Alex Singleton And The Bucs

February 23rd, 2026

Readers here during The Lost Decade may remember the player Joe referred to as a “misplaced Calgary Stampeder.”

The Stampeders are a CFL team and former Bucs receiver Donteea Dye (2015-2018) had CFL written all over him.

Joe was reminded of Dye thinking about Broncos inside linebacker Alex Singleton being a pending free agent.

What an inspiring guy Singleton is, a real Jason Licht kind of lunchpail, climb-from-obscurity player. Singleton was undrafted out of Montana State and, after failing to stick with the Seahawks, Vikings and Belicheats, he spent a few seasons with, yes, the Calgary Stampeders.

Singleton, 32, been back in the NFL for six seasons — three with the Eagles and three in Denver. He just completed his fourth year of 135 or more tackles. Simply put, Singleton is the kind of reliable, enthusiastic tackler the Bucs need.

Yes, reports say the Broncos want him back, but Joe keeps seeing that Singleton won’t command much more than $6 milion or $7 milion per year because of his age and ACL tear (knee) in 2024, and the testicular cancer scare he had last season.

Overpaying slightly for a productive and popular guy like Singleton is probably the only way to get him. But it doesn’t feel like it would take a painful amount of Team Glazer cash.

And if you don’t realize it, the Bucs need help at inside linebacker.

Is it bad to say just about anyone would be an upgrade over Dennis? I haven’t looked, but I have to imagine Dennis is ranked on of, if not the worst, ILBs in the country. Hes prob even ranked behind backups.

Sounds like a hungry football player ,with a contagious heart!

  3. HC Grover Says:

Jason Licht Kind. UMM Is that good?

  4. Ufc Says:

We need men. Real men on this team. Anzolone singleton guys that play wuth intensity and production

  5. Hopein1hand… Says:

Pass- this fella reeks of a PED suspension waiting to happen.

    What^^^^

  7. Bowles Wasn't Held Accountable Says:

If he’s slow enough to not be able to cover anyone and doesn’t like to tackle, he’ll fit in perfectly in a Todd Bowles defense.

  8. Lessismore Says:

There’s a tad under 40 unrestricted free agent linebackers under 28 years old.
With the exception of Britt and White, any would be an upgrade over what we watched in 2025.
Top passing defenses : Bills, Vikings, Browns, Saints, Chargers, Texans, Bronco, Eagles……. And any of their linebackers or edge guys would be better than what we have.

  9. John Sinclear Says:

Hmm. Age 32+, ACL tear, testicular cancer, and only $6-7 million a year?

$6 million here, $6 million there, $6 million somewhere else, and pretty soon you’re talking serious big money! Pass!

  10. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

You people really don’t know how to judge players, lol.

🏈 The ACL was 2 years ago…and Alex Singleton has since come back for an entire season, so clearly it is a non-factor.

🏈 On November 3, 2025, Singleton was diagnosed with testicular cancer after taking a random drug test a few days previously. He underwent surgery to successfully remove the cancer on November 7, a week later. It’s dealt with.

🏈 Age is a non-factor right now…he’s 4 years younger than Lavonte David.

🏈 He’s better than Lavonte David…so imagine the two of them side-by-side for a year? Unstoppable!

Sign him if we can…for up to $10m/year

Please dont sign any FA 32 years old or older with injury history. What are we going to get 2 years max of good production?

It’s time to sign some capable FAs in their prime and draft without Bowles having any say.

  12. Kgh4life Says:

SVD can’t be a starter for the Bucs next season. He’s not good at all. They’re some intriguing albeit older LBs in free agency, that will be upgrades.

  13. Bryan Says:

I would be optimistic but with our GM its bargain basement or bust he isnt going to splash in free agency or make any splash trades and like the Glazers guy is a big coward that just wants to collect a paycheck at this point neither him or the Glazers came out publicly in support of Todd Bowles and they do not care about winning anymore.

Two years is enough to buy time to draft players to replace them.

  15. Danny C Says:

Good grief, seriously Joe, a 32 year old journeyman.

  16. BigD Says:

How about no more older, broken down players on prove it deals. Do whatever you have to to move up to get Styles and sign Leo Chenel. Then you have a good run defender and a good coverage guy.

  17. Aqualung Says:

Todd can get the production his defense needs out of anyone and that has been proven. All pro or scrub, they perform the same plying for the genius.

  18. Defense Rules Says:

In terms of current free agents, there are 22 UFA linebackers who are 30 or over, plus another 45 UFA linebackers who are under 30. Fairly confident that the Bucs will keep SVD as a backup for 1 more year (then cut him loose), so my best guess is that we’ll need THREE more linebackers (we normally carry 4) because I don’t see any others on our roster who are talented enough to make a Top-10 roster. And yes, that must be our goal.

Of those 3, I’d like to see us sign 1 highly-qualified veteran then draft 2 ILB in the top 4 Rnds. This looks to be a VERY GOOD draft class for ILBs, just like last year was a very good class for DTs.

But much prefer that the veteran ILB who we sign NOT be older than 28. Preferably he’d have a full 4-5 years of starting experience by that point, and hopefully have fantastic stats. In other words, we NEED ‘a big-play guy’ who can tackle & cover with the best of them. And yes, LEAD also.

  19. Rod Munch Says:

We’ve had good luck with ILB named Singleton. Speaking of which, is he related to Alshermond Singleton?

    Oh wait… nevermind.

  20. Outrigger Says:

This team is close to being a Super Bowl contender next year. All we need is 3 ILBs, 2 OLBs, a DT, a corner, a TE, a RB, a backup
QB and a competent DC and Head Coach.

  21. BigD Says:

Instead we’ll have 50 mil tied up in 2 older, injury prone receivers that won’t be able t play a whole season between the 2 of them combined.

  22. NLK@boston Says:

seems like a good player, good story, and a good locker room guy. if he’s smart he’ll stay away from the guru or he might suffer a brain aneurism. sign an idiot who doesn’t know any better and just wants a payday, (aka reddick). at least he’ll live to tell about it.
