Report: Todd Monken To Stick With John Harbaugh In New York

January 15th, 2026

“Scratch him off, Jason.”

It seems using Bruce Arians’ red pen to draw a line through the name of Todd Monken on the Bucs’ list of offensive coordinators would be appropriate.

Various report now claim recently-fired Ravens head coach John Harbaugh will be the New York Giants coach next season. Dianna Russini of TheAthletic.com reports Harbaugh will bring with him his former Ravens offensive coordinator, Monken. Russini says that’s always been Harbaugh’s plan.

Monken, per NFL Network, interviewed for the Buccaneers’ playcaller vacancy yesterday in Tampa.

Joe hopes Monken got a good meal out of it.

Tomorrow, the Bucs are expected to be interviewed offensive wizard and former Miami head coach Mike McDaniel for their offensive coordinator vacancy. McDaniel was fired last week after a 35-33 record over four seasons

  1. Bucsfan2023 Says:

McDaniel will not take an OC position considering he is on the HC list for a lot of teams.

  2. jug Says:

Licht with another bungled decision. First it was letting Coen leave now its not canning Bowels and bringing in Harbaugh and Monken. I really wish the Glazers would sell to someone who actually cares about the fans. Guaranteed season tickets diminish next year, at least for Bucs fans. @joe I would love to know those numbers if and when they come out

  3. BakerFan Says:

    McDaniel > Monken

  4. BakerFan Says:

    McDaniel > Bowles…. patience

  5. Tye Says:

Rumors going around say Harbaugh got released for not firing Monken…
IF SO, that action shows Harbaugh is loyal to Monken and that alone makes it HIGHLY likely they go together to their next team.

  6. SB~LV 🏈 Says:

    Of course!
    It’s not even close!
    Todd Bowels is
The Deter Principle of NFL head coaching
Evidently you can’t post PP so I used a D

  7. stucbuc Says:

Glazers keep digging deeper into the abyss sticking with TB.

  8. Obvious One Says:

If true it just means Monken isn’t head coach material (at least at this time) and his time for another opportunity is getting short. He’ll probably never be a head coach because it’s not for everybody. Just ask Todd Bowles..

  9. TBChucky Says:

    🤞Hoping for McDaniel too.. 🤞

  10. Davebucs Says:

Yes the Bucs should just take their time their interviews, it not like there are 9 other teams that have Vacancies.

  11. Saskbucs Says:

Throw the bag at McDaniel and give me a glimmer of hope for the season, where the OC and offense has to carry Bowles dead weight to the playoffs again!

Really wish in Bowles presser where he mentioned he won 3 straight Div titles, someone would have said … some would say Coen and his 4th ranked O won a Div title, not your 24th ranked D, thoughts on that coach? See if he wants to take credit for the offense and tip his hand as to how much he is involved there if at all.

  12. Matthew Lawrence Says:

Harbaugh wants his own GM just like Gruden a yes man. Glazers aren’t letting Jason go no way. Lets hope we land Mcdaniel.

  13. Tye Says:

There is a STRONG reason the Bucs ARE the BUTT of the NFL!

  14. 941bucsfan Says:

I thought harbaugh wanted his own GM when the bucs called… hahahaah… so let me get this straight he decided to work with Giants GM Joe Schoen… it just shows either bucs never called harbaugh… or harbaugh wanted no parts of Jason Licht… bad day for the licht fan boys

  15. SteveK Says:

I hope we can make Mike McDaniel one of the highest paid OCs in the league. His scheme is awesome. I believe he would also be enticing for Evans to return.

Hoping LaVonte gets healthy and comes back for one more hoorah, selfishly, I love the guy. Also, heard on a podcast recently LaVonte was getting his knee drained each week. I bet he could still play at a high level again, health allowed.

  16. Daryl Green Says:

    🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
I told ya’ll last night Lumpkin was going with Harbs.
silly rabbits, tricks are for kids.

  17. Cosmo Says:

Don’t let McDaniel leave the building. Give em a bunch of money. This is our opportunity to get competent offense. Baker is a perfect QB fit for McDaniel and we have all the pieces on offense. Don’t let him leave!

  18. HC Grover Says:

BA’s man is lurking. Leftowich. Maybe no one else want to ruin their reputation with Bowzo the Great.

  19. Obvious One Says:

Well, I suppose it’s Not For the guaranteed Top Spot on the grid iron so whether he goes with his loyal buddy (in this senerio I might too) or roll the dice that “maybe” the Glazers and or Licht are Total Idiots and continue to give Todd Bozo the Credit for YOUR AWESOME OFFENSE. I SURE see it from that angle. Kinda looks like he Would Be an IDIOT to work in that Fools Gold scenario now Wouldn’t It! THAT HAS BEEN the way it’s gone, Hasn’t IT!

