Chris Godwin: Bucs Offense Is 50 Percent New

June 6th, 2026

Many Bucs fans have smiled and said the 2026 Bucs offense should hit the ground running with new coordinator Zac Robinson because it’ll look exactly like Liam Coen’s electric 2024 system.

Not quite.

Robinson has his own mind, and his own ideas and concepts. Coen and Robinson are from the Sean McVay coaching tree — and they’re best buddies — but they don’t operate with identical playbooks.

Speaking this week, 10-year Bucs receiver Chris Godwin said Robinson’s offense is 50 percent like Coen’s.

“It might be like 50-50 carryover from Liam’s scheme. Like, you know, at it’s base, it’s the same thing,” Godwin said.

That’s probably not the 70 or 80 percent ratio a lot fans would have guessed as it relates to Robinson and Coen running similar schemes.

Godwin praised Robinson’s ability to teach and the confidence with which he teaches, and “how open he is to collaboration from players.”

Yes, there is another learning curve for the Bucs offense, but that shouldn’t be an issue/excuse. The offense had much more of an adjustment when Coen arrived in 2024 than it does today, and it hummed right away. The Bucs averaged 29.7 points per game through the first six weeks of the ’24 season.

Bowles will make certain it will look like 2022. Byron’s brilliance.

Lol…why does everyone keep mentioning Liam’s scheme? Hes the HC for another team. Does Robinson have his own offensive identity? How did that Liam scheme work in the playoffs for the Bucs and Jags? Smh…the Bucs are always looking back and never forward. Pathetic.

I may be wrong here but something I find interesting at week 10 under offensive coordinator Liam Coen the Bucs were 4-6. Losing against Denver, Falcons, Ravens, Falcons (again), Chiefs, 49ers then rebounding only to score 20 points in a wildcard loss to Washington. At week 10 under offensive coordinator Josh Grizzard Tampa was 7-3.

Coen just seemed to have creative plays with people open in space. Grizzard’s offense seemed like a struggle to get a first down.

McVay had great success running a 3 TE offense last year so I hope Zac takes a look at Seans’ plays. We’ve already heard from Cody that there’s going to be more wide zone this year. It’s going to be interesting to see Ted Hurst’s progression and use. He should be a deep target with his combination of speed and physicality. Will he get many snaps and targets early in the year? I’m looking forward to Joe’s training camp reports.

It is the 328. Nothing else matters

“Lol…why does everyone keep mentioning Liam’s scheme? Hes the HC for another team. Does Robinson have his own offensive identity?“

Because they’re lazy, and they think everyone who worked for McVay runs McVays’ scheme when in reality, they’re all(McVay included) running Mike Shannahans’ zone run scheme and throwing in more modern pass concepts/tactics to which feints innovation.

  8. Allen Lofton Says:

Robinson’s offense similarity to Coen’s offense is great news for the Bucs. The learning curve is good news for the veterans. Having a established play caller should make the Bucs season favorites for their devision.

Injuries eliminated last year’s Bucs. This is a new season so expectations should be higher. It’s on Todd Bowles to make it a reality. Staying healthy is equally important. Last year is behind us. It’s good that expectations are high in house. Positivity mentality could add a few more wins for the Bucs.
