Todd Bowles Praises Logan Hall, Says Bucs Can Use Help On Defensive Front
January 18th, 2026Bucs starting defensive lineman Logan Hall will find demand for his services in free agency soon.
Hey, if Joe Tryon-Shoyinka found a high-paying job a year ago, then Hall might find general managers pounding on his door.
The Browns hired edge rusher Tryon-Shoyinka, the Bucs’ 2021 first-round pick, on a one-year deal for about $5 million. He barely played and the Browns traded him to the Bears in midseason. He was more productive in Chicago but hasn’t played in weeks.
Hall, the first pick of Round 2 in 2022, just finished his Bucs rookie contract. He never blossomed fully but he was not dead weight like Tryon-Shoyinka was.
After 5 1/2 sacks in 2024 despite rarely playing on third down, Hall did not build on that this season. He primarily was used against the run and is an OK player with occasional flashes.
Bucs head coach Todd Bowles, however, seems to be a true Hall fan.
Bowles hopped on the Buccaneers Radio Network after the regular season and assessed his defensive front. Yes, Bowles said his team could use help up there.
Bucs fans can read between the lines along with Joe.
“Well, Vita [Vea], anytime you have Vita, he’s the dominant guy. He’s the most dominant guy on our defensive front right there,” Bowles began. “And you have Yaya [Diaby] to go with it.
“Really Logan Hall doesn’t get a lot of credit, but he plays very hard. I thought Elijah [Roberts] had a promising start to his rookie year right there. And obviously Greg [Gaines] is Steady Eddie, so we have guys that can step in there. Hassan [Reddick] got banged up early, but [Anthony Nelson] came in and made some plays for us early in the year and [Chris Braswell] showed some flash in there as well. So it’s promising going forward and we can use some help up there. And we’ll probably look for some of those things going forward depending on what happens with some of our guys.”
“This Joe” would be very happy to see the Bucs wave goodbye to Gaines, Reddick and Braswell. The Bucs can do better collectively without even spending a lot of money to replace them.
Braswell can’t rush the passer and Joe is not seeing a strong special teams player there, either. Maybe another team would be willing to cough up a draft pick for Braswell? There’s always a GM somewhere who had a love affair with a former first- or second-round pick. Braswell was a Round 2 pick in 2024.
Nelson is signed for 2026 and certainly is a solid depth piece. Plus, he almost always knows where to be in Bowles’ complicated defense.
Hall is an interesting decision. He’s no loafer and he’s durable and still just 25 years old. Joe would want to know the price.
It sounds like Bowles would welcome Hall with open arms. Perhaps the to-be-hired defensive line coach could get more out of him?

Joe’s been endorsing — and enjoying — local Hooters locations since before Lavonte David was drafted. Online ordering is easy, and so is enjoying a good meal in their fun locations.

I welcome that come march

January 18th, 2026 at 2:47 pm
Todd should be fired for praising Logan Hall.

Maybe if these defenders could get great coaching…they might become good players? But then there’s TB! Heavy sigh!
January 18th, 2026 at 2:53 pm
Bryan “Hugh” Glazerhouse needs to open up his wallet even bigger to pay for his sins of extending Bowles then not firing him like he should have.
January 18th, 2026 at 2:53 pm
I still have visions of Tyler Shough escaping a L Hall both arms grasp and running for a TD.
January 18th, 2026 at 2:54 pm
Have we hired ANY coaches yet?
January 18th, 2026 at 2:59 pm
He said the Buc’s can use help on the defensive line? Where the hell has he been. He should be saying we definitely need help on our defensive rotation. I don’t think this guy’s gonna change, he hasn’t yet and he won’t next season either. The offense better put up a lot of points, consistently. If not, the same old 8 wins and a home playoff loss, time to celebrate everyone, time to celebrate. Thanks Glazers, thanks.
January 18th, 2026 at 3:01 pm
Good question – apparently not…. Only heard about OC candidates and special teams interviews. No named interviews I recall for any of the defensive assistants yet.
