Todd Bowles Better Hope Logan Hall Struggles In Houston

March 11th, 2026

Gone.

Joe thinks one of the best coaches in the NFL is Texans head coach DeMeco Ryans. He is way overlooked as folks rightly drool over Sean McVay, Kyle Shanahan and Kevin O’Connell, .

The former 49ers defensive coordinator and nine-year NFL linebacker (from the same hometown as Bo Jackson and America’s Quarterback, Jameis Winston), Ryans has done an excellent job in Houston.

His offense may be slipping (for a defensive head coach, this is almost expected), Texans quarterback C.J. Stroud seems to be circling the drain, but damn, Ryans knows what he is doing on defense.

Todd Bowles should pray new Texans defensive lineman Logan Hall struggles in Houston. Hall signed with Houston last night.

Joe knows a lot of Bucs fans hate Hall. Bowles groomed him in Tampa to be the next Will Gholston, primarily a blocks-eater and a run stuffer, but Gholston had some pass rush skills in him. Joe doesn’t know if Hall can rush the passer. With Bowles’ rich history of developing pass rushers, who knows?

But Hall was just fine for what he was asked to do after the Bucs drafted him in 2022. He was solid against the run and he answered the bell week in and week out.

And now the Bucs have yet another hole in the starting defense. What’s going on at One Buc Palace? Are the lights on? Are folks still so numb after losing Mike Evans they can’t function?

If Ryans is able to unlock Hall’s pass-rushing skills (if he has any), that is going to be damning for Bowles and yet another log on the fire for Bucs fans to holler about Bowles and his job security.

The most impactfult thing he did in a Bucs uniform was end Jensen’s career. Completely tanked the 22 season before it started. For a high 2nd round pick that’s awful. He was a tweener and I think Bowles messed with his head a bit on top of it. Only other play I can think of is him sacking Rodgers when we played GB that same year, but we still lost. For a second rounder to be a 4th round comparison like Will? Yeah that’s awful.

  2. Viktor Vaughn Says:

    Good riddance

  3. Hodad Says:

If Ryans uses him as a 4-3 defensive end he’ll do fine. That’s what he is, a 4-3 end, not a defensive tackle. Bowles had a square peg, in a round hole, not Hall’s fault he was only average here.

  4. Destinjohnny Says:

Another blown licht pick. Jason loves to over pay guys he drafted as he feels like resigning a guy he drafted is a feather in his cap. If he lets you go you are really bad.

  5. Destinjohnny Says:

We tide fans want Ryans as the next bama coach

  6. Defense Rules Says:

Hodad … ‘If Ryans uses him as a 4-3 defensive end he’ll do fine.’

    Exactly Hodad.

  7. Zoocomics Says:

This comparison to Gholston isn’t quite right, we’re kind of just making parallels with the size and type of player/production these guys are but going back to Hall’s draft, we traded back and took Hall early in the second, I think he had a first round grade, meaning, we got additional draft pick and we still got a first round talent in the second round, and yet Hall never came close to that draft status. Gholston was drafted in the 4th, and he brilliantly play no better/no worse than that draft status, meaning? Hall was technically a bust, another miss for Licht.

I’m actually impressed with our front office letting him walk. Hall was durable, and $7M wouldn’t have broken us, but we have a tendency to love our draft picks a little too much. We saw Hall’s ceiling, and we think we can do better. I’m tired of this mediocre roster. Hall will be a JAG in that Houston rotation. He’ll no doubt get some numbers, but he isn’t breaking out and turning into a star.

DestinJohhny – “Jason loves to over pay guys he drafted as he feels like resigning a guy he drafted is a feather in his cap. If he lets you go you are really bad.”

Well then, clearly Mike Evans sucked. So did Alex Cappa and Carlton Davis.

  9. Anyhony Says:

Bowles wanted to get quicker up the middle so he went smaller, that didn’t pan out so now they are going to go back to mountain men in the middle. Hall will do well on the edge of a 4-3, not great but good rotational guy. Kancey??????🤔

  10. DavidsHogg Says:

Joe loves to act like Bowles is a dark cloud over these d line guys but I can’t name one that’s left and out performed their Bucs days. Can you Joe?

[Could be a reason for that (ahem). — Joe.]

  11. Jack Burton Mercer Says:

He was very ordinary, but not as ordinary as Bowles defense. Hall may be better in Houston but it is very unlikely that he will set the world on fire, much less make a pro bowl.

  12. HC Grover Says:

    Hodad shoots the curl.

  13. Pelsbuc61 Says:

Another reason you can’t rely on Licht to bolster the Dline through the draft. Bucs need to grab Chubb and someone else in free agency.

  14. doolnutts Says:

    Zoocomics

Yes & no. The “grades” dont matter. Maybe he had a first-round grade, maybe not he was drafted in the second. That being said for a second-round pick, he was good. He started, and that’s what you need second-round picks to do.

The thing people forget is 34 ends are asked to take up space and line control. You may not light it up in the stat section. I think fans confuse this with 43 DEs. Logan did what was asked.

  15. Alanbucsfan Says:

I guess Joe didn’t see the play at home vs Saints when Shough scrambled away from what seemed a sure sack by Hall and scored the winning Touchdown.

  16. Warren Brooks Lynch Says:

“If Ryans uses him as a 4-3 defensive end he’ll do fine. That’s what he is, a 4-3 end, not a defensive tackle. Bowles had a square peg, in a round hole, not Hall’s fault he was only average here.”

Ya’ll have to get into this decade, and stop with this.

Ryan operates his D out of a 4-2-5, just like us and pretty much every defense around the league.

