About The Baker Mayfield MCL, PCL Sprains
July 14th, 2026
Quarterback dropped on Netflix today and Baker Mayfield is one of the four NFL QB stars of the show. Fun!
Mayfield says in the documentary he sprained important knee parts (MCL and PCL) in Week 2 against the Texans. The when and how of the injury appears to be spelled out on video.
ProFootballTalk.com and some local media have made a meal out of the Mayfield comments. Mayfield wasn’t on the Tampa Bay injury report in Week 3 with a knee injury, and some are claiming that knee issue affected Mayfield all season.
Joe has to pump the brakes on all the hoopla. Players get banged up all the time. Is it really so hard to believe a player couldn’t have a sprain and be fine for practice a few days later? Not only is that common (some players return in the same game), it’s largely expected.
Joe’s not seeing evidence on the game film that Mayfield’s knee affected him all season long. At times, sure. But Mayfield was solid against the Jets in Week 3, including a key 33-yard run in the fourth quarter. And on the following drive, Mayfield led the game-winning charge.
If every player reported every minor injury, then injury lists across the NFL routinely would be 25 names long, and longer than that come December. That’s not the case.

He was on the injury report. Seems like a pretty tough guy to me but sounds like you think his injuries were the equivalent of a hangnail.

Baker of house Mayfield sustained many injuries when mired in pitched battle against a barbarians horde whilst traveling across the vast landscape of the empire.
Despite his immeasurable talents and intangibles he could not hold back his foes in seven of the final nine confrontations and managed to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory.
For this failed attempt at ultimate victory he now is demanding a kings ransom in order to provide many feasts and banquets for his bloodline to endure well beyond his many drudgeries.
The peasant colony that breathlessly follows his every movement with anxious anticipation will rally to his defense in the face of any fool hearty detractors who point out easily found flaws in his quiver of arrows.
Fear not for he is protected by the greatest general in history, Todd of house Bowles. Protector of the realm and master of all defensive capabilities known to man kind.
July 14th, 2026 at 5:18 pm
A player with multiple aches and pains which one might consider minor in nature seems to be the norm for most NFL players. Regardless, the effect of injury is two fold with the mental aspect as severe and lasting as the physical. From the outside looking in, as the season progressed, Baker’s mental judgment was stressed as much as his physical!

That Texans game was absolutely brutal.
July 14th, 2026 at 5:37 pm
This is crazy when Jamies played injured no one cared but now all of sudden injuries matter lol 😆. I told all of you when Winston was here you guys give excuses only to the players you guys like lol 😆. You guys push narratives not facts. So what’s going to happen this year if he plays the same way more excuses? It’s amazing to me all of that in no surgery on none of the injuries. Josh Allen played with a broken foot and still got to the second round playoffs and he actually had surgery. This ain’t nothing but excuses for Baker but you know what yeah resign him that way ain’t no more excuses he has to put up or shut up. And injuries ain’t going to be a good enough excuse for Baker. I still believe if Baker was a black quarterback injuries will not be a good excuse for most of yall on here.

He was beat to hell most games and when he didn’t get beat to hell he wouldn’t slide to try to get 5 extra yard,,, it’s admirable but stupid!! 2 weeks with the Rays to learn sliding styles (there are more than one) ,,, this guy was in the blue tent more than the Orkin man,,, my god Baker protect yourself and live to fight another day….. what about the couple of times he got stopped (by multiple defenders ) and was bent back where his cleats touched the back of his head . Brady threw the ball in the dirt how many times (smartly) to avoid getting crushed ,,, the problem is that if Baker threw the ball in the dirt every time there was quick pressure last year that would have been about 40% of the drop backs (and I’m being generous )
July 14th, 2026 at 6:00 pm
IIRC the Belichicks were known for having the longest injury list in the League. Most every player was on it most every week.
July 14th, 2026 at 6:07 pm
Josh allen was just ranked #1 qb in the league for 2026 by coaches, scouts and executives. Baker threw for more yards and touchdowns than Josh the last 2 years and only 1 more int than Josh allen last year in what people around here are calling a bad year, the he has been right there with Josh allens #s all 3 years he has been here with the exception of rushing yards but and all that with a different oc every year and 2 first time play callers,I like canales but he wasn’t very creative. Here we are talking about whether to pay him or not, Baker has never used injuries as an excuse, he’s a football player it’s part of the game.Time to pay him reasonably and let’s move on