  20. Letsbuccingo Says:

McDaniel is probably want more money than Bowles if so he’s not coming here

  21. Tampa2ATL Says:

    Aw, nuts.

  22. buccintimeforchanges Says:

Jason Licht is an amateur. 93-104 is that losers record

We aren’t winning anything with Licht as GM unless Brady comes back in a time machine. That was his big window. Pre Brady? Licht sucked. Post Brady. Licht still sucks.

Weird…wonder why Licht could only win when Brady was here?

    Joe’s riddle me that one?

  23. SB~LV 🏈 Says:

This could have all been avoided by doing the right thing last year and promote Liam to HC !
The arrow on the franchise direction has flipped from up to down 🔻
If Bowels and Licht are calling the shots we have a ground up rebuilding in our future!

  24. Kgh4life Says:

Not surprised by this move. TB is a lame duck and Harbaugh just signed with the Giants. Although Monken could’ve banked on himself and probably take over for Bowles.

  25. Alanbucsfan Says:

If the Bucs sign McDaniel as OC, is Tua coming with him?

  26. zzbucs Says:

Mc Daniel is not coming guys, unless they promise him he will be the next head coach next year…..Would Bowes do that? mmmmmmmm

  27. Daryl Green Says:

lol McD ain’t coming either🤣🤣 time out on the play, I would love to have him but he ain’t coming either watch.

  28. Ben Says:

Looks like its Mcdaniel or BUST

  29. Joe Says:

McDaniel will not take an OC position considering he is on the HC list for a lot of teams.

Being on a list is different than actually being hired. Allegedly he’s ready to be an OC wherever Mr. Clean is hired (if he is hired) as a head coach.

  30. ocala Says:

Does any of it matter with Bowles as the head coach? The team is too talented to be awful, but having the worst head coach in the NFL puts an iron ceiling on what the team can accomplish.

  31. Ben Says:

Looks like the Glazers didnt push hard to sell JL to Harbaugh. Giants are keeping their GM. Again malpractice by Glazers.

  32. SteveK Says:

I could see McDaniel coming to Tampa, gets to stay in FL, and would offer him a contingency to be HC if the offense is stellar and the reason the Bucs fail for make a HC change is bc the D is cheeks. Go Bucs!

  33. Deeboooo Says:

Good. We don’t want dinosaur play callers

  34. heyjude Says:

Alanbucsfan – I doubt it. McDaniel benched him for poor performance and put in Quinn. Mike would be great when we get a rookie backup QB for Baker.

  35. HC Grover Says:

The Glazerhouse cheapskates could of hired them. Down with the Culverglazers. Worst NFL owners.
    Manchester Buccaneers!

  36. Warren Brooks Lynch Says:

Harbaugh will be the Giants 7th HC since they fired Coughlin back in 2015. To me, that sounds like a team that’d have no problem giving a guy like Harbaugh sway or control over the front office. We’ll see how that works out for both parties, once Harbaugh starts trimming fat and getting his type of players in there.

  37. Steven007 Says:

Hey Grover, you’re done with them again?! You tell us everyday you’re done with them but yet here you are. Be done already. I support you.

  38. bucnjim Says:

Not sure why Monken even excepted the interview. He knew what was going on with Harbaugh. The same with McDaniel’s. Why even take a job interview when there are 8 vacant head coaching positions available? Unless he has no desire to be a HC again and wants to stay in Florida. You would think potential head coaches would wait until these positions are either full or you’ve been eliminated from the running.

  39. Baking with the next one Says:

Not surprised Monken might try again next year for HC because
    2026 is RINSE AND REPEAT

  40. Allen Lofton Says:

Hate to burst your bubble but the Glazers or any NFL owner are not playing for the fans. As owners their team is a business. Owners want their team to win. More wins means your franchise is worth more.

Every element of their team counts but money is #1. Profit is priority 1. Winning fans counts but Money rains 🌧 KING!!!

    RULE #1 IS MONNNEY.

  41. heyjude Says:

Hoping to see a Joe post here tomorrow saying that McDaniel is our new OC 🎉

We sort of had a feeling Monken would go with Harbaugh. It’s okay.

bucnjim – He has a young family and has moved around a lot in the past. Maybe, they would like to stay in FL and not have to go to another state. He can go back to his OC roots for a year, see how he does, and he could move into being HC for the Bucs. If he turns things around, the Glazers would need to pay him well too. Other teams will be watching.

  42. pelbuc Says:

This franchise is dead man walking as long as Bowles is HC. What competent coach would want to come here knowing they may be fired after one season? Glazers and Licht really stuck it to the fans. Why would they intentionally set the team back a few years? SMH!