January 18th, 2026 at 3:11 pm
Yeah I was torn on Logan coming out but I would’ve leaned more towards passing on him. Don’t see how anything is gonna change on D as long as he wants to be involved in it. They can put anybody on that D but it won’t matter as long as he’s involved & as long it’s that same scheme/system. They need somebody else running that D & then they’d probably start looking better because there’s no way that D should be struggling as much as it does with the talent it has on it.
January 18th, 2026 at 3:12 pm
TIME TO BE REAL
VV is the only A Player in the front 7-8.
Yaya is the only B Player.
100% Replaceable:
Hall, CK, Roberts
Nelson, Braz
LVD, SVD
Etc
The Bucs are sorely low on defensive talent.
January 18th, 2026 at 3:14 pm
With the way their schedule looks next year they probably won’t be any better than they were this year. Especially if the scheme/system on D is gonna be the same.
January 18th, 2026 at 3:16 pm
-Landon Robinson ‘26-
January 18th, 2026 at 3:17 pm
If VEA and CK are doing their thing and we had edge rushers doing their thing, Hall could be a valuable asset as a run stuffer. Unfortunately, they need much more than that right now because at best, he is just above average.
Bowles has a problem being loyal to a lot of defensive players who are good, but not great. Him and LICHT have one major job- constant improvement of every position.
January 18th, 2026 at 3:19 pm
I wouldn’t mind bringing back Hall at the right price as a depth piece. He wasn’t worth a 2nd round pick but he has value as a depth/role player
January 18th, 2026 at 3:24 pm
How about a decent defensive draft picks this year. Too many 1st and 2nd round picks that
Have severely iunder performed.
January 18th, 2026 at 3:27 pm
Logan hall is bad. You never see him making a play. He stinks up our d line. Hes so bad he actually made our own line worse too. Remember how we lost Jensen. Bowles needs to flush this one.
January 18th, 2026 at 3:31 pm
Hall is in the top third of linemen in general, no reason to let him walk unless the money isn’t right
January 18th, 2026 at 3:33 pm
I think they are waiting to see how the playoffs shake out cause one of their prospects maybe still coaching. And even though they haven’t said so until I see coach’s hired I’m not fully convinced that TB is here until the staff is in place. “So you’re saying there is a chance?”
January 18th, 2026 at 3:35 pm
Hes a tweener…. what’s he doing well? I’ll wait..
I focus on him a lot, He does nada. No speed, doesn’t collapse the pocket, bat down balls, great vs the run? Move on.
I seriously ? Bowles vision. Maybe he has cataracts.
January 18th, 2026 at 3:37 pm
Get rid of Dean while you’re at it.
January 18th, 2026 at 3:39 pm
Is this the longest search for a special teams coach or secondary coach or defensive line coach in Bucs history?
January 18th, 2026 at 3:40 pm
Carlton davis just caught a pick 🥴
January 18th, 2026 at 4:08 pm
They should re-sign him for a reasonable but then take a DL with first round pick. Not an edge. A DL.
January 18th, 2026 at 4:11 pm
Bowles loves mediocrity. 7-10 ceiling with this joker.
January 18th, 2026 at 4:12 pm
Wow, I’m a fortune teller… from when Davis was traded to Detroit. The Bucs would go one to lead the NFL in zone coverage in 2024 as the pass defense continued it’s decline to being among the worst in the NFL.

Rod Munch Says:
March 11th, 2024 at 6:59 pm
This makes no sense, even if they think Zyon is ready to start, you need three corners – they’re in nickel as much as they’re in base. …
To me this says Bowles is going back to that awful soft zone garbage where it doesn’t matter who you have back there, since everyone is just told to stand around and wait for someone to happen before they move. Ugh…
January 18th, 2026 at 4:16 pm
Look at this AI recap from Google… But it leaves out the resolution, that result of Davis speaking out was that he was shipped out of town. Bowles, minus Arians, will play his passive zone defense regardless of the results or the players Licht has given him.
————
The “Carlton Davis Todd Bowles zone” dynamic refers to Tampa Bay Buccaneers Defensive Coordinator Todd Bowles using more zone coverage in 2023, which conflicted with star cornerback Carlton Davis’s man-coverage strengths, leading to defensive struggles and fan frustration, though Bowles eventually shifted back to more man-to-man, allowing Davis and others to play to their strengths and improve performance. Bowles explained the zone shift was due to other defensive backs not being adept at man, but it was seen as misusing Davis, a premier shutdown corner.
