Bucs Legend Laughs At Todd Bowles Haters

May 26th, 2026

Bucs Super Bowl MVP has Todd Bowles’ back.

The very first Super Bowl MVP in Bucs history is solidly behind Bucs coach Todd Bowles. And whenever he reads social media posts or hears someone blasting Bowles on sports radio, this man gets a good chuckle.

That man would be the good Dexter Jackson, MVP of the Bucs’ first Super Bowl win for the 2002 season. In a sitdown with the gambling site Betway.com, Jackson openly mocked the Bowles haters and gave props to Team Glazer for not caving to the loud crowd.

Todd Bowles has received criticism, and many fans think he will be on the hot seat as soon as the 2026 NFL Regular Season starts. What are your thoughts on this?

I laugh whenever people say things like this about Coach Todd Bowles. He’s been head coach for four seasons and won the NFC South in three of those seasons. There are teams in the NFL who haven’t won in years and are desperate for just one division championship.

Because of the ‘microwave’ world we live in, people want championships right now. They don’t understand the process. They don’t understand what it takes to be a successful team. …

But I believe the Buccaneers do have strong ownership in the Glazer family. They understand the game. They understand that they can’t let fans’ chirping lead to them losing a good football coach.

Jackson did seem to confess if Team Glazer thought there was a better option than Bowles available, maybe they would have replaced him. But Jackson was adamant that Bowles is a good coach.

The Bucs focusing on the front-seven on defense this offseason was a major positive, per Jackson. He said he learned playing with the Bucs that a good defense starts with the trenches. So like loved the Bucs drafting Rueben Bain and thinks he will be a really strong addition. And while he said Lavonte David is a major loss, Jackson likes the players Bucs AC/DC-loving general manager Jason Licht brought in.

We will see how patient Team Glazer is this year if things go south.

While Joe is highly confident Bowles will finish the season — Team Glazer has never made a midseason coaching change and Joe doesn’t like betting against never — the fact is the only coach Team Glazer has retained after two straight years losing seasons and no playoff berth has been Chucky.

And remember, Chucky got the Bucs a Super Bowl win, so he had a little more rope to play with than most other mere mortals coaching the Tampa Bay.

Winning the south isnt good enough. Period. Look at those win loss records. It screams mediocre.

  2. Leopold Stotch Says:

The criticism of Bowles is warranted, unfortunately, for his defenders. When you’re a defensive “guru” and your scheme gets picked apart by quarterbacks who are bad to mediocre constantly, you’re gonna get haters. I will give him credit for not completely turtling anymore like his first year, but the defense being what it is is still unacceptable

  3. Dale W Says:

    3rd and 28.

    7-9
    10-7
    9-8
    8-9

Mike Evans gone for less money just to get away from him

But please, go ahead and tell me how great a coach Todd Bowles is

  4. TBBucFan Says:

Love me some DJ. So TB has been the HC during a run where offense was the focus while the team was going through salary cap purgatory and all he’s done is win division titles. Sure some capital has been spent on defense and the results aren’t there. Is that all on coaching? Show me where the castoffs have had success elsewhere. Joe can say that Todd’s scheme messed with their heads all he wants but that’s just Monday morning quarterbacking. If these new bullies don’t work out for Bowles then there’s no other choice to make. But for now I’m excited and eager to see how it all works out. I’m firmly with Dexter on this one.

  5. Smoke Porterhouse Says:

Bowles made Kirk Cousins look like Joe Montana in his prime the last 2 years. Cousins looked like Kyle Trask vs. the rest of the league. I guess Dexter didn’t watch those games.

  6. Hodad Says:

Biggest knock has to be his 1-3 playoff record. Another 9-8, 8-9 record with no playoff wins, sorry he needs to be gone.

  7. Permanently Moderated Says:

Would he be laughing if he was still on the team? If you’re content with running in the middle of the pack and not leading, so be it. Just don’t thumb your nose at people who don’t.

  8. Bucsarg Says:

The Glazers have owned the bucs since 1995.
Jason has been GM since 2014.
Todd has been head coach since 2022. He was DC in the Bucs best 2 years in the last 14.
Todd averages 8 losses as head coach, all in 17 game seasons.
The 10 years before Todd which includes Bradys two good years with, the bucs averaged 10.2 losses. Most of those years were 16 game seasons.
Glazers and Jason perform better with Todd than without Todd. What was their role in last years collapse? Perhaps that is why Todd is still here. Perhaps there are other factors than Todd holding the Bucs back. Be careful what you wish for.

  9. Allen Lofton Says:

Amen Bucsarg. Todd Bowles was head coach of the New York Jets, the most dysfunctional franchise in the NFL Only God can turn around that franchise.

  10. Darin Says:

The same “process” Liam Coen and Dave Canales just did in no time with non playoff teams? Bowles.was left a playoff team and had gotten worse. He’s a man without accountability. He will never amount

  11. Ron Mexico Says:

Winning the weakest division in the NFL doesn’t matter; it should be a given.

Bowles’ results are not good enough. Period.

That said, I’ll support the team as usual this season and hope Bowles proves me wrong. Go Bucs!

  12. OLDSCHOOL1976 Says:

Currently winning the south division is like kissing your sister. Nobody respects you. Couple that with a .500 winning percentage plus not doing much in the playoffs and this is why HE IS ON THE HOT SEAT. There were better coaches available but Glazers were too slow to make a decision.

