Mike Kafka Next To Interview For Bucs’ OC Job

January 13th, 2026

Interviewing for Bucs’ OC gig.

Joe has always been intrigued by former Bucs backup quarterback Mike Kafka.

It’s nothing that he ever did with the Bucs. He didn’t do anything.

He never saw the field for the Bucs except during worthless preseason games. Kafka played in four games for the Eagles. That’s his NFL playing experience.

Per Jeremy Fowler of ESPN, Kafka will interview today for the Bucs’ open offensive coordinator position.

The Northwestern grad went right into coaching after his playing career, going back to his alma mater for one year before landing a gig working for Andy Reid and the Chiefs. In five years in Kansas City, Kafka worked his way up the ladder. He was the Chiefs’ passing game coordinator when the Bucs stomped Pat Mahomes and the Chiefs in the Super Bowl.

Since 2022, Kafka has been the offensive coordinator of the Giants. The fact Daniel Jones got better when he got away from Kafka is not a good sign.

Kafka also liked to run the ball in New York. Who wouldn’t when you have Saquon Barkley?

The thing that intrigues Joe about Kafka is that he learned and was seasoned working with the master, Reid. Maybe Kafka was handcuffed by Brian Daboll? Who knows?

Joe would be shocked if Bucs coach Todd Bowles hires yet another offensive coordinator who has never called plays. That’s why Joe isn’t willing to write off Kafka. He’s called plays.

Kafka just needs to lean on that Reid magic, probably a little bit more.

The Giants? As in New York city giants??? Yeeesh

  2. I Remember 21 Says:

The scraping of the bottom of the barrel continues. And like so many of the names we’re hearing, he is focused on the running game. A pretty bold strategy since we have 2 $20 million WRs and one of the deepest WR rooms in the league.

  3. BigZ Says:

Sounds like a TB and JL hire, boring and cheap.

Our only hope is if Tomlin get the boot.

  4. Colonel Angus Says:

    Bring Grizz back

  5. Baking with the next one Says:

    Possible
    2026 is RINSE AND REPEAT

  6. Baking with the next one Says:

BigZ I’m also hoping for Tomlin

  7. SB~LV 🏈 Says:

Todd Bowels should not be hiring anyone!

  8. Bee Says:

Lol…hey they gotta see who’s out there and talk to everyone. That being said I hope they have others theyre interested in thats still in the playoffs.

When they hire the passing game coordinator from South Dakota Junior Community College to be the OC, dont be mad. Just know it’s all a part of the plan. Good to see the HC and QB attracting the most talented coaches available.

  9. Lessismore Says:

Bee wins the lol comment of the day.

  10. BuccinBaker6, Says:

To be honest I think the Giants looked pretty good on offense when he took over as HC an let’s be honest you have to think about what he can do when he would have our weapons I think he would do great he is young an his guys in New York played hard for him I wouldn’t mind him in Tampa the Lions also interviewed him for a OC job so he’s not a scrub y’all

  11. DailyRich Says:

    They’re interviewing Monken on Wednesday.

  12. Senor Harry in Costa Rica Says:

“Our only hope is if Tomlin get the boot.”

I don’t get the Tomlin love. He is a good coach, don’t get me wrong. But he is a Todd Bowles clone – a defensive focused coach who has no offense – has not had any kind of offense in years – and doesn’t get much out of his expensive defense. Like Bowles, he gets his team to the playoffs and lays an egg. 6 points Monday night!!!

I don’t get throwing names out there, like lets get Gruden or Mike McCarthy. McCarthy has a decent record. But he had Bret Farve, Aaron Rodgers and Dak Prescott!!! What the heck did he ever do with the Cowboys?!

I love McDaniel. McD has coached up Tua since he arrived in Miami. Tua’s QB rating before McD was 87 in ’20, and 90 in ’21. After McD arrived Tua’s QB rating shot up until this year when Tua crashed and burned:

    Year – TDs:INT-QB rating
    2022 – 25:8 –- 105.5
    2023 – 29:14 – 101.1
    2024 – 19:7 –- 101.4
    2025 – 20:15 – 88.5

I would also take a look at Brian Daboll. I don’t understand why he does not get more interest. Yea, he sucked as a head coach. But IMO, Daboll developed Josh Allen. He was the Bills OC when the drafted Allen. Allen was recognized as being physically gifted, but very inaccurate. That changed under Daboll.

  13. Wouldn’t pay a single Buc to see this squad Says:

We are so genius that people don’t even understand our methods. Lololol. We should have Byron and Bruce lead the interviews and selection. Just idiots hiring their boys to get paid on the Glazers dime. None of the people interviewed are worth the dump I flushed 2 hours ago.

  14. buc4evr Says:

Actually the passing coordinator from South Dakota Junior Community College probably has more experience than Grizzard did, so consider it a step up. lol.

  15. JimBobBuc Says:

Glazers going cheap and tanking in 2026.

  16. Bucman Says:

    How about a NEW D/C?????????????????

  17. Beeej Says:

Monken, else dude from the Rams

  18. Bee Says:

    Buc4evr

    🤣🤣

  19. Colin in Canada Says:

Brian Daboll would be worth a look.