Why It Became a Topic
Davis’s Skillset: Carlton Davis is known as a lockdown, press-man corner who can travel with top receivers, a rare and valuable asset.
Bowles’s Shift: In 2023, Bowles played more zone, reportedly to keep less-capable man-coverage corners on the field.
Performance Issues: This diluted Davis’s impact and led to coverage busts, making the Bucs’ secondary look poor despite having talent like Antoine Winfield Jr..
Player Input: After player feedback, including from Davis and Jamel Dean, Bowles returned to more man coverage.
The Resolution
Return to Man: When the Bucs played more man-to-man, Davis and Dean excelled, holding receivers to low production.
“Elephants Be Elephants”: The philosophy became letting key players like Davis and Dean play to their strengths in man coverage, maximizing their abilities.
In essence, the discussion highlighted a tactical misstep by Bowles in 2023, where he moved away from what made his best cornerback, Davis, so effective, and the subsequent correction brought better results.

January 18th, 2026 at 4:20 pm
I’m not mad at Hall, not in love with him either. I’m actually a bigger fan of Nelson.
If Hall stays for cheap depth I’m good with it. If he gets someone to write him a big check elsewhere, go in peace young man.
January 18th, 2026 at 4:20 pm
Rod says this: To me this says Bowles is going back to that awful soft zone garbage where it doesn’t matter who you have back there, since everyone is just told to stand around and wait for someone to happen before they move. Ugh************lol! no doubt, have to agree with this. It is cushion zone. Bucs are a sorry ass team. Too bad Glazers are afraid and they are cheap. They put there faith in Licht who is both–cheap bargain hunter and afraid to change as it may upset the apple cart. Hope they both lose their jobs next time. Bucs get 4-5 wins at most.
January 18th, 2026 at 4:28 pm
Time for Jason to throw the bag at “his guy”
January 18th, 2026 at 4:33 pm
Man, what Logan Hall is Bowles watching? Watched every Bucs game this year and was his name called more than 2 times. He makes no plays week in and week out. Gets blocked out of running games, no pressures in QBs. He is purely a rotational player. Since Licht has been drafting DL’s it’s been the weakest part of the defense as well as the LBs. No physicality from these no-effort DLs.

January 18th, 2026 at 4:37 pm
While Carlton Davis is having a good day, just imagine if this Patriots defense was as smart as Todd Bowles and had Davis sit back in a super soft zone, 20 yards off the line of scrimmage. Yeah, on the surface that might not sound like a good idea, but that’s because you don’t understand 4D chess, and how confusing and befuddling it is for opposing QBs when they’re presented with completely wide open receiving options – it causes mental strain as they wonder what is really going on, and they question every throw, and by the end of the game, the QB is basically in a cationic state.
January 18th, 2026 at 4:44 pm
I like Hall an at the Right price he can come back an be part of this Defensive Front
January 18th, 2026 at 4:46 pm
Sounds like @RodMunch is admitting Baker didn’t “single handily” lose four-straight games. Todd Bowles and his lousy D had something to do with it? Glad you’re coming around.
January 18th, 2026 at 4:51 pm
Hall is a bust. Cut and run!
January 18th, 2026 at 4:57 pm
Man, it’s tough watching CJ Stroud implode like this. Wouldn’t be surprised if he turns it around here.
January 18th, 2026 at 5:02 pm
VV= Gerald McCoy. why you say? Because VV is the only player on the line that is worth anything. Offenses know they can double or triple team him because everyone else on the D line isn’t any good. Gerald takes a lot of stupid Sh*t on this board but he was the only decent D lineman the Bucs had at the time. VV is experiencing the same situation. Bowles and Licht have done nothing to help VV. Reddick, JPP? No trade before the deadline. Give me a break. Good thing I am not the owner. Both Bowles and Licht would be looking for a job now. BTW, what does everyone see in Licht? The guy is a total moron when it comes to defense personnel.
January 18th, 2026 at 5:03 pm
does theBucs defensive line have a weight room they use or are they more yoga oriented? Very mushy !!
