Maybe A New Offensive Coordinator By Monday Night?

January 22nd, 2026

Search for new OC continues.

Let Joe be clear: No one has tipped off Joe that an offensive coordinator hire is imminent. Or that it may happen in the next four days.

Joe just has a hunch the Bucs are closing in on their man. Various reports had former Dixie Chicks offensive coordinator Zac Robinson at One Buc Palace for a second interview yesterday.

Additionally, former Titans head coach Brian Callahan is expected to be at One Buc Palace today for his second interview.

Yes, Joe knows Bengals offensive coordinator Dan Pitcher did a Zoom interview earlier this week.

Those are the known guys the Bucs are interested in. It appears that former Crows coach Todd Monken, who the Bucs also interviewed, is headed to New York to rejoin John Harbaugh, the new coach of the Giants, if Monken is not hired as the new head coach of the Browns.

All of these agent name-droppings do not include any college coaches the Bucs may be interested in. The Bucs’ media relations staff has pumped out social media posts updating fans on who has been interviewed and no college coaches have surfaced. That doesn’t mean the Bucs haven’t spoken to college playcallers.

Don’t be alarmed: Liam Coen had never called NFL plays before he came to the Bucs but did call plays at Kentucky. He did just fine as the Bucs’ shot-caller on offense in 2024.

Given how the Bucs brought back two guys to interview at One Buc Palace, that tells Joe the Bucs could make a decision over the weekend and announce a new coordinator on Monday. The NFL doesn’t like major announcements on game days.

As for not getting Mike McDaniel, Joe thinks it is clear why the Bucs struck out with McDaniel, as the former Dolphins big-shot decided to be an offensive coordinator in Los Angeles working for Jim Harbaugh.

When McDaniel interviewed with the Bucs, it likely went like this:

Mike McDaniel: Who will coach the Bucs in 2027 if the Bucs have a rough season in 2026?

Bucs: (Crickets.)

McDaniel: Who will be the Bucs’ quarterback in 2027 if Baker Mayfield has another bad second-half of the season?

Bucs: (Crickets.)

McDaniel: Pardon me one moment, gentlemen, I have to take a call from Jim Harbaugh. … Hey Jim, thanks for calling. Hey, I’ve got two quick questions: Who is going to coach the Chargers in 2027?

Jim Harbaugh: Me, you two-bit comedian, who do you think?

McDaniel: OK, relax. Then, who will your quarterback be in 2027?

Harbaugh: What are you talking about? Same guy as this year, Justin Herbert. I’m not about to trade for Tua. What is going on over there? Is Jason Licht still peeved at me for pounding Nebraska?

McDaniel: All right, all right, all right. You can call Licht later. He’s got no problem with J.J. McCarthy, chill. I’ll see you in a few hours. … Gentlemen, thanks so much for the Cuban sandwiches. I’ve got to catch a flight to Los Angeles. We’ll keep in touch. I’m sorry about December, Todd. I tried to help out and play Quinn Ewers. Have a good day, guys.

“ I’m sorry about December, Todd. I tried to help out and play Quinn Ewers.” Hilarious 🤣🤣🤣🤣 Great stuff.

  2. HC Grover Says:

Is The Bowzo Curse turning the Bucs in to the laughingstock of the NFL?

  3. Eric Says:

No one wants this job lol we are going to hit the reset button on the HC,QB, and possibly GM in 2027.

  4. heyjude Says:

I hate to say this, but if their choice is one of these guys, we should have just kept Grizz for another season. Nate Scheelhaase is probably going to the Steelers as head coach, but he would have been a good OC hire. Joe Brady another good choice. Maybe bring in a DC too. Possibly McDermott. There are so many more, thinking outside the box. The Bucs have the roster and deserve coaches that know it, experience, and know how to use them on the field.

  5. adam from ny Says:

if they hire the titans guy, it’s a clear tank the season vibe for a quarterback

  6. JA Says:

McDaniel: Exactly why did you choose to retain Todd Bowles after his dismal finish?
    Bucs: Crickets
McDaniel: I hear that Baker Mayfield played injured, and it was enough to alter his ability to perform his best. All I hear through the rumor mill is, “Clearly, Baker was injured. Now that the season is over and there’s nothing to hide from upcoming opponents, can you tell me exactly what those injuries were and how they affected his late season play?
    Bucs: Crickets
McDaniel: Many teams bring in a player or two at the trade deadline to help down the home stretch. Can you tell me why your team did nothing when it became clear you needed help?
    Bucs: Crickets

  7. Fred McNeil Says:

Once you get the fact that we are retaining a HC whom the whole team quit on last year and we are going to keep the same idiot calling the defense there’s really no reason to get our hopes up for anything other than a super high draft pick.

  8. Bowles Wasn't Held Accountable Says:

They need a new HC and DC, while they’re at it. It’s an insult to the fans to go into a new season with a defense (bend AND break) that obviously doesn’t work.

  9. adam from ny Says:

    good job JA…………..haha

  10. heyjude Says:

Loved Joe’s dialogue. And agree with JA too. It could all be another Annie skit, lol!

  11. Lessismore Says:

    Joe and JA nailed it.

  12. Crazyhorse54 Says:

When will the announcement of the hiring of a new DC happen. ?

  13. Bee Says:

No one wants to risk their career with this HC and roster. League is saying with their actions that the leadership on this team isn’t good. Not shocking at all.

The OC really doesn’t matter much when the HC wants you to run often and the QB is inconsistent. Thats like running a restaurant and firing the cook because the meals are bad meanwhile the owners stock the fridge with expired food and low quality ingredients.