That 3rd off-ball LB doesn’t see the field nearly as much as a nickel back

Folly is thinking Hall is going to be asked to cut into Will Anderson or Danielle Hunters’ reps, not gonna happen.

  17. WiscoJoe Says:

The worst part of it all is Logan Hall’s statement to Aaron Wilson (check his Twitter account) when he says “I want to be a part of a Super Bowl winning team. Let’s get after it.” I’m starting to think this whole organization needs to look themselves in the mirror. Is this a soft tank? What’s wrong with going after big name guys to help the team win?

Bringing Todd Bowles back the past two seasons has set this franchise back quite a few years. Not to the level of Lousy Lovie Smith, but it’s slowly getting there.

  18. Eckwood Says:

the front seven of this defense is arguably the worst in the league . Then you factor in Todd who clearly can’t get his knowledge to operate as he envisions on the field .
This is Why Licht has probably fired himself unless he has pounded the table for change and the owners said NO . I truly think this is one of the most unrealistic clueless run teams ( Jason and Todd ) over the last few years .
The personnel on this team is going backwards Fast . I mean before we know it Ivory Sully is going to be back on the roster.

  19. Bucs3 Says:

Bet Hall Balls Out in Houston

If he does the Bowels Fans will have to come up with new excuses

  20. rrsrq Says:

Ditto to the other comments, he likely a better 4-3 defensive end (but I thought that about JTS), maybe they bring him back.

  21. Oscar Says:

Good enough for the Texans but not good enough for the mighty Bucs!

  22. Oscar Says:

Too expensive for the Bucs I guess.

  23. Oscar Says:

Todd Bowles always had good things to say about Hall. I think it’s Licht and the Glazers that should be worried about him tearing it up with the Texans. They’re the ones that sign the checks!

  24. Hopes on 2027 Says:

seems like nobody wants to play for Bowles. I guess throwing people under the bus isn’t such a great strategy after all.

  25. Lokog Says:

He will do good in trashtown not great but not as bad as when he was with the yucs

  26. Erik with UniqueModernArt.com Says:

Logan Hall is low-key a really solid player. We got worse on D by losing him. And losing Dean too. Our D will be terrible next season. Mainly bcuz of Bowles, but also because of personnel.

  27. Badbucs Says:

We let Dean and Hall go and so far only brought in a 32 year old LB. How have we gotten better? 95% of the decent FA have signed elsewhere already. JL either caught flat footed or by design did nothing. Apparently, our plan is hoping. Hoping Kancey can stay on the field and play bigger than he is. Hoping Walker can be the genius pick and not play like a rookie to get 10 sacks. Hoping the 2nd year corners play like seasoned vets and can stay out of the tub. Hoping LVD finds the fountain of youth and play like 26 instead of 36. Hoping Vea can hold up to stay on the field another year without true 3/4 DE beside him and not decline in production. Hoping McCollum just had an off year and is not grossly overpaid and a bust. Hoping no one gets injured in the secondary that has no depth. Hoping to draft LB rookies who are immediately seasoned vets in a LB room with 1 ancient holdover and 1 incompetent leftover from last season. Hoping all the overpaid guys we extended can stay on the field for a while and actually earn some of the money instead of watching in street clothes. Hoping we play it better and coach it bett
Great plan JL and Todd. Don’t worry about falling behind all the other teams making themselves better.

  28. Badbucs Says:

Hall was another genius pick. Get a guy who is too small for the position you want him to play and have him put on 30 pounds. How could anything go wrong?

  29. BucU Says:

“”Hope Hall Balls Out in Houston

If he does the Bowels Fans will have to come up with new excuses””

That’s right. All 7 of them.

  30. Buc2Blame Says:

Logan Hall is a BUM ALL TRASH. Idek why you gave this attention @joe. He is a bigger JTS

  31. Buc2Blame Says:

This is the same dude who hurt our Pro Bowl center his first yr and messed Jensen all up

  32. Simeon4HOF Says:

    Suh

  33. Ben Says:

With the talent and coaching they have in the front 7, I dont think he struggles. Look at the players like Rankins who also had a good year

  34. 813bucboi Says:

never had any problems with halls play lol…i wish him well

    GO BUCS!!!!

  35. sBucs Says:

Anyone noticed that Todd and Titanic start with the same letter? They even sound alike. Clearly some sort of deep football message. I think I’m going to start calling Todd… Titanic for his utter ability to make a Super Bowl winning team into a mediocre mess. Never forget 3rd and 28. Todd’s Titanic legacy.

  36. Scott Says:

We have lost some good pieces of the team

  37. Tom Petty Says:

Anyone notice sBucs and Stoopid start with the same letter ?

Pitiful try, even for a troll 🙄

  38. fireeveryone Says:

This guy sucks. Another 2nd round draft bust by our GM. Dude is now a backup in Houston and will barely see the field.

  39. Drock Says:

He is a good player, but he’s been replaced. We need a difference maker. A closer.

  40. Scott Says:

I wonder if Bucs gave him an offer? Houston might have got a great deal because he’s not a big name. 10mill guaranteed is a big chunk for AShawn. But that’s how 1 year deals go.

  41. BigMacAttack Says:

The Bowles 3.375-3.625 defense is a simple scheme. It offers players the freedom to use their instincts and judgment. It is an evolving scheme because if a good play is made then thee player was in the right spot. If the defense gets burned, it’s because someone missed an assignment. The best and most complex part of this cutting edge butter knife is “Cover Nobody”. Also known as the Free-zone //freeze zone. It starts by playing off the line by 17 yards. You stand there as receiver rungu

  42. BigMacAttack Says:

I gave up it was too complicated

  43. 3.28.Evans Says:

He will do well for Demeco.