January 18th, 2026 at 5:06 pm
Worth about $250k a year. 1.5 sacks for the year 3 tackles a game. Come on, if we need somebody to wear a jersey and stand in position, he can hold his own.
The fact Bowles even thinks he’s worth bringing back is further fodder to support Glazers should have cut Bowles loose. Perhaps when we go 4-13 in 2026 they will do what she be done this year.
January 18th, 2026 at 5:09 pm
CJ Stroud is clearly injured. If only he was healthy, everything would be different… Hopefully he’ll get healthy before the end of the game, if he does so, I think we can all confidently say he’s the real MVP and won the game single handedly.
January 18th, 2026 at 5:10 pm
Would he start or rotate on a top 10 defense? Shows how low Todd’s bar really is.
January 18th, 2026 at 5:10 pm
Halls biggest moment will always be ending Jensen’s career. Outside of that what has he done?
January 18th, 2026 at 5:11 pm
Baker still living there rent free huh?
January 18th, 2026 at 5:14 pm
When Harbaugh told the owners he wanted to be coach and GM, they should have said Ok, hired him and fired the whole staff. What they see in Licht is beyond me. Just look how that guy has ruined the defense over the last 4 years. Almost every defensive draft pick is a bust. Then he signs defensive free agents that are not even good back ups. Think Joe needs a poll for Licht to go along with poll for Bowles. Both “no confidence” for me. Bad defensive scheme , bad players. Bottom of the barrel.
January 18th, 2026 at 5:27 pm
Classic Carlton right there.
January 18th, 2026 at 5:33 pm
CJ Stroud sucks…so overrated.
January 18th, 2026 at 5:39 pm
I like CJ, but has zero time, interior OL sux, no Nico, two starting OL, no Dalton. That would affect even the great Baker Mayfield.
Maye not looking so good, just not as bad as CJ.
January 18th, 2026 at 5:39 pm
Never trust anything Bowles has to say about defense. He knows nothing about defense nor
coaching an NFL quality defense. He doesn’t think having players who are trained to get to the
qb is important relying rather on smoke and mirrors and illusions of a pass rush . His
homeboy network keeps subpar coaches just like him on his staff even though they sucked on
their other teams. He and his entire staff haven’t drafted nor developed a superstar on defense
which is actually just desserts for a team who’s never drafted, developed nor resigned to a 2nd
contract a superstar franchise qb rather relying on cast offs from other teams and now relying
on a qb who the hyperbole is greater than his actual ability and is as bad as he is good and
even when he was at the greatest he’ll ever be with our greatest OC and offense ever in 2024
still couldn’t get the job done in the end doing just bad enough that they couldn’t overcome
a Bowles coached defense.
January 18th, 2026 at 5:53 pm
Logan Hall has been a disappointment since he was drafted. Nothing remarkable about his contributions. let him walk or not, no difference.
January 18th, 2026 at 5:57 pm
Logan Hall. All Pro. lol. Total bum like JTS, Braswell, Gaines, Reddick. The only way to get out of this mess is to sign good Free Agents and get a DC. Otherwise find something else to do next season because the Bucs are going to be at the bottom of the division. I’m tired of Bowles and Licht hyping really bad players and starting clueless rookies in the secondary.
January 18th, 2026 at 6:11 pm
“Really Logan Hall doesn’t get a lot of credit, but he plays very hard. I thought Elijah [Roberts] had a promising start to his rookie year right there. Good Lord. Is the man blind or does he think we are all stupid?
Well, maybe at least one of us is. I believed all of the preseason hype Licht was spewing about Braswell, Yaya, Zyon, Reddick and Dennis.
Not anymore. I trust nothing the entire team from Owners to ticket takers say.
January 18th, 2026 at 6:18 pm
He’s great, Todd’s great, they’re all great. 3-28, 8-9.
January 18th, 2026 at 6:20 pm
Dang, if only Stroud wasn’t hurt, things would have been different. But with that offensive line, receivers dropping the ball, and the defense giving up 28 points, he never had a chance.
January 18th, 2026 at 6:24 pm
Joe I agree with you.
January 18th, 2026 at 6:35 pm
Why did they ever bring Reddick in.