  43. Alvin Scissors Harper Says:

With all these HC openings, I sincerely doubt we have any chance of landing McDaniel. The Glazers have completely blown this offseason and we’ll pay the price of another year with Toad at the helm.

  44. Buckit Says:

The Falcons could ramp up interest for McDaniel, now that Harbaugh is not in the mix. Let’s see if they call him back for a second interview. Unless McDaniel has a pre-conceived desire to join the Bucs i.e., stay in Florida, chance to succeed Todd, etc., it will be a long shot to hire him.

  45. Pewter Power Says:

Doesn’t matter people Coen gave Bowles a top 5 offense and Bowles gave Bucs fans 10 wins and no playoff wins. This will be a throwaway season because they retained Bowles.

  46. SB~LV 🏈 Says:

The Bumbling Brothers are the laughing stock of the NFL owners group, they probably have someone warn them to stop laughing just before they enter the room

  47. HC Grover Says:

The way to get by the BOWZO CURSE is not to care……if they win or lose. The Oh Well year is here.

  48. BucsFanSince1996 Says:

    Saskbucs Says:

    ———————————————————————————

Bowles DOES take some credit for that offense in 2024, because HE was the one who hired Coen.

As a HC in the NFL, you’re kind of like a CEO, and while you are the one ultimately responsible for when things go horribly wrong, as they did this past season, you do get credit when they go well, deservedly so.

While my preference would have been for Bowles to get replaced for 2026 if an upgrade could be hired, I don’t have BDS (Bowles Derangement Syndrome) like many Bucs fans. The defense has been horrible this year, but it’s not always been that way. In 2023, the Buccaneers’ defense was 7th in the NFL in points allowed per game. That was during a time when the salary cap was still a mess. The team was still climbing out of salary cap hell.

I’m certainly not celebrating that the Glazers retained Bowles for 2026, but I do see ways that the team can be very good, even with him as HC.

  49. Popmike66 Says:

The news this week is exactly what I have been mentioning when people are saying the Glazers don’t want to win. Why didn’t they go get this or that guy. Harbaugh chose the team and city he’s comfortable with NY. He could’ve when to Atlanta who has a lot good pieces on the team. Also, it looks like Monkin is going with him. Getting the HC or OC we fans want is not about the Glazers saving money or not trying. Also I am pretty sure the Glazers knew when Harbaugh got a job this cycle, Monkin most likely was going with him. In other words the Glazers are smart people and most likely have some kind of a plan even with not firing Bowles

  50. Aqualung Says:

Why would anyone good want to come work for the overdeployed two half job train wreck? The obvious move was not made after 2024. Coen was allowed to go. The only way someone good comes to the Toodster is if Jason and the Glazernauts wink at him and say that when they have to fire Tood half way through 2026, he will get the full time HC job.

  51. Bee Says:

If McDaniels comes to the Bucs it was probably his last choice. Not a lot on offense to be excited about. No OC wants to run a run first offense in the modern NFL.

Won’t be surprised if the Bucs wait to hire some around or after the Superbowl.

  52. I Remember 21 Says:

I understand his reasoning, but this is now the second time he’s spurned us. He should never get another interview in Tampa Bay.

  53. ChiBuc Says:

@Joe, that photo cracks me up. I cannot help but to think of Tweedle Dee and Tweedle Dumb when I see it. All they need are a couple of propeller beanies to cap off the weeble wobble bodies to complete the picture

    ————————————————————————————–

You’re engaging in a bit of historical revisionism. Coen agreed to stay in Tampa and become the highest-paid OC in the NFL. And then he went back on his word.

  55. AlstottNumber1 Says:

McDaniels will never tarnish his reputation by coaching under the yoke of a Toad Bowels Swiss cheese defense.

That would be outright career suicide. 32nd raked red zone defense!

Coen is a brilliant offensive coach and he made Baker look like a SB caliber QB.

And even with him on board we only mustered 10 wins and a miserable playoff loss. Zero punts to a rookie QB in his first playoff game. Pathetic.

TB zero was handed a SB ready team and he turned it into a dumpster fire.

  56. Lightningvinny1 Says:

McDaniel could lock in the Bucs job and also leave a week later for HC job, that would be the ultimate kick,,, we need some of these HC jobs to fill,,, Word is Stefanski to Atl ,,, we are gonna need some O to keep up with that

  57. Wayne perez Says:

Who ever jug is he’s not to Brite glaciers have won 2 superbowls they love us fans

  58. Rick Says:

Could see that coming a mile away

  59. Warren Brooks Lynch Says:

“Doesn’t matter people Coen gave Bowles a top 5 offense and Bowles gave Bucs fans 10 wins and no playoff wins.“

That offense crapped its pants at the end of its’ only playoff game with a costly turnover in a remake/break game scenario.

Coen had Travis Hunter running jet sweeps, some things don’t change.

