Rachaad White Gets Sean Tucker Money

Former Bucs running back Rachaad White was hoping for a fat bag in free agency.
That’s not what he got. Greg Auman of FOX Sports shared that White scored only a $2 million contract from the Commanders, a one-year deal that also carries another $2 million plus incentives.
Joe can say comfortably that the White that had a conversation with Joe in Miami back in late December would have been in disbelief at only scoring a deal of this size.
White had a base salary of $3.4 million last year, the final year of his Bucs rookie contract as a third-round draft pick.
Consider that the Bucs slapped a $3.5 million restricted free agent tender for 2026 on No. 3 running back Sean Tucker, who had a small body of work. They also couged up $14 million over two years for Steelers free agent Kenny Gainwell to replace White.
Interestingly, Gainwell told WDAE radio this week that about half the NFL called him in free agency. That’s why his price tag was high. It’s a safe bet White got nowhere near the NFL around the league.

Looks like he’s being paid what he’s worth. He pouted when Bucky beat him out. Always believed he was #1 RB. He wasn’t, isn’t. Has a valuable skill set, but not what he believes.

Oh, and Mike left with class – right up to the point he was introduced with his new team. His new MVP QB. His new electrifying fan base. Took plenty of swipes at the Bucs. Revealed a different side of him. He got what he wanted. Best team. Best field. Best fans. Best front office.

Commanders got a quality RB for a drop in the bucket. They signed Jerome Ford as well, so that’s going to be an actual committee.
Does it speak to Whites ability, or is part of that due to the obvious devaluing of the position in FA.
Players don’t set their market, the people with the money do and fwiw he could’ve took less to go somewhere he wants to actually be. We all know he wanted to go play with Jayden Daniels.

No hate for white he has a good couple years especially with Coen but not used enough. He probably took that to play but where he wanted and it’s a one year deal. Mike Evans took less money and it still says a lot about this coaching staff

He chose the wrong time to leave too. Bucs had no offensive line with the injuries so he had nowhere to run to in order to get some good stats and more money in free agency. Bad luck for him.

I wonder how many carries Gainwell will get, or do the Bucs see him as a key special teams player? I don’t see the Bucs drafting a RB until rd 5 or 6, and also pick up a UDFA. In last year’s camp, Josh Williams got a lot of platitudes, but he only rushed for 2.8 ypc against the Saints in week 8. The top 3 guys seem to be set but RB4 is open.

He had 1 good year in 4. He hits the hole slow and takes awhile to get up to full speed. His ceiling is much lower than a great starting running back. Maybe a low end starting running back. There’s 30 of those guys in the league and he got paid as such.

JL killed it in FA
Didn’t over pay for these over priced, again edge rushers or one’s that were really only names without much production. He didn’t panic and cave to the need that would’ve set the franchise back in 2 years.
He upgraded and solidified the RB room and ST with Gainwell. Made sure TE would be more of a luxury pick in the draft than an immediate need. Signed a nasty DT that is a big upgrade from Hall. Added a low risk edge. Brought back the under valued Ko to help the running game.
All this without big future contracts.
The haters will bitch about not going after Crosby or caving into a 4 yr ridiculous contract for Hendrickson, but he was wise to stay away.
My only grip would be not signing another LBer like Lloyd or Bush. But it’s time to get younger at LBer and I think the add at least 1, maybe 2 in the draft.
If he can land an edge, LBer, then depth on oline/dline then a late vet FA CB, I’m very happy.

Best runner on the Bucs last year. Used right, he’s a weapon. Maybe he really should switch to slot. Extend his career and get paid more.

If he played his cards right, he’d be back here in the same role making the same, or more likely slightly better money. But he chose to pout. Seemed to lack the understanding that the only running backs that get paid are highly productive backs. Now he goes to another committee situation making rb2/3 pay with no way of knowing how he’s going to be used.

Grizz under played White. There was not enough film to justify big payday.
And times white would be the hot RB but most of the carries went to Bucky.