This season is shaping up to look like Rah’s last season. Oh well, better days are coming. New HC, QB and maybe GM in 2027!

  14. Crazyhorse54 Says:

Another dumb question, Are the owners so out of touch they don’t realize how weak the defense was? And, further, over the years TB has been HC there has been no improvement. Do they not see that? In addition, how do they feel that JL gave that incompetent a contract extension? Just thoughts that defy explanation

  15. Darengibo Says:

Hahahaha that last line! Too funny!

  16. Bucinator Says:

Could this year’s Todd Bowles Buccaneers team compete with the talent we see on the field right now?
    ” Crickets”

  17. Greg-therealone Says:

The Glazers are busy with Manchester United right now. They just had to axe the head coach and they are eating about 10 million of his salary and they still have to hire a guy. They have an interim coach/manager. Thats a pretty big ask for them to eat Bowles extension on top of that. I would be willing to bet Licht is on thin thin ice as well.

  18. It’s Exciting!!!! Says:

The only hope is hiring an OC which has good intel on DCs hopefully available next year when he becomes the HC.

  19. BucFan4Life Says:

McDaniel: if we go 8-9 with a lot of inconsistent play, but win the last game of the season and the division, will you guarantee that I have earned another season?
Bucs: We will let you announce that.

  20. PSL Bob Says:

Joe, that faux conversation with McDaniel is brilliant. Made me laugh out loud. Well done sir!

  21. Chuck Says:

    I second It’s Exciting!!!’s idea.

  22. DailyRich Says:

Looks like we’re finalizing a deal with Robinson.

  23. Eckwood Says:

Who Cares !! Head Coach wouldn’t be hired as H C by another team if he came with a 10 million cap credit !! Think About It !!

  24. Popmike66 Says:

Well Joe I guess the Bucs made liers out of those you kept saying nobody want the OC job with the Bucs. Looks like Z Robison is our new OC

  25. Daryl Green Says:

🤣🤣🤣 🤙🏾👏🏾👏🏾 I just talked about this in another thread yesterday.interviewing the Hoosiers OC Shanahan, I all also said how Cohen had never call plays until the Kentucky job. I wake up, Joe’s are mentioning the same thing interesting.

  26. Donny’s Shrinking Frontal Lobe Says:

Wake up. You think McDaniel was concerned about 2027? He will be a HC in ‘27. Poor take.

  27. Buckit Says:

The Bucs could do a lot worse than Zac Robinson. I’m kind of surprised to hear he may land with the Bucs.

  28. TBBucFan Says:

Always appreciate the humor but I believe there are deeper reasons. We know that results in either market will lead to opportunities. Canales and Coen are proof of that. Is it Hebert over Mayfield? Maybe but the Bucs offense has huge potential. Cost of living is not a factor for a high paying stepping stone job so it’s not that. So is it the head coach? Could very well be but maybe not for the reasons you think. There are so many factors to weigh in life’s decisions and Mike has to think of a few more than maybe others do.

  29. BuxfaninTX Says:

Zac Robinson will be named OC- still need a DL and zdB coach

  30. Allen Lofton Says:

Media is Turning the O C hire into a clown show. The Glazers and Jason Licht will get it done right. It’s a search, not a search and rescue event. The Buccaneers are one of the better teams in the NFL.

  31. Tom Edrington Says:

This just in: Bucs got cold leftovers for OC…..

  32. HC Grover Says:

Bucs need a Fan Coach. He can try to get some of the fans on the run back and help with the trauma.

  33. Dacake Says:

I guess Zac Robinson is our new OC.

  34. Rob5 Says:

Boy most of you guys that comment on this site
would give Johnny [Randy Quaid] a run for his money
in Major League 2…”You rotten bums! You overpaid weenies! Mild thing, you make my butt sting! I *detest* you! You’re all garbage! All of ya! Back up the truck! Back it up!”
    This is most of you..

  35. Popmike66 Says:

As for the other coaches, I think the Bucs will announce them all when they introduce Robinson

  36. Pewter Power Says:

Just hire somebody anybody, this guy can average 30 point a game like Coen and Bowles can get fired so we can get a real head coach. Why waste your time if this will be a wasted season with Bowles running the defense

  37. Simeon4HOF Says:

    Zac Robertson

  38. Simeon4HOF Says:

    I mean Robinson lol. LFB

  39. Hugh Glazerhouse Says:

This all would have been just fine if we fired the head coach and let a new head coach bring in his coaching staff. But keeping the head coach and firing all the other coaches puts us in an impossible situation. The Glazerhouses really have no idea what the heck they’re doing.

  40. D-Rome Says:

Welp, Zac Robinson got Kirk Cousins to throw over 500 yards against the Bucs. He also has a Super Bowl ring with the Rams as a QB Coach. That’s something Mike McDaniel can’t claim.

  41. Delson Says:

Smh what the hell is even this sh.. from within the division. Hope bring back Raheem Morris as our DC 2 smh

  42. Beeej Says:

Herbert has been out-statted by Baker all 3 years that Baker’s been here, he’s merely in the top 15 now. McDaniel is gonna fix that?

  43. I See It Says:

I can just hear the conversation now…
So how did you, the Falcons and Kirk Cousins exploit my defense, like a knife going through butter the last few years. Well, you see coach, we all know you’re stubborn. And you play soft zone, plus you have no blitz or edge rush, so it was pretty easy. Bowles: okay, I have a plan. Let’s design our defense around the Falcon’s offense last year, you can help us with that. OC Robinson: but I’m here now, coach. Bowles: what are you talking about? Teams don’t change and improve every year
