Sack Summit Wraps Up Education For Rueben Bain, Calijah Kancey And David Walker
July 11th, 2026A year ago, Bucs edge rusher YaYa Diaby attended the Von Miller/Maxx Crosby Sack Summit and came away enlightened.
Diaby explained how he learned about using his eyes as a rusher and being patient.
Today, the Sack Summit wrapped up its annual three-day affair and new graduates are Buccaneers Rueben Bain, the Miami Mauler rookie edge rusher, Calijah Kancey and David Walker. Diaby was home in Tampa working with kids.
The traveling Bucs trio learned from the likes of Lawrence Taylor, Willie McGinest and Brian Baldinger, along with co-hosts Crosby, Miller and Cameron Jordan, among others. They went through drills, film sessions and all kind of on- and off-field study and networking.
Joe was very pleased to hear of the attendance. (Where was Chris Braswell?)

NO BRASWELL…SHOCKING

It seems Braswell does not love football, but it doesn’t matter, he’ll be cut after training camp.

That’s a who’s-who of teachers!
Ideally, our trio of grads picked up a lot of new knowledge and information, and apply it this fall.
Let’s let Rueben rush, and again ideally, Calijah and David stay healthy.

I give them all credit for trying to get better.
Braswell. What a disappointment. Who knows, maybe this is the year. Last chance.
Looking forward to seeing David Walker. Imagine if he is anywhere near close to what the hype was. A healthy Kancey all season. Bain playing anywhere as close to as he did last year at UM.
Zyon might be less bored.

Kancey was a huge loss for this defense last year.
Really hoping Calijah can stay healthy all year.
The Bucs have 4 talented pass rushers coming into this season that weren’t here or available in 2025 (Kancey, Bain, AQM and Walker).
I expect to see a vastly improved pass rush and wouldn’t be at all surprised if the Bucs reach 50+ sacks this year for the first time in Bowles tenure…
The CBs that so many seem worried about are going to look solid at worst if we can get a consistent pass rush this year….

Brasswell roll tide!

Good to see our attendees.
Too bad about Braswell…. He seems to be accepting he’s going to be mediocre. Loss of confidence takes a LOT of work to overcome. Wonder if there’s going to be a trade available for a decent CB, Safety, or ILB depth.
The good news is we have OLBs that are eager to learn and ready to make an impact 👍🏼

Wonder how much work they put in honing their coverage skills dropping into Todd’s soft, empty zones. They need to be coached up on “the other things.”

Braswell=JTS=reason JL needs to go!

Pickgrin … ‘The Bucs have 4 talented pass rushers coming into this season that weren’t here or available in 2025 (Kancey, Bain, AQM and Walker).’
Agree wholeheartedly on those 4, but don’t go to sleep yet on Robinson, RNR & Capehart. I know they have to patrol ‘the middle ground’ & protect their gaps, but any 1 of those (or all of them) could very well surprise us in terms of their pass rush potential.
A’Shawn doesn’t have a long history of getting mega-sacks, but just 1 year ago in 2024 he got 5.5 sacks with Carolina (only 2.5 last year though).
RNR’s never big a big sack artist, but he did get 3 sacks with the Giants last year (and 2 the year before that). Not a huge amount obviously, but they all help.
Capehart MAY be a sleeper, but I kinda doubt he’ll get a huge amount of def snaps this season unless someone gets hurt. He’s older and played college ball from 2020-2025 (that’s a LOOONG time). Did manage to play in 57 games (wow) with 12 starts, getting a total of 3 sacks, 13.5 TFL, 1 FF, and 88 tackles. Nice size (6’5″ & 315 lbs) but I don’t expect that he’ll get to make much of a contribution, this year at least.

BucsfaninOregon Says:
“Braswell=JTS=reason JL needs to go!”
Is that so? Well – in roughly the same time frame – Goedeke + Otton + YaYa + Mauch + Kancey + Bucky + JMac + Tykee Smith + Barton + Tez in the 7th! + Walker + Parrish + Egbuka + Bain and the entire ’26 draft class + previously building a Super Bowl winning roster = JL sticking around for at least another 1/2 dozen or more years…..
