Baker Mayfield Wants Bucs To Pay Vita Vea

As Joe wrote yesterday, Vita “Trade Me” Vea has an alleged back injury.
Baker Mayfield, not known for his orthopedic expertise, doesn’t seem too concerned about Vea’s “tweaked” back, as head coach Todd Bowles described it.
After throwing public daggers at the Buccaneers front office this morning, Mayfield gave his buddy Vea a shoutout. He and Vea have fat contracts for 2026 but are seeking contract extensions.
Vea asked to be traded; Mayfield did not.
“I hope Vita gets his back fixed and gets his deal done,” Mayfield said. “I mean, he’s the second-longest tenured Buc behind [Chris Godwin]. And Vita deserves that. He’s an anchor of our defense and so I hope they take care of him. It’s disappointing to say the least. But It’s all ball here and I know I’m happy here. I know this team, the things that we went through last year put us in a good spot for this year depth-wise. A lot of guys have been thrown into the fire to be able to grow and learn fast. It didn’t go the way we wanted, but it’s a new season.”
Mayfield went on to say how excited he is about the Bucs’ “new pieces.”

Joe Baker speaking positive here not negative. Of course he wants the team to treat Vea right and he is spot on for the analysis. I will point the finger at the Glazers here. They want to wait and see how the team does. Well start by paying two of the best on the team. I don’t see any Coach worth their salt not wanting both Baker and Vea. If you are that worried about your present Coach then fix that problem. That’s how you address that. Otherwise it appears the team is running scared of its Coach but afraid to address the issue.
The team and the fans need both Baker and Vea as would a new Coach.
Shame on the Glazers at this point!!!

I honestly think Pat Kirwan’s theory that the Glazers are holding everything up is probably pretty close to the truth. Why sink money into a team that you’re one bad season away from declaring is in a full rebuild?

This is one of the things that ticks me off about these players. There is a salary cap in play and they all want to maximizing their individual contract while at the same time saying they should also be able to afford to pay all the other talent on the team top dollar. The math doesn’t math. There is a reason why Brady was never the top paid QB and constantly took discounts. There is give and take. Do you as a QB, the highest paid player on the team, want to take less but have better players around you, or maximize your value but have a worse team? You can’t have both if your Baker

Godwin = 38mil this year. We’re stuck with it and that’s why we can’t pay both Vea and Mayfield. Trade Vea and get the best you can. Clear his cap and sign Baker. Draft David Stone next year and you have your NT that’s not so overweight that he can’t play a full load.

DAVENPORT; Your right, how dare Baker stick up for a capt on the defense and show love and support! What a tool to want to provide unity in the locker room. I’m sure Vita was livid that Baker looked out for him, and the rest of the defense is probably equally pissed off he backed one of their own! Couldn’t have said it better myself my man
