Report: Bucs To Interview Failed Falcons Offensive Coordinator Zac Robinson

January 9th, 2026

Sorry, Joe is a”no” on hiring fired Falcons playcaller Zac Robinson to be the next Bucs offensive coordinator.

The NFL Network ticker says Robinson is to be interviewed for the Bucs playcaller vacancy.

Joe watched all but two Falcons games this year. And that experience has Joe comfortably saying if the Bucs hire Robinson, then they probably should have kept defrocked offensive coordinator Josh Grizzard instead.

Yes, Robinson, 39, is from the Sean McVay tree, but he has yet to blossom. The former Oklahoma State quarterback and Seahawks, Lions and Bengals backup retired after the 2014 season and landed on McVay’s Rams staff in 2019 as a QB coach.

He joined the Falcons as offensive coordinator with then-head coach Raheem Morris in 2024.

Robinson had weapons and talent at quarterback but the Falcons offense was unimpressive overall when it wasn’t playing a Todd Bowles defense.

Joe realizes Robinson has a relationship with Baker Mayfield, which is nice, but that should not be a major factor.

  1. Dom Says:

Hoping they are just getting the worst candidates out of the way

  2. Buc4ever Says:

    joking

  3. It's Corn Says:

if this guy were any good, Raheem would still have a job.

  4. Ben Says:

Wow, Callahan now Robinso, really moving the needle Todd. Todd needs a top 5 offense or he toast next year, which is prob the case anyways knowing no one wants to come here.

  5. Ken Says:

Does Todd even want to find the next brilliant OC, knowing this time glazers wont make the same mistake with Coen, and fire him to retain said OC if he gives us a top offense again?

  6. Alstott40 Says:

Bowles thinking “Well he torched my incredible defense twice a year, kid must be good!”

  7. Lakeland Says:

The Bucs will be doing a lot of interviewing

But it’s good they are interviewing experienced offensive coordinators

  8. Ufc Says:

Guys job is on the line and he still cant even get this right its literally insane tbh. If im the Blazers id just fing fire him right now. You clearly cant fing use any kind of discernment on what we need and its evident just in the first two candidates. Bunch of lazy bums this group

  9. Redzone Says:

I hate this team worse by the day

But I’ll just suck it up and smile and nod and give these cheap bastages owners money or else be called “not a true fan”

  10. Aqualung Says:

Looks like Loser Belows wants other losers he can blame for his own failures.

  11. Bee Says:

Don’t worry guys these are the early prospects. Once the playoffs are over then you’ll all the talented OCs lineup for a one year job.

What will attract a talented OC to work with the Bucs? Who on this roster is a consistent gamechanger that a coach wants to work with? Now compare that answer with other teams and the Bucs are lacking. But it’s still early and things can change quickly, so we’ll see.

    They’re probably grab a college coach…

  12. Pewter Power Says:

Bucs? No Todd Bowles to interview Zac Robinson. He was called a king maker before so don’t blame the Bucs whoever is hired is 100% on Bowles.

  13. buc4evr Says:

ugh. Obviously McDaniel is looking for another Head Coaching job. This could turn into a worse situation than just keeping Grizzard. How about firing Bowles, hiring McDaniel as HC and OC and getting a real DC.

  14. LouisFriend Says:

So grateful to have the Lightning’s winning distract me from being angry at these moves. Whatever the Bucs are doing right now it doesn’t seem to have much to do with contending. Every last move over the last week is to keep them treading water and that’s it.

  15. Lakeland Says:

    I believe in the Glazers
    They are excellent NFL owners

We lost 10 games or more, 12 consecutive seasons
Then the Glazers bought the team in 1995
And everything changed, we won a Super Bowl 7-8 years later
The Glazers has 2 Super Bowl in last 25 years
Only a few teams has more during that time

I have faith and trust in the Glazers.
They know what they are doing

  16. Ncalbucfan Says:

    Guys,
It’s what every freaking team does. It’s called kicking the tires. I’d be upset if they didn’t interview Robinson. You cast a wide net, especially if the coach you’re interviewing was in your division. It’s like a form of self scouting. Worst case is it get information on what they saw against your defense, how they would improve your offense, etc. you can then use the information to bounce off and compare and contrast answers from subsequent coaches your interviewing.

What a strange fan base, even when the Bucs do it right, they get bashed…..

  17. John Mason Says:

Zac Robinson…..Really!!!…This is a total waste of time…the guy sucks…If the Buc’s hire this dude RIP Buc’s Our owners must be the laughing stock of the NFL….Keeping Bowles as DC then lets say having Zac Robinson be the OC …I don’t think I could ever watch another game. This is a nightmare ..plz someone wake me up!

  18. stucbuc Says:

It didn’t really matter. As long as TB is the HC this team isn’t going anywhere.

  19. Obvious Says:

Do you really believe that that this isn’t intentional?

The glazers are on a year long head coaching search.

I don’t trust them to get it correct….they have a poor history of hiring young coaching talent. But at least they are setting themselves up to do their research.