  60. OLDSCHOOL1976 Says:

Here’s a positive spin on it. At least Harbaugh and Monken didn’t take the Atlanta openings.

  61. Tampa2ATL Says:

Warren Brooks Lynch has valid point on Head Coach Coen’s # of playoff wins = 0. Small data sample size…that’s true – which could be used either optimistically or pessimistic. Will Liar, ahem, Liam earn more playoff victories over a five year period? Or will this, his first, season be an anomaly with JAX never even making playoffs again?

Answer: It doesn’t matter. That horse is out of the barn. Gone, baby, gone.

  62. FormerBucFan Says:

Why would anyone want to come here. According to half the fans that post here and at least one Joe Baker sucks. Mike Evans is on social security. Chris Godwin isn’t far behind and damaged goods. Ebuka flashed in a few games early then flamed out. Bucky Irving was sucking in the preseason long before injury . Our tight end room is week and no depth on the line. No one is dying to be here…the Brady era is over

  63. Pewter Power Says:

    @Warren Brooks Lynch
Coen had Travis Hunter running jet sweeps, some things don’t change.

What is that a joke Travis Hunter? That’s why Coen has better weapons than us? Never mind the fact that he hasn’t played since week 7 at which point they were 4-3. Stop with the comedy. You think Coen crapped the bed and the defense couldn’t make the commanders punt or stop the team on 4th down huh🤔

  64. captivajim Says:

Maybe BA will make another visit to Bucs Place- And he’ll bring his old buddy Leftwich.

  65. Colonel Angus Says:

At least we got a leg up on Monkens interview for next year.

  66. Obvious Says:

If MM doesn’t get a HC job it’s hard to believe he won’t be looking to take the Detroit or Eagles gig if offered.

  67. Jmarkbuc Says:

I assume Mr. clean is Robert Saleh?

He does a great job with Defense, hard hitting, tough defense. I’d take him and MM as a package deal every day of the week and twice on Sunday.

  68. Stetematt Says:

I’d rather have McDaniel than Harbaugh/Monken.

  69. Warren Brooks Lynch Says:

“What is that a joke Travis Hunter? That’s why Coen has better weapons than us?”

    Connect the dots.

WR run, McMillain on a designed end-around because the OC got cute, and the exchange got botch. Opposing defense recovers scores instead of us.

Travis Hunter, amazing athelte, charted as a WR. Taking hand offs behind the LOS, no consideration for him not being the biggest guy, but the HC likes to get cute still

    C’mon man

  70. Warren Brooks Lynch Says:

Also, yes I do think inspite of how bad the defense was, but that doesn’t excuse the offense that was also tasked with taking advantage of the rare time our D rose to the occasion in that game to literally fumble the opportunity away.

We were we had something like 80 yards away, I believe the ball was on the 15/17 yard line, that’s not WR run territory my guy. Unless you got Cordarrelle Patterson or freaking Percy Harvin taking that handoff, don’t be cute just run us into better territory. THEN get cute

Situational ball isn’t a complex thing and all you gotta do is be able to pay attention for 2-4 drives.

I agree, Coen IS a brilliant offensive coach, but there have been times that Baker has played great without Coen.

He was a legitimate MVP candidate this past season before the bye week.

    I think he’s going to ATL too…or maybe TEN…

being an OC is his last choice

    GO BUCS!!!!

  73. Tom Petty Says:

We need young blood BUT NOT a newbie to calling plays. It would seem that Mcdaniels would be a very good candidate.

He’s proven himself to be creative and adaptable and and scheme his offenses to be QB friendly. He has enough ego, confidence, and clout to be assertive. Be a great place to restore his rep as an offensive guru before jumping back into another (potentially disastrous) HC situation again.

Detroit may get him though…. They’ve got a lot of talent on O.
I mentioned a real dark horse before – Dan Orlovsky. Rumours he would leave TV to be OC @ Detroit. I predict he’ll be an OC somewhere sooner or later.

“I agree, Coen IS a brilliant offensive coach, but there have been times that Baker has played great without Coen.

I agree that he played great to start the season. Without him we likely go 4-13 and Bowles would almost certainly be gone. Baker was the lone bright spot of the season before the bye.

However, with Coen he had more completions, and a higher completion percentage than any other year in his career. And 41 TDs with Coen verses never reaching 29 TDs any other year.

And instead of making Coen the HC, the Glazers decided to stick with Bowles.

The Jags went 13-4 after being 4-13 the year prior. Losing to the Bills in a close competitive game in the playoffs is way better than being embarrassed because your defense couldn’t stop a wet fart.

  75. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

    Dodged one there!

  76. buc4evr Says:

Bet Falcons get McDaniel as HC.

  77. Curse of Gruden Says:

Don’t let McDaniel leave the building without signing.