  13. Kenton Smith Says:

I don’t know much. And I’m not a long time Bucs fan like most of you folks who read JBF. But to anyone here that wants to tell me we’ve had the dawgs on this defense to make Bowles successful, I’ll tell you that I know more football than you know. No team in the NFL has changed their defense like we have this offseason. None. Muhammad, Robinson, Chop, Anzalone, Rozeboom, Bain, Trotter, Scott, Capeheart, and Kancey and Walker healthy? That’s 11 roster spots and that’s some guys that’ll be competing with some attitude. Todd Bowles is gonna look like a genius when he has the players to man his front 7. Scott is the only one of these 11 players who isn’t a front 7 player, and he plays like a linebacker. Surely out of these 10 new signings we’re gonna be better? We’ll be different, that’s for sure.

  14. Stpetematt Says:

Todd is a great coach. Let’s keep making the team better for him so he can win us another Super Bowl!

  15. Stpetematt Says:

And Mike Evans didn’t run from Todd. He ran away from too much competition at his own position. He wants 10 passes per game, not 5. That’s *ALL*. So stop feeding this myth that isn’t true. He’s played for Todd for a few years and already resigned while Todd was coach. The only thing that changed was drafting Egbuka.

  16. Beeej Says:

What Matt said—he went to be a big fish in a small pond for hos last 2 years

  17. Lefty R Says:

Jackson did seem to confess if Team Glazer thought there was a better option than Bowles available, maybe they would have replaced him. But Jackson was adamant that Bowles is a good coach.

Oh Give me a break…. the Bucs are stuck with Todd Bowles because the Glazers fear the Beard aka Rooney Rule

I am sick of hearing this Todd Bowles Defense Baloney!!! It’s a Raging Dumpster Fire

Also, I watched the Raise the Flags last night, I thought it sucked!!!
Here’s why!!! They focused too much on the negative… I am sorry about Doug Williams and what happened to him, but the bright lights who produced and directed Raise the Flags focused on every negative event…. rather than the positive ….. Sure Culverhouse was a clown show by being so cheap and petty…. however there are a lot of NFL Owners that were nuts and and still nuts today!!!

    SMH

  18. Day 1-76 Says:

Just more idiocy. Apparently, we have to trust a process that only leads to mediocrity. Bowles does just enough to keep his job. He wastes talent.

  19. Bucnbeers Says:

Todd Bowles is not a motivator. His players won’t run through walls for him.
They had a coach they let slip through their fingers. Liam pumps up his players. He doesn’t rely on them to fire themselves up.

  20. #99 the big fella Says:

The anti-Bowles crowd acts like he’s 2-15 every year while ignoring division titles, playoff appearances, and the fact the team never quit on him. If the Glazers wanted him gone, he’d be gone. The constant “dumpster fire” whining is getting more exhausting than the actual defense.

And blaming Raise the Flags for showing the ugly history is hilarious — the Bucs WERE a clown show for years. That’s what makes the turnaround matter.

  21. KABucs Says:

Lefty R… It was a documentary. Basically filmed what happened. There’s some really crazy & negative stuff that happening in the bucs organization for most of that 50 years. Sure we had a decent percentage of good years but it’s probably like a 70/30 ratio of bad versus good. They can’t make a documentary about the Buccaneers and have it be 50% or more purely positive material or the whole documentary is much much shorter and focused on two super bowl periods. What happened, happened. I’m glad it wasn’t a propaganda piece, I’d rather see and learn what truly happened. And with the material they had to work with, I was impressed with how it turned out.

    BINGO!!!!

    GO BUCS!!!!

  23. Lessismore Says:

    Definition of “good” :
Generally a positive outcome, satisfactory, useful, kind, virtuous, effective…..
In other words – average. And 8-9 and 9-8 is average in a below average division and it just doesn’t put hometown fans in the seats…..

  24. Todd Says:

Just listen to what Sean McDermott and Mike Tomlin have to say about the Bucs when asked, they will both be very complimentary, because when Glazers ultimately sicken of Bowles after this season, one of those two will be your next HC-Halleleujah.

  25. LynchMob50 Says:

When you think of garbage, think of Todd Bowles!!!

After a 2-7 collapse any other coach would have been fired.

But not in this case. Not the genius defensive guru.

The Glazers have doubled down on mediocrity. They love it!

    Oh the culture!!!!! 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

  26. Warren Brooks Lynch Says:

I’ve long believed just observing pro sports and pro sport fandom, that things fans can’t explain will get put on the shoulder of the coach as the figurehead of the team.

    No different here.

Some of you, in your whiny rhetoric get to talking like Bowles is on the field putting up points and taking down ball carriers lol

  27. Bosch Says:

Todd Bowles has received criticism, and many fans think he will be on the hot seat as soon as the 2026 NFL Regular Season starts. What are your thoughts on This?

He should have no seat at all; hot, cold or otherwise.

  28. Stanglassman Says:

#99 I think you missed Lefty (ironic) main point. It’s because teams are required to consider hiring a black coach is why Bowles is so bad and the Glazers are afraid to fire him. The Culverhouse owners weren’t so bad and we need to forget about how they treated Doug Williams. That history should be whitewashed and talk about the good parts.