If you go to the doctor for a surgery, and the doctor botched your surgery because he did the procedure with pain in his shoulder and back, would you congratulate him? Would you recommend him for a raise and extension?
More and more excuses. As Joe mentioned, go back and watch the lowlights from the last 9 games of last season and he doesn’t look injured. No wincing or limping outside of the Rams game. Maybe those NFL painkillers are top notch.
How is mentioning his injuries supposed to help him get more money and a longer deal? Why would you dedicate $50+ mil annually (15%+ of the cap) to a 30+ oft-injured player that doesn’t want to change his playstyle to stay healthy?
He’s the best question: how is Baker sacrificing his body in this manner helping the TEAM win games?
July 14th, 2026 at 6:50 pm
@Joe,
“Joe’s not seeing evidence on the game film that Mayfield’s knee affected him all season long.”
I am not sure if Joe is saying that he never saw an issue with the knee at any time during the season, or if Joe is saying that he did not see a consistent effect week to week.
Having wrecked a knee playing sandlot football decades ago when surgical repairs were an iffy option only for elite athletes, which I was not, I can tell Joe that the effects can vary tremendously from week to week and even play to play.
I could run a mile every evening and then play a couple of hours of racket ball for weeks at a time and just ache a bit. But, one bad step off a curb, and the knee would be swollen and stiff until I kept it iced and elevated for several days.
There were a lot of mentions of Baker’s decrease in accuracy passing the ball. Baker has been upheld as an exemplar of someone who can roll left and then whip his feet into the proper position to deliver a rocket on target downfield.
But, from my experience, one throwing rep can feel great, and the next can feel like there is an electric shock in your knee as the stabilizing muscles for the knee suddenly feel like cooked spaghetti noodles rather than any kind of muscle. And, when your base does that, you are just arming it and the throw can go anywhere. And, the next rep may be fine if you somehow stay off of the tiny spot that triggers that feeling like an electric shock.
I don’t think anyone can rule those things out by watching film.
Hopefully, Baker rested and received excellent treatment followed by great strengthening and conditioning.
And, hopefully, the play calling and health of the other players will allow for the type of consistently successful plays on offense that Baker will trust the squad enough to throw the ball away when he needs to and give the next play a shot while still making some designed runs and burning defenses that do not maintain containment when rushing him.

@ Wyoming Joe Says: ‘PAY THE MAN!”
You people continue saying THIS, even when you already know that THEY ARE PAYING HIM. PLUS, there is a deal that is ON THE TABLE. If YOU were a true “BUCS FAN” (and wanted Baker to be your QB), then YOU would TELL HIM to just sign the freaking deal. It’s all pretty simple. There IS A DEAL. THEY HAVE ‘committed’ to HIM… It is BAKER, who has REFUSED to sign-it. And, he’s real lucky to have even gotten THAT, being 32-years old (when the deal begins), and with ALL of THOSE “injuries.” Especially, when HE is always HURT. It’s the story of HIS entire career. Reckless, and extremely inconsistent. Also, unfocused and distracted with all the WRONG things. Hell, HE IS a walking distraction. The deal the Bucs offered was more than fair. He’s an ‘undersized’ 32-year old Quarterback, who has been on at least 4-different TEAMS. NO ONE gets a true 4-year deal, in HIS situation. He’s NOT worth-it anyway. So, ENOUGH with this “Pay Him Now” BS. They already ARE. He is under CONTRACT. AND, has an offer on the table, that is only awaiting HIS signature. He should be grateful for it!!!!
July 14th, 2026 at 7:12 pm
It’s almost as if 2-7 was really 7-2 and the 8-9 finale was actually 13-4.
And we beat the eventual SB champs in the regular season.
That means we actually were the winner of the SB in 2025.
See how that works? Simple. Done.
That’s how this organization seems to be operating under an assumption of success.
Despite what the scoreboard tells us. Participation trophies for everyone!!!
July 14th, 2026 at 7:13 pm
The Bucs should hold the line. He’s not going ANYWHERE. They are only bidding against THEMSELVES, in this current situation. Otherwise, you just ‘play-out’ the season… If HE refuses to sign-it! Cause, that’s all ON HIM then… They gave him a chance with a more than fair deal, for EVERYONE. You literally have NOTHING to lose. If HE wants to try being GREEDY… Then, so be it. Pigs get FAT. Hogs get SLAUGHTERED. The Bucs FO should be completely fine with that.
July 14th, 2026 at 8:18 pm
@ Bee Says: “How is mentioning his injuries supposed to help him get more money and a longer deal? Why would you dedicate $50+ mil annually (15%+ of the cap) to a 30+ oft-injured player that doesn’t want to change his playstyle to stay healthy?”
ALL of this is exactly, what I have been saying, all along (makes absolutely no sense)!!!! And, HE didn’t ‘look’ anymore injured/hurt than any other QB did, who was still playing by Week-18 of the season. Hell, Josh Allen was literally struggling to walk around ON CRUTCHES the very next day, after HIS season had ended… And, he didn’t look great doing it either. It’s just ALWAYS DRAMA with Baker. All created HIMSELF. Another reason to be VERY careful, if you are the Bucs FO. He looked SO SKINNY (and tiny) at that golf tournament the other day! Then, I saw Jameis today, after the France vs Spain Match… And, HE LOOKED SO HUGE standing up there with Donovan and those other two guys!!!! He actually looked really good. Very FIT. Baker is just a little pipsqueak. Again, like I said at the time… He Looked Fine To Me. It is a HUGE RISK for the Bucs to ‘bet on’ a little guy, who has to TRY TOO HARD. Everything is a constant STRUGGLE. Nothing just comes easy for HIM.
And, another thing… The excuse-makers kept on with this whole “O-Line” EXCUSE, when I saw a ‘clean pocket’ (cleaner than most), & with PLENTY of time to throw, the majority of the time. The ‘reality’ was a whole lot more like, he was holding onto the BALL for way too LONG. And, HE couldn’t read the defenses pre-snap, was unprepared, distracted, and missed wipe-open receivers, or just never SEEING THEM in the first place. I have NEVER seen a certain group of fans like this before, make EVERY EXCUSE imaginable, for ANY ‘ONE’ single-player… EVER. It’s UNREAL.They ALL hold “HIM” to a completely ‘different’ standard, than they do with ANYONE ELSE. It’s mind-boggling. For a player, who has NEVER actually DONE ‘ANYTHING’ BEFORE!? Following HIM AROUND. I mean, they could not care ANY LESS about the “BUCS.” It’s some weird stuff.
July 14th, 2026 at 8:26 pm
Cant believe some racist idiot in here is pulling the “if he was black” card. Go away you freaking moron.
Winston was bum because he threw the ball to the other team too much. Not because he was black.
I’m far from a Baker apologist and dont think he should be paid until he plays the season out. But saying anyone in here defends Baker because he’s white is about the most racist and ridiculous take I’ve heard since Black Lives Matter.
You should be banned for calling out football fans for being racist.