Perhaps his comments towards Bowles on the way out the door which, while accurate in many circles concerning Bowles effectiveness as a coordinator, might have gave other teams pause as it is not often that a player will basically throw shade on his coach and former team before he has another landing spot. Evans kind of did the same thing but waited until he got his bag before taking cracks at the team, the QB and the Tampa fan base.

White would not have signed here for that price anyway. We probably would have offered slightly more if he hadn’t slammed the door on the way out. Grizz cost him a lot of cash. Good backup NFL player. Maybe thought he was better than he is.

I agree buddy, with Godwin getting up in age and past injuries, White should’ve made a move to play slot. He has exceptional hands as a rb and can block. RBs come a dime a dozen contrary to slot receivers who are hard to find. White made a bad move. Remember, as a rookie he bragged about starting over Fournette n finally made his point. Patience is a virtual.

Good blocker and has glimpses of hope. Other than that, he really struggles to pick up 2 yards after touch with his running style. Hot cold kinda RB

I trust the Bucs Ownership, HC, GM
They have a plan in place, and they are staying the course
Rachaad White is not what they want in a RB
Kenneth Gainwell is what they want in a RB
He’s a Swiss Army Knife, Special Teams, WR, RB
They paid him for his ability to play multiple positions
White, Tucker, Bucky was a trio of RBs
Neither of them wanted to do the dirty work
They weren’t happy unless they were carrying the football
Gainwell does what they ask of him, instead of pouting
Todd Bowles has said it many times, he want versatile players
I consider Gainwell an upgrade over Rachaad White
He’s a smaller version of Cordarrelle Patterson
Players like that will always contribute, KR/PR, Punt/Kick Off

Yep I said it a bunch of them probably gave up on Bowles even during the season. There’s too much talent on the team to be playing like this & nobody is gonna want to deal with somebody who’s just stubborn & thinks what he’s doing is always right.

Him leaving isn’t about Todd. Rachaad wants to be the starting back, and Jaylen is his good friend from Arizona.

We have no back with close to Whites blocking ability. White gets punished for attitude, Griz gets rewarded for sucking, Washington gets a great deal. The only win for we Bucs fans is Griz is gone. Not firing him mid season was Todd’s biggest failure last season. All our offensive weapons will miss White’s blocking. Our offense self destructed last year and White’s attitude was and is only a symptom of the damage Grizz did.

White was a serviceable RB and a legitimate receiving threat in a system designed by an OC who was nowhere near ready to be a play caller. This is the context that hurt his value as a free agent. He was also (curiously) taken out of games for long stretches at a time with no rhyme or reason.

I watched Rachaads press conference in Washington when a reporter asked him was Washington his 1st choice destination and the look on Whites face said a million words!!! White ran out of options and Washington was the ONLY place that wanted him. HE WAS FORCED TO TAKE THE 1 YR PROVE IT DEAL and he even confessed that even thou Jayden is his best friend Washington wasn’t EXACTLY his 1st choice but it is a good spot and it all worked out for the best!! Rachaad thought he was gonna get MORE money with more teams wanting to give him a chance to be RB1 because in his mind he thinks he is better than he actually is BUT hey I hope he has a breakout season in 2026

For all you saying the guys jumped ship… what if those players were not offered a return contract? Ok Evans was… but Dean? Hall? White? What if they were fired and not given an opportunity to come back?
Our new DT Robinson stated he had a choice to go to the Bucs or 49ers, and he choose the Bucs. What’s that tell you guys? Maybe older players have respect for our HC and we needed to get the young guys off the team who aren’t smart enough to run a professional scheme

Watch the Commanches draft Love now at pick 7 in round 1 and he’ll be stuck behind a superior talent yet again. Poor choice of a landing spot by White. It makes me wonder how thin his options were.

White was lethal as a receiver out of the backfield, he seemed like a willing blocker in pass protection, and was mostly a “JAG” as a ball carrier. He can be a productive guy if used right. For the price paid the Commanders got a very good value IMO. Probably cost him some money by “keeping it real” publicly saying Todd should have turned over the DC role to someone else so he could focus on being a HC. 100% truth, but if you’re not a super star there can be consequences for calling out the fact the emperor has no clothes.