You can’t fire the owner. Let’s see if they get it right.

  20. Popmike66 Says:

Joe I’ll take word on Robison you are the second person that said Robison’s offense wasn’t impressive however, when I looked at his offense stats passing rushing and overall offensive stats they all were in the top 10. The first year was kinda shake but still it the top10 and year 2 seems had been a little better

  21. White Tiger Says:

    Sounds a lot like Grizz

  22. Ricky Says:

    Tank for draft pick year.

  23. Lakeland Says:

The Glazers know Todd Bowles isn’t their future HC
They have a plan in place
And you better believe it’s a good plan

This fan base need to be patient
It’s not only Todd Bowles, that they have to decide on
They also have to make a decision on Baker Mayfield

But right now, they’re trying to find the right fit for Baker

If the Bucs don’t produce in 2026
We will see a lot of changes

  24. Ricky Says:

Glazers one of the worst ownership in the league.
    Dont have faith in them.

We dont need 2026 to know Bowles is incompetent, they didnt have to extend his contract. What was the reason for doing that? Except being bad owners. Bowles jas already stayed two years longer that he should have.

The only plan is be ready when Joe Burrow asks to be traded from Bengals.

  25. kgh4life Says:

No accomplished OC wants to come coach for a lame duck, even with talent at wr.

  26. Popmike66 Says:

As I’ve heard and read here many times, the Bucs may have some issues luring a top coordinator here due to Bowles status. We all know that if Bowles don’t win in 26 he’s most likely gone, thats one and done. Bowles is around 62 years old maybe the Bucs can bring a strong candidate with the promise of the HC Job is theirs either way, if Bowles fails and is moved into the office or retires. Not sure if that is even legal in the NFL. Also not sure the Bucs would fire which is why I mentioned move to the office

  27. Steve Says:

Could it be they’re going through the motions for now and are waiting to see who materializes after this weekends games. Also could it be possible that Bowles job isn’t as safe as what we’re being led to believe. say for instance the Packers and Bills both lose and the coaches get fired, would the Glazers actually pass on the chance of landing McDermott or LaFleur either of which would be a huge upgrade over Bowles. Heck for that matter pretty much any coach from a losing team after this weekend would be better than what the Bucks have right now.

  28. Obvious One Says:

THIS!… That’s EXACTLY what we Sure NEED! Another Failed OC to RUN US DIRECTLY RIGHT BACK INTO THE GROUND! BRILLIANT!

  29. LFGBucs Says:

All duds so far. Makes it seem like they want to lose.

  30. HC Grover Says:

    Pathetic

  31. FortMyersDave Says:

Zac knew enough to target Kyle Pitts so he can outcoach Bowles bur who cannot?????

  32. Mark Says:

Todd is afraid to hire a good OC because he doesn’t want to be replaced next year by someone he hired this year.

  33. Gofortheface30 Says:

Talent at Quarterback? You are talking about the Atlanta Falcons correct?

  34. Muscle Hampster Says:

Sometimes you need to see the bottom to see the top

  35. Ke Says:

Nobody wants to come here and work under Todd. They know there will have to put 40 points each week in order to win because the defense can’t get the job done. Smh

  36. JohnQCitizen Says:

Hiring Robinson would be stupid. The Bucs will probably do it.

  37. Hodad Says:

He was good enough to help the Falcons finish with a four game winning streak. Good enough to come up with a 3rd, and 28 play, and a 4th, and 15. Meanwhile Baker was throwing game winning picks.

  38. Curse of Gruden Says:

Is this the best Todd can do?

  39. Davenport Says:

Another failed coach – i’m afraid that’s all that will be interested in the job: experienced failures or first timers, what a time to be alive.

Who’s idea was it to give Bowles a contract extension?

  40. Nutterbuccer Says:

Zac Robinson isnt thst bad lol penix is god awful relax. Just interview simmer down fellas

  41. Scotty in Fat Antonio Says:

It’s a shame there aren’t ANY? hot shot college OCs or defensive coaches out there versus the retread NFL coaches.

  42. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

Zac Robinson is more about intelligence gathering on the Falcons. Not actually hiring him.

Plus, it might not be for the offensive coordinator position. He has been a Pass game coordinator/quarterbacks coach in the past.

Too many people jumping to conclusions.

  43. Defense Rules Says:

Forbes has the Bucs’ franchise valued at $6.6 billion as of late 2025 (CNBC valued it at $7.3 billion in Sep 2025). Malcolm paid a mere $192 mil for the Bucs in 1995, so that’s pretty massive return on investment (ROI) over the past 30 years.

Folks who own investments like that don’t run them haphazardly. They can afford to employ some top advisors to keep that puppy running very profitably. In those 30 years only 14 teams have won at least 1 Super Bowl (Patriots 6; Broncos 3; Chiefs 3; Bucs 2; Rams 2; Ravens 2; Steelers 2; Giants 2; Eagles 2; Packers 2; Seahawks 1; Saints 1; Colts 1; Cowboys 1). I’d say our 2 SB victories look pretty good compared to the 18 NFL teams who have none in that timeframe.