January 18th, 2026 at 6:40 pm
Can someone please remind me again, why Todd was able to keep his job? Does it have something to do with farm animals?
January 18th, 2026 at 6:43 pm
This playoff field is one of the weakest I remember – and this is why Baker choking and costing the Bucs the playoffs is so bad. Had Baker just been middling during his 4-game losing streak, the Bucs are in, AND if Baker had then heated up, the Bucs could have done some damage — well, unless they faced the Rams in the playoffs, in which case the Bucs are sentenced to lose for all of eternity.
January 18th, 2026 at 6:44 pm
Problem is, everyone else is way more physical than us.
January 18th, 2026 at 7:37 pm
Munch. During the losing streak Baker stepped up and said, “my bad”. He took ownership. But I’m happy to report, after watching all these playoff games, that Baker is who I thought he was. A top 3 QB in the league. Also, after watching all these playoff games, I can report that our defense needs alot of help. 3 more linebackers and 3 beasts on the DL and maybe name a DC. Then we need to man our kick coverage team. And sign Mike. Then we can compete with any of these teams.
January 18th, 2026 at 7:50 pm
From all our mouths to the owners ears. Maybe they will have a change of heart and or Bowels will retire. I think a lot of fans are fed up. And if Bowles thinks we want to keep seeing his garbage defense he needs to go have his head checked

Dollar Tree Todd is an Idiot
January 18th, 2026 at 8:11 pm
JL outside of Winfield just cant seem to hit on 2nd rounders, so why not trade the pick with a proven commodity. Jury still out of Morrison, but JTS, Hall, Braswell, Trask, Spence, Evans (the safery), MJ stewart, the kicker Arroyo (cant remember) bad picks. Seriously, read the room, better off using that pick to go get s proven player that cant actually help this team.
January 18th, 2026 at 8:12 pm
HELLO RE**ARDS!!!
Logan was drafted #33 overall and has done NOTHING!!!
NOTHING!!!
January 18th, 2026 at 8:13 pm
I wonder if someone from the Bucs reads any of these comments and puts them in an executive summary for the Glazers? Bottom line, the fans are sick and tired of having a stupid coach, lazy GM, and a pathetic defense. The window is closing for players on the offense, and the Glazers are listening to Licht. Big mistake.
January 18th, 2026 at 8:34 pm

If Logan Hall played so well this year why wasn’t he in the game more? Instead it seems we had a rookie 5’th round pick playing more and more towards the end of the season. Let’s not even get started on Braswell. Why is it we can hit on guys like Vita but we can’t seem to draft edge rushers and linebackers that are worth spit.

January 18th, 2026 at 9:16 pm
Okay, now let the ‘gaslighting’ begin. I didn’t buy-it last off-season either, by the time we got to the end of it. Started sensing some ‘red-flags’ and didn’t know what to think of it. Then, we start-out 6-2 and I’m thinking… “Well, we might have something here, after-all!?” But, after Lickt stood pat at the ‘deadline’ and Bowles gave the team OFF throughout the ENTIRE Bye-Week… Ummm, NOPE. So, I am NOT buying into ANY of THIS BS now. No. Freaking. Way. I will have to actually SEE-IT ‘on-the-field’ FIRST, and for an entire season. Don’t Trust ANY Of This Bunch. They’re ALL FULLUVIT. And, DELUSIONAL.
January 18th, 2026 at 9:26 pm
Bucs/Yucs are below average. Top to bottom. Heading down fast with Captain Bowzo.
January 18th, 2026 at 9:32 pm
MelvinJunior – If Baker doesn’t single handedly lose those 4 games in a row with the playoffs on the line, the Bucs finish the year 12-5, on a 6-game winning streak going into the playoffs. It doesn’t matter if Licht trades for someone when Baker can’t complete a 3 yard pass on 3rd down to a wide open receiver with the game on the line.
The hope for next year is that Baker doesn’t have his typical mid-season collapse, or at least pulls out of it in time to save the season, which did happen the prior two season after Baker went cold. Sounds sarcastic, but I mean it legitimately, and I thought we’d see Baker heat-up towards the end of the year, but it never happened. If Baker truly was ‘hurt’ – then literally all that needs to happen is for him to be healthy and the Bucs are back in the playoffs. Obviously help on defense is welcome, but Baker is the reason they missed the playoffs, and why they could make them next year.