I’ve seen lots of fairly racist posts on here.
Yours wins for lately, fanofdabucs.
It’s true Baker is a much better QB than Jameis was because of interceptions though- I’ll give you that much. The rest of your post is canted towards incredible inaccuracy. Hopefully the Joes remove it. Enough of the political talk already.
And sign Baker! Right now. Give him at least close to what he wants, he’s certainly worth it.

July 14th, 2026 at 9:12 pm
Stats do not matter when you are not playing. Other than NFL teams lose when their franchise QB is not playing. Let’s compare performance, weapons and play time. And team results.
Last 3 years (W-L, #regseasongames, #playoffgames, #playoff wins, ,QBRtg)
Baker Mayfield 27-24, 49, 3, 1, 97.3
Joe Burrows: 19-16, 35, 0, 0, 100.07
*** Bengals were 24-27 as a team last 3 seasons
3 playoff games and 1 playoff victory versus nothing. Not missing a game all 3 seasons versus missing 14 games (almost 5 games per season lost). Slightly worse QBR with significantly worse weapons.
Ja’Marr Chase $40M APY, Higgins $29M APY, Gesicki $9M APY
Evans $26M APY, Godwin $22M APY, Otton $10M APY
Evans/Godwin last 3 years combined missed games 31.
Chase/Higgins last 3 years combined missed games 15.
I think the Bucs got their money’s worth from Baker and the Bengals did not get their money for Burrows. Baker plays hurt or not, he still compares very well even though he had older more injury prone weapons. Baker plays hurt because he knows franchise QB playtime is a strong correlation to team success.
Just putting things in perspective.

WONDERFUL. Junior just got drilled in the freaking HAND and went STRAIGHT to the dugout/clubhouse. Of course, HE DID. As soon as I left the house, too… Listening on the radio, and YOU COULD HEAR-IT!!!! SO LOUD. Sounded HORRIBLE. It’s unbelievable. I said just earlier today, that we’ll be REAL LUCKY (with our luck), just to get outta this All-Star Game with NO INJURIES. I fricking KNEW that ‘somebody’ would get INJURED. It sounded SO AWFUL, and then STRAIGHT to the dugout too, they said on the radio. It’s SO typical, it makes it UNBELIEVABLE.