When they bought the franchise from Mr Culverhouse, the Glaziers got a new stadium built & hired an outstanding (now in the HOF) head coach, Tony Dungy. Since then, 2 HCs stand out for coaching us to Super Bowl victories, Jon Gruden & Bruce Arians. Several others weren’t as fortunate. The thing that Dungy, Gruden & Arians had in common? All 3 had excellent defenses while they coached. Two were well-known for their offensive backgrounds, and yet their DEFENSES ranked in the Top-10 and made a world of difference.

The Bucs’ defenses these past 2 years have been reminescent of what we saw in the 2010’s … mediocre Bucs’ defenses. That’s NOT our heritage, and I have trouble believing that the Glazers are willing to accept THAT as our new standard. And that’s what they’ll be doing if they keep Todd Bowles as our DC. HIS defensive scheme has failed us.

Ronde Barber’s assessment of 2 days ago says it all IMO:

“No matter who you put in there [in the secondary], every single one of them struggled. There was clearly a lack of understanding of what was going on in their defense. So, I think that’s where the change has come; and it’s not going to be because of Todd. Right?”

“he (Bowles) let them down. He did not give them a consumable defense that they can play fast. If there’s one quick criticism I have of Todd, it’s that. They don’t play fast enough because there’s so much confusion play-in/play-out and it leads to big plays — over and over and over guys being open that shouldn’t be open.”

That looks to be a totally fair assessment of the Bowles’ scheme. New ‘teachers’ who teach the same old stuff won’t fix that. New youngsters manning starting positions won’t fix that. IT’S THE SCHEME THAT’S FAULTY. The Glaziers can keep Todd as their HC, but he NEEDS to being in a new DC with fresh ideas. More of the same will yield the same results.

  44. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

As to saying that no offensive coordinator wants to come because Bowles is a lame duck couch:

🏈 If the team wins, he won’t be a lame duck coach.
🏈 If the offensive coordinator does a good job he could be a head foach next year, possibly for the Bucs.
🏈 Absolutely no one can honestly predict next year’s record…because so much is in the process of changing: a bunch of new coaches, 2-3 new coordinators, healthy players, etc.

  45. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

    “coach”

  46. Red Skeleton Says:

Any good numbers on his resume is because he got to face the Bucs defense twice a year which would make any offense look good.

  47. Larrd Says:

All currrnyly unemployed NFL coaches are “failed.”

  48. OLDSCHOOL1976 Says:

I’d like to think we can do better but who really wants an OC job with Todd as your boss?

  49. Lightningvinny1 Says:

Falcons O always made us look bad ,, the guy comes from the right tree and has 2 years of play calling under his belt ,, im for McDaniel or Daibol but we could do worse than ZR

  50. Oscar Says:

Too bad for Baker that he’s not a selfish sob! He almost got run out of the league for playing badly injured in 2021 and now after 2 and 1/2 years of very good play for the Bucs, even to the point of being the front runner for MVP the first half of this year, he does the same thing playing hurt when he should have been sitting. The narrative would be so much different if he had only let Teddy preside over the face plant that was this season. Everyone would now be saying that everything would have been different if Baker didn’t get hurt. Such warped thinking! Purdy sat with his bad toe and Lamar sat with his litany of injuries. When it comes to Baker Mayfield in the minds of some idiots, if he plays injured and his play suffers, there are no excuses. If he doesn’t play then he is injury prone and therefore not viable. I view this year as a valiant effort on his part to salvage what could be salvaged of the season in spite of injuries all around him in addition to his own, combined with a horrible season by the defense and special teams.

  51. Badbucs Says:

@DR Once again you identify the exact problem. Same scheme equals same result. To add to that, the players all know the scheme doesn’t work. New assistants teaching the same system will fail also. If Todd didn’tose the locker room last year, surely it will happen this year. The players know where the problem is. They know it is affecting their future. Few of them will talk other players into coming here to fail. If Todd is too stubborn, this is destined to failure or mediocrity at best.

  52. Robbery727 Says:

For 15 years I’ve had season tickets. And I won’t attend another game until Toilet Bowles is gone. He should of been fired for letting leftwich ruin Bradys last season. He’s under coached our teams every single year, and we’ve been loaded with talent. Ya know some guys aren’t tbuilt to be HC’s, they are just good coordinators. Well that ship has sailed too. And for some reason team glazer loves the guy. Defensive guru? Look at the stats, the game has passed him by and the bucs need to lead him out to the pasture. Like they let the guy who should be leading us do. To lead alphas, you should be one yourself, and he’s a beta at best. Look at the style of coaches who have won us a Ring, because is a far cry from either one of those guys

  53. Marky mark Says:

They are honing their interview skills. The goid ones, are in the playoffs. A!ex Van Pelton baby.