January 18th, 2026 at 9:37 pm
It is absolutely AMAZING how bad of a rut Vrabel was in while at Tennessee, & NOW THIS. It’s amazing what having an ELITE QB can do for entire TEAM. I mean, THAT Patriots Team last season was HORRIBLE.
January 18th, 2026 at 9:43 pm
Yeah, it’s mostly true Rod. The Defense held their own not giving up a whole lot against the weaker opponents. Though, I still sensed some ‘issues’ going into the season, as training camp was winding down, and once we got into the preseason. There were just way too many things that never added up or made any sense. The Teddy-move and then the JMac play is what put me over the edge tho!!!! I don’t think they know what the hell they’re doing, and there’s nothing that you or anyone else can say, that would make ME believe otherwise.
January 18th, 2026 at 9:45 pm
Deone Walker absolutely DOMINATED the line of scrimmage for Buffalo yesterday! DOMINATED. They moved him all up and down the line, too! He was UNBLOCK-ABLE when lined up more off the edge like he was most of the time at Kentucky! Hell, it’s 6’7” and 350lbs of ANIMAL coming at you, and he can move like a DE. It’s unbelievable. And, when he’s lined-up under center in more of a traditional NT position, they have to put TWO MEN on him and HE STILL pushes the pocket!!!! That BIG INT on 3rd-Down, showed his instincts, hands, and athletic ability, too. They starte him out up top on 1st-down, and he broke through like a fricken FREIGHT-TRAIN, with that one dude trying to hold onto his jersey, as he forced an early throw just to get rid of it! Then, he makes the stop with ‘two guys’ trying to hold him on back 2nd-Down, when lined-up directly under center. Then, the ‘pick’ coming from the near-side edge. He can play all up and down the line. What impressed me most though, was his STAMINA. The dude is still just a 21-YEAR OLD ROOKIE. He a FREAKING ANIMAL. Just an absolute MONSTER. At this rate he’s going to be THE BEST, MOST DOMINATE, UNBLOCK-ABLE DT in the game. Just an absolute GAME-WRECKER. I was literally begging for us to take HIM for the entire 2+MONTHS leading up to the draft.
January 18th, 2026 at 9:50 pm
^^^^^^ well we will never know! We for sure don’t have an ELITE QB!!!
January 18th, 2026 at 10:02 pm
HC Grover Says: “Bucs/Yucs are below average. Top to bottom. Heading down fast with Captain Bowzo.”
I totally agree with that 💯. I can’t see THIS roster (a year older), or THIS FO and Coaching staff being any better. But, I DO SEE ALL THREE of ATL/NO/CAR really improving and heading in the right direction. As of right now this very minute, I see next season as being a complete and total DISASTER. Which is fine, as long as they have enough sense to ‘pull-the-plug’ early enough on the season, in order to stockpile ‘picks’ in the upcoming ‘ALL-TIME’ LOADED 2027 Draft-Class.
January 18th, 2026 at 10:09 pm
What a bunch of garbage, we only have 3 NFL games left this season, and one college game.
What happened to the XFL USFL? They still in business?
January 18th, 2026 at 10:30 pm
It’s not saying much but Hall along with Diaby was actually our best defensive player down the stretch. You can’t accuse him of not giving everything on every snap either. I wouldn’t be against a short term, cheap extension, to see if he can continue to improve.
January 18th, 2026 at 10:47 pm
Please fire Bowles ASAP. Logan Hall is pure garbage. He’s not even average. He’s a waste. Bowles does not know true talent. I’ll be so glad when we are done with the following players:
LHall-Slow n clumpsy
Braswell-weak n slow to react
Dean-Yes he had three lucky ints but continue to drop to drop potential ints. Did u see the ints players made in the playoffs this weekend.
Otton-Too many balls taken from him. Can’t block.
Sterling Shepard- wasting a spot
Kindle Vildor- Garbage
Payne Durham-is also garbage n wasting a spot. Should be a baller at 6’7.
McCollum-Was playing better last year but seems to have regressed.
Bridgewater- His days are doomed, he needs to move on.
