New Voice Of Bucs Selected

June 23rd, 2026

New voice of the Bucs Tony Castricone.

Gene Deckerhoff’s replacement is now on board.

The Bucs selected University of Washington football and basketball play-by-play man Tony Castricone to replace the retired Deckerhoff.

Castricone also was previously the voice of Clemson Tigers.

It appears, per the Bucs release, Castricone won’t be flying ridiculous times commuting from Huskies games to Bucs games. Castricone also will move to Florida and work with the Bucs video production team and make appearances.

Joe had heard through a very reliable national media source the position came down to current Bucs sideline reporter T.J.Rives and Castricone. In the past, Rives called a few Bucs games when Deckerhoff wasn’t available and did a really good job on short notice, which is not easy.

Joe is surprised Rives did not get the job. He’s been a loyal soldier for decades.

Stinks for TJ. Curious too why he didn’t get the job

  2. BUCNNOLE Says:

Would have been cool if TJ Reeves would have been selected.

  3. Buc1987 Says:

I’m going to miss touchdown Tampa Bay, touchdown Tampa Bay!

    No he dropped it.

  4. Jack Burton Mercer Says:

I not familiar enough with TJ. Perhaps Castricone is younger and they are looking for someone to stay long term?

  5. Joaquim Valente Says:

TJ was an absolute bore listening to the games he worked on. Idk how someone presents a weird sense of urgency with such a monotone delivery but he does it lol.

  6. buc4evr Says:

Seriously, I fail to understand why TJ wasn’t given the chance? The guy was a great announcer and a total Buc homer. Kind of sucks to be honest. Wonder whose cereal he pissed in? lol.

  7. OLDSCHOOL1976 Says:

TJ has been in the area for a long time. The new guys knows nothing about Bucs football history. Here’s to more hoping it turns out well.

  8. Hawk Says:

They kept Bowles but passed on TJ. (cue the Twilight Zone music)

  9. buc4evr Says:

Btw,I was listening to Tony C on youtube. I can’t stand the guys voice.

  10. SB~LV 🏈 Says:

    🤣
Love that insufferable TJ did get the job!

  11. Fire The Cannons & Fire Todd Says:

TJ is a bore, hopefully the new guy is better for Pro Football than college sports

  12. BucsFan81 Says:

You can’t really replace Gene he is one of a kind.

  13. Crickett Baker Says:

I’m perplexed, too, but maybe TJ just didn’t want the job.

  14. donuts Says:

Its gonna be so weird not hearing Gene. I have spent 30 years with the TV volume off and listening to Gene on my little radio.

  15. 3.28.Evans Says:

    Never going to replace Gene.

No Gene, no Mike, no Lavonte. Soon no Vita.

But at least we still have the Genis.

  16. 3.28.Evans Says:

It’s ok, at least they kept the universal cure for insomnia. Dave Moore will still be putting fans to sleep with his most boring of all commentary.

  17. D-Rome Says:

What’s up with the Bucs and their relationship with the University of Washington? Otton, McMillan, Vea, ASJ, JTS, Daniel Te’o-Nesheim, and I’m probably forgetting a few others.

  18. johnnythemoon Says:

Bucs hate local people much better to get someone on the cheap that has no Bucs love.

  19. SB~LV 🏈 Says:

    Mark Champion and Jesse Ventura

  20. BuccaDawg Says:

I really thought TJ would get that gig. Too bad but I hope the guy is good

  21. BuccaDawg Says:

I really thought TJ would get that gig. Too bad but I hope the guy is good. Maybe they didn’t want to hear him brag about golf

  22. Hodad Says:

Who listens to the radio anyway?

  23. LynchMob50 Says:

I hope they have Gene back a few times as a guest.

He was the absolute best announcer.

The passion he had could be felt through the air waves.

    Really going to miss him.

    Alstott up the gut!!!!!

  24. Megoat13 Says:

Without hearing this guys play by play I’ll admit I’m biased and TJ should’ve got the job in my opinion

  25. MelvinJunior Says:

@ Hodad – Yeah. It’s only good for emergencies (even then, nowadays, you have your Spectrum App right on your iPad and phone)… And, postgame commentary, press conferences, and pissed off fans calling in after a bad loss. Otherwise, it’s not going to make a bit of difference. It would be nice having a big name, well known, veteran somebody, who wanted to semi retire. Like, a Chris Myers. Someone with TONS of experience calling MAJOR events over the past several decades for a MAJOR network, and who has TONS of close contacts with some of the most MAJOR players throughout the entire industry, and sports world. Actually, him and Ronde would be a POWER TEAM for the Bucs on the radio. You probably couldn’t do any better that that!!!!

  26. 3.28.Evans Says:

    ALSTOTT UP THE GUT!

  27. WillieG Says:

I just played a short clip of him on YouTube. I think he’ll be good. He would be my choice over TJ. Hopefully he becomes a fan fast and his play by play reflects that.

  28. Steve V Says:

Lynch! I’m proud of you! What kind words,ik ew you had it in you!!

  29. Vorblaw Says:

Well based on the UW 247 network message board, they seem sad to see him leave but excited for his new opportunity so he mus be well liked over there.

  30. HC Grover Says:

Sad news I was hoping for someone like Dek since I will only get radio coverage this year.

  31. HC Grover Says:

I cheked Utube too. He don’t sound too bad at all. He could go all the way. A Cosell Jr.

  32. TomMoore4President2028 Says:

From the clips I’ve heard of this guy, I was pleasantly surprised. His excitement felt real

  33. Oxycondomns Says:

    Its Blocked!

I miss Gene but it reminded of Harry Carey’s final years, it could be it could be and the ball is rolling around in the outfield