  20. Warren Brooks Lynch Says:

“Monken, else dude from the Rams“

Somebody is going to throw a lot of money and the opportunity for Scheelhaase to run his own team in 2026.

“I would also take a look at Brian Daboll. I don’t understand why he does not get more interest. Yea, he sucked as a head coach”

Runs a loose ship, and was not all that good as an HC in his time in NY. Was told he let a lot of thing that’d be disciplinary offenses slide in his last few years as Giants HC. We don’t need any pushovers here.

  21. Bobby M. Says:

We’re stalling in hopes of someone becoming available or waiting to see how the dominoes start to fall in the hiring cycle as teams are eliminated from the playoffs. I think the Bucs are intrigued by Harbaugh who likely includes Monken. But Harbaugh is eyeballing a playoff team…possibly the Bills or Packers. These guys we’re bringing in can’t be real candidates, his coaching career is on the hot and I can’t see him or the Bucs pinning their hopes to someone unproven.

  22. Leopold Stotch Says:

You guys are ridiculous. The giants actually had a decent offense once Dart was in as qb. Skattebo was dynamic, he got the TE involved a bit. If Nabers was healthy, they’d have been better. I’d be happy with him as OC

  23. BigZ Says:

Harry in Costa… you offer Daboll over Tomlin. Funny.
Tomlin never had a losing record in 19 years and a Lombardi. Additionally, they play in a lot more difficult division. Thats not a Bowles clone, if so no one would call for Bowles’ job.

Look at his QBs were after Ben.

I guess you missed the Steelers O when Ben was there. I guess you missed the pass rushers he developed. I guess you missed him taking over after Cower, which was not easy.

Tomlin would have a job before he cleaned his office out.

Where’s Daboll’s current HC job? Hes another Freddie Kichens.

  24. heyjude Says:

Still hoping for Scheelhaase, McDaniel, or Monken.

  25. AlstottNumber1 Says:

Is this the same “Joe” that pounded the table for the Bucs to sign Hassan Reddick?

The same “Joe” that coined the term Americas QB for Jameis Winston?

And the same “Joe” that chortled after the loss to the Commanders at home in the playoffs about Bowles not going anywhere?

Yeah, hard pass on anything that “Joe” offers up as a good signing.

  26. Ugo Says:

Big Z he is offering Daboll as an OC not a Head Coach. Daboll is a bad HC but a good OC. I would take Mike “mediocrity personified” Tomlin as a Head Coach anyways, we would be back to winning the division and first round exit every year.

  27. Marcus Says:

Just saw an article from Tampa Tribute that Todd Monken is interviewing for Bucs OC position. There’s some light at the end of the tunnel.

  28. Capeaceiskaput Says:

I don’t have a good feeling about any of these coordinators they are talking to. I have a weird feeling we are going to end up with another Jeff Jagawhatever his name was. If I were the Glazers, I would throw a ton of money at Mike McD. Pay him almost as much as Bowels. We need to stay relevant on that side of the ball. We can’t count on our Defense suddenly improving enough to win games when the offense struggles to get 20 points. You also need someone that Mike Evans will stick around for. If I’m Evans and they hire a nobody or has been, then I’m taking off to Kansas City, San Fran, or Houston. All teams that win and need a guy like Mike.

  29. Aqualung Says:

The Loser will choose a loser. Here’s another example of a dude who won’t upstage His Failureness.

  30. It's Corn Says:

Or you could just hire an offensive mind as head coach and problem solved.

  31. PCola BUCS Says:

Bowles is not getting fired no matter how much some of you want that to happen. Maybe next year but get over it. Also, the only OCs out there are the ones that got fired, we aren’t giving up draft picks to grab an awesome play caller from another team so we either roll the dice with an up and comer like we’ve done for the last 3 years or we grab someone else’s dirty laundry.

  32. Rocket10 Says:

Doesn’t matter who they get for Off Coordinator, until they upgrade O line
If they do then anybody will be successful
It ain’t the X’s and O’s but the jimmies and joes

  33. Rocket10 Says:

I might add if you have an excellent O line then almost every starting QB in the league will be outstanding, if you’re O line sucks there are only a handful of QB’s who can turn chicken—- into Chicken salad

  34. Aqualung Says:

No one is getting over Tood being around another year, because he should have been handed a pink slip after the collapse against the Falcons.

    3rd and 28!

So he fires everyone else, who he hired. Must be all of them. Right. Clownzo should be lecturing at Temple by now.

That is egregious incompetence on the part of ownership and Licht. And Jason has now gotten into the career casket with Tood. When he goes 4-13, it’’ll be easy at that point for ownership to hit the full reset button. Jason can join BA in Georgia.

  35. jcscycles Says:

Todd Moncken is coming for an in person

  36. jcscycles Says:

Todd Moncken is coming for an in person interview tomorrow.

  37. Keep Your Moneys Says:

Just goes to show people have surface level knowledge about the game. People saying “Giants??? Yikes!”, imagine if the patriots said that about Vrabel? Bill Belichick? Pete Carroll? Dan Reaves? Hell even Tony Dungy! Coaches that fell short/did awful to go to another team and have great success (Vrabel is too early but this season obv is great). Go watch the film, do some research before wasting space and data on the internet spewing nonsense about something you have no clue on.
