new offensive system, and we’re just chalking it up to a ‘rest day’? How many other veterans got a rest day in Day 2?
July 30th, 2026 at 5:17 pm
I hate guys on this site…. they can never look at the positive and always are trying to tear it down. What miserable sub humans you are. And you know who you are!
July 30th, 2026 at 5:18 pm
They will sooner plead with him and Vea than make the Zyon Mistake ™️ and extend early.
July 30th, 2026 at 5:19 pm
Bucs now has an OC that knows how to incorporate the TEs and RBs on second downs.
July 30th, 2026 at 5:21 pm
It’s funny how it’s always the “optimistic” Pompom squad that immediately reverts to name calling.
July 30th, 2026 at 5:24 pm
exciting to hear but i will temper it due to alot of wrs look great vs db field

“Emeka is going to take a huge leap from Year 1 to Year 2. Quite frankly, we asked him to do too much last year.”

I don’t know, the team asked him to get open, and he’d be wide open, and then you’d miss him by a mile when he was alone in the end zone. Or wide open for a 1st down vs the Falcons to put the game away, and you miss him by a mile.
Anywho, Godwin and McMillan in particular, looked fantastic to end last year, but everyone was held back by Baker and his 122-yard and 145-yard games.
July 30th, 2026 at 5:53 pm
Great to hear some good news!!!. Yes I am predicting Godwin to have a superb year!!!!

Nobodies “glossing over” anything. Ignorant comment.
Chris is 30 and has come back from 2 devastating injuries. He’s been around long enough and is smart enough to pick up the new offense no problem – he’s been studying it for months.
Bucs did the same with Mike and LVD
July 30th, 2026 at 6:13 pm
Obviously all 3 are talented in their own way respectively. Now the question is will they produce on a consistent enough basis to where they’re making a difference game in and game out?
We’ll have to wait and see, but them looking good in practice doesn’t suprise me and Egbuka came from OSU wouldn’t put it past them having some super competitive practices with the talent that program has at in spades.

You really live up to your name, Simple T. Everything in your world is sunshine and lollipops. Chris will have an all-pro year. So will Baker. So will the entire team.
Yes, 2 devastating injuries, that’s precisely why I bring this up. I’ll ask again, how many other vets took Day 2 of TC off? But I guess it’s nothing to worry about. “No problem.” This seems to be your perspective on everything. Keep it simple.

Hopefully Jalen put on a few pounds !! He may just have the best feet of the group .
Rec corp should be pretty sound !!
July 30th, 2026 at 6:32 pm
All over ESPN ! Mayfield feels disrespected because he is the only QB in over a decade who can’t throw the ball 1000 yards to HOF WR Mike Evans and wonders why Jason won’t give him a extension.
July 30th, 2026 at 6:38 pm
I love sunshine and lollipops,if your not living like that then your not living! What a dumb comment, Hearty needs to find Jesus
.
UGH
July 30th, 2026 at 6:48 pm
Bin raising hell with every commenter that had bashed CG called him washed or said we shouldn’t have resigned him cause they have no clue what they are talking about. He was the best in the league before that dirty hit in the ravens game took him out. He was balling way more than Evans was and let me tell ya that ain’t easy. So glad we kept him just shows the morons will be morons
July 30th, 2026 at 6:48 pm
Great WR room, but Baker’s “shady” comment just buried any chance of him getting a contract. The Glazers do not like players being unprofessional and that is what he just did. I get he is frustrated and the Glazers should be owners of Dollar Tree stores, not an NFL franchise, but you just can’t say stuff like that. Just go to work, do your job and it either works out or not and you move on. You have an agent for a reason. Let him run his mouth for you. That’s why you pay him.
July 30th, 2026 at 6:56 pm
The offense has a chance to be top 5. It all comes down to health. The ST will be vastly improved with Danny Smith. If the defense can just be around average, this team has a chance to be really good.
The Panthers are really taking it hard in the injury department. The lost their promising young LB Scourton for the season w a torn ACL. And now lost their 3rd round rookie WR for the season with another knee injury.
The Falcons dont have a healthy starting QB.
Just hoping the Bucs can avoid major injuries this camp.
July 30th, 2026 at 6:57 pm
It is so sweet the Bucs get recognition finally after Brady. I believe we will have a late 90s early 20s team
July 30th, 2026 at 7:05 pm
“ I love sunshine and lollipops,if your not living like that then your not living! What a dumb comment.”
It’s spelled “you’re,” not your.
Guess that point went right over your head. Sunshine and lollipops are symbolic of things everyone likes, but it’s not reality. Godwin is one of my favorite players, but just keep your head in the sand if you don’t think him missing the second day of TC after an entire offseason is somewhat alarming.

Dudes that have a temper tantrum when someone disagrees with them in the comment section is great entertainment. Your complaining is hilarious, lets have some more!!
Did I spell everything correctly?? LOL

LOL read the whole thread to see who’s throwing temper tantrums. Say anything critical of this team or players and the pompom squad throws fits and starts name calling.
And it sort of undermines calling someone else’s post dumb when they can’t spell a 5 letter word, no?
But apologies. Message boards are much more fun and interesting when it’s nothing but Go Bucs! Crown us! Here we come Super Bowl!
July 30th, 2026 at 7:41 pm
Anyhow you got my point! Lol! Nothing like the gift of gab! It’s a game you shouldn’t let your panties get in a wad,you act like your paying the players Mr.Perfect
July 30th, 2026 at 7:43 pm
how fire would that be if big CG blows the league up this year with a killer type pro bowl season…
an “i ain’t washed out yet” 2026 campaign…
let’s go bucs!

Wtf is up with comments on this article….. I’m trying to talk to my new pal Hearty 🤣
July 30th, 2026 at 8:37 pm
Hey Hearty — You’re good at instant judgment, but you could be out of line. How do we know that it wasn’t a totally necessary personal day for Chris?
Oh, regarding sunshine and lollipops: Both are reality.
Open mouth, insert foot.

Yep. Because it means nothing.
July 30th, 2026 at 9:28 pm
They did Physicals Wednesday. Godwin sat out today.
When did he look good?
I hope Chris can rebound. I’m worried injuries have robbed him of his elite talents.
EE was great for 8 games. Then was invisible the last 9 games
Hope he can reappear.

Chris Godwin’s day 2 was planned. It was one of the first questions at Bowles presser. He said it was a scheduled vet day off. This is done for lots of 30+ y/o vets around the league. Anyone concerned about it is Really looking for something to be worried about.
July 31st, 2026 at 8:57 am
My bets are on CG to silence the Negative Nancy crowd in here of late. The fake Buc fans in here will find the next guy to rave against within minutes though.
Go Bucs!
July 31st, 2026 at 10:02 am
When did the comments section on here become some old hens squawking at each other? I’d rather go hang at a Red Hat Society meeting.
Godwin sounds like he is back to form after some devastating injuries.
EE will not be slowed by a bad hammy like the second part of last year.
I don’t know how many times both of these statements have been made in the articles on this site. Some of you don’t conceptualize these statements.
July 31st, 2026 at 11:25 am
Ok Joe
Who would you rather have Stephon Diggs or Jaden McMillan as your 3rd WR
A better player at wide receiver is out there, but according to Jason Light and Bowles
“We like the guys we got” and
“Our young guys need the reps”
