When Tom Brady Called Lavonte David
April 2nd, 2026First, let’s get the most important element of this interview out of the way:
Lavonte David’s favorite cereal is Cap’n Crunch Crunch Berries.
(Joe’s never had Cap’n Crunch Crunch Berries. But for the record, regular ol’ Cap’n Crunch is elite cereal.)
So what does Cap’n Crunch Crunch Berries and David have in common? David will always associate Cap’n Crunch Crunch Berries with Tom Brady.
David did a sitdown with his former Nebraska teammate and retiredTitans linebacker Will Compton, who co-hosts “Bussin’ with the Boys” podcast along with former Titans left tackle Taylor Lewan. There, David retold the story about how he learned the Bucs signed Tom Brady.
David recalled how during his exit interview after the 2019 season, he sat down with Bucco Bruce Arians just hours after America’s Quarterback, Jameis Winston, threw his final pass for the Bucs — a pick-six to lose to Atlanta in overtime.
There, Arians told David the Bucs were likely bringing in Brady to take over for Jameis. David thought Arians was full of it and pulling his leg. He forgot all about it.
Mind you, when Arians told David this, Brady was preparing to play Lewan and the Titans in the playoffs, a game in which Brady and the Belicheats lost. Tampering, anyone?
So fast forward roughly two months later and David sat on his couch, watching BSPN, scarfing down a bowl of Crunch Berries buried in milk when he saw the crawl on the bottom of the screen alerting the world that Brady was expected to head to Tampa Bay.
David had his phone right next to him and the phone, in David’s words, immediately began “blowing up.”
Two days later, that same phone rang and David picked it up, unaware who might be calling. It was Brady. Joe will let David tell the rest of the story in the video below.
Joe believes it was on Kay Adams’ show recently that David said when he and Brady finished their chat, David said to himself, “Oh, I’m going to save that number!”

All I have to say is, Tom Brady was easy to hate for years, but just as easy to love once came to the Bucs lol. Cool story and I appreciate how Tom approached the Bucs

Tough to compare but that calendar year must be peak Bucs fandom.
Speculation and hope of signing the GOAT, then actually signing him and despite an up and down start, an incredible, magical season that culminated in the Bucs 2nd SB.
Somehow seems like 10 years ago.

Nice story. But nobody under 80 answers a phone call from an unknown number. He definitely had a head’s up Brady was calling him.

The Brady years were magical. Even when the Bucs were down in those games you just knew we had a chance. Now, a complete reversal back to crapper.

I remember that year very well I was here on this website and I called it. I said the only way Jameis doesn’t come back is if we get Tom Brady, I had said he was coming several times and everyone one on this site talked s—t. Same poster’s that change their screen names all the time. Iv been the same poster since day one.

I never believed that Brady was coming. Never been so happy to be wrong.

Wow,’when we had Real QB, and not a leprechaun, those were the days! Never heard excuses from Brady, I’m hurt, I’m hurt….. what a joke of a qb we have now….

S.F. could have won 4 Super Bowls had they had any brains in the front office.

I miss Tom throwing those deep balls on 2nd & long. Kind of miss having Scooter too.

Red pens: you are wrong. I answer every call known number or not. I like messing with scammers 🙂
Going to miss David. I remember when we drafted him. Honestly I was about done watching football after that 30 for 30 session by Winston. Then we signed Brady and I figured I suffered this long let’s keep the train moving. Glad to have witnessed both Super Bowl wins as a fan of our team.

There’s an AWEsome meme about all that.
(Brady) “I’m moving to Tampa, anyone know a good place to live?”
(Winston) “Hey Tom! I live here too! What ya gonna do here?”

No crunch berries, Joe! You haven’t lived, man.

Easy ProudBucfan, you certainly weren’t alone on this site in believing Tom would come here.
All the people here who supported Licht and thought he built a real good team at that time knew there was a chance and hoped for it. Infrastructure for Tom was in place, good OL, weapons and no glaring holes on D.
Why some of us still bat away trolls on here that claim it was all Tom give Jason no credit.

So, Lavonte answers unknown NUMBERS!? Hmmmmm… Interesting. LoL.

I agree with you Sask, we still do have a well built team and I believe the coach is the issue. We need a coach that holds players and coaches accountable.

@HeavyE,
Keep manufacturing stories bro. I guess it helps compensate for what you’re lacking. Baker has never made an excuse or even stated he was injured let alone hurting.