Bee has been a Traskie ever since Baker arrived and was named starter. Go back to August 2023 and see all his posts.
Oniel can’t even remember how to spell his name . Oniel, go back and see your comments in 2023 and 2025.One you said he was to injured to be playing. Now you keep crying to draft a QB but you said ” I told y’all this team would never develop a QB. Trask was a wasted pick”. Going back is great. You can see all the people that made sure to profess it was Bowles and the battered offensive line along with a terrible defense for the disaster in 2025. Now they it all on Baker. Many have changed names
July 14th, 2026 at 9:53 pm
Melvin, I never said he was better than Josh allen or I would rather have him over josh,we don’t have Josh allen. Just mentioned the numbers. If you think we are better off without him or that he doesn’t deserve a new contract then you are stupid.
July 14th, 2026 at 10:20 pm
Mayfield came to early camp healed and in-shape. Our O-line did the same. If the O-line stays relatively healthy this season, Baker won’t have to put life and limb at risk to win.
But forget about anybody convincing him to not compete the way he does from week to week. That’s not going to happen. It’s a fundamental aspect of his character.
In my opinion, off-season training — or lack thereof — was an issue in the approach of the season last year, evidenced by so many early injuries. I’m hoping that a lot of players learned a lesson from that.

Im thinking they did, exBrowns. Everyone looks very in-shape so far. Mauch looks monstrous and like 3 inches wider at the shoulders… Can’t wait to see him pasting DT’s this year in the run game. Man was he missed!
And both Goedeke and Wirfs look fit, trim, and strong.
July 14th, 2026 at 10:40 pm
Fans. Lol 😆 I can see you are hurt as well but it’s the truth and I stand on it with facts. Baker has gotten every pass and excuses for his play on the field. He’s thrown picks that has lost games and yet he gets a pass . And I know how some of these people feel about black quarterbacks . And if the shoe fits ware it if not shut up it must bother you because you’re mad lol 😆 🤣

July 14th, 2026 at 10:49 pm
Geno. And that was before AB Gronk and Fournett came and what happened in 2022 when he played with the same team without AB and Gronk he played just like he did in New England his last year and Byron Leftwich was the scapegoat because of Brady bad play . Lol 😆 so yes Bruce Aeirans was the problem that’s why Brady even said let’s win another way and the no risk it no biscuit was over.. lol 😆 😆
July 14th, 2026 at 10:53 pm
Browns fan. I will always root for my bucs even with this average quarterback. But I know who you rooting for and it ain’t the bucs you rooting for Baker and the Cleveland Browns. You ain’t no different from the Brady fans and just like I said about them you will be gone as soon as Baker is gone just like the Brady fans.
July 14th, 2026 at 11:05 pm
This has to do with injury reports and why the Bucs didn’t report it. The NFL is sadly super tied into the gambling crowd and not reporting injuries affects odds, both teamwise and individual player props.
The Bucs could lose draft picks if they don’t report injuries.
Of course, the Bucs can also claim that Baker never said a thing about it to them, which if you watch the series, is completely believable considering, like many NFL players, Baker says he would never want to sit out a game or two, which is what very well might have happened if the team knew he was injured (see Jaden Daniels in the same series).
July 14th, 2026 at 11:08 pm
Oneilbuc: I’m rooting for “Baker and the Cleveland Browns”? That makes a lot of sense — not surprising coming out of you. Do yourself a favor and pull your head out of your butt. You’ll be able to see more clearly.

Onielbuc……Baker is a decent QB. Great…No. But to even bring up Jameis, enough already. I hope the best for Jameis in his day to day life. Baker has been better than Jameis as a Buc. Again is Baker a great QB? No. He is good and sometimes really good, but overall, he has never hit the level of consistency needed to win a championship. Maybe he will, and maybe he wont. But 1 thing is for sure, he has been better as a Buc QB than Jameis was. I have been a Fl State fan since 1979, I like Jameis, I enjoyed the National Title he led the Noles to against Auburn. But as far as the Bucs are concerned, Baker has been better than Jameis on the field, and without the extra crap that Jameis would get into off the field.

July 15th, 2026 at 6:31 am
Slept. Baker needs to go to a team that’s ready to win a superbowl where all he has to do is mange the game. The bucs don’t have a superbowl roster this is a up and coming roster that’s why they’re so young on offense and getting young on defense. The money they pay Baker they can use it on building the roster. It’s 8 quarterbacks coming out in this draft and this could be the first time they can draft a quarterback and actually have pieces around him to develop. In the past when they drafted quarterbacks it was always the guy came in and had nothing around him . This is why it’s the perfect time now especially if Bowles is gone next year because the new HC is going to want a young quarterback .

Seriously? Scraped my knee yesterday. Does that go on the injury report? People making this an issue never played sports of any kind me thinks. Hard to take them seriously. I could see Baker limping after plays and knew immediately that if it were serious he was not likely to continue to the huddle.
Go Bucs!
