Bucs Adopted The Personality Of Their Head Coach. And It’s Not Working.

December 28th, 2025

An old cliché is biting Tampa Bay in the ass.

It is said that teams adopt the personality of their head coach. Todd Bowles is a steady and stoic guy who takes pride in a very even approach and never wavering too high or too low.

And it seems the Bucs have become that version of Todd Bowles. Over the past two months the team collectively simply will not play with its hair on fire or bring a consistent every-blade-of-grass mentality.

It’s been awful to watch and today it was more of the same — a lifeless effort that saw three of the team’s biggest stars make huge mistakes in big moments: Baker Mayfield, Mike Evans and Antoine Winfield, Jr.

Heck, two weeks ago Bowles even stepped out of himself for 25 seconds with a historic profanity-laced rant at a news conference and that didn’t shake his team into urgency.

Big game? You won’t catch Bowles going there.

Did the Bucs look like the hungriest and most physical team today against the tanking Dolphins and their seventh-round rookie quarterback?

Logic says letting Bowles continue to be head coach will deliver more of the same weak sauce.

Teams are supposed to play their best ball in December, not their worst.

  1. Greg Says:

    Could have had Coen

  2. Jake Hammer Says:

Fire Todd now. Absolutely pathetic. Total loser.

  3. Jason Anthony Sturgess Says:

What is it going to take to get Todd Bowles & Rod Munch fired?

  4. Steven #55 Says:

Lack of effort in all 3 phases
    No Accountability

  5. Tucker Says:

    Cya todd

  6. Mike Johnson Says:

If our Bucs lose next sunday? Bowles is certainly fired. Thus, I hope we lose. Besides an 8-9 team does not deserve to be in any playoffs. If you want Bowles gone, Hope for us to lose next week. If we win? He’s back for another No defense and mediocre season. This team needs new coaching blood.

  7. Brian Says:

Missing out on Coen is gonna set this franchise back big time. We all see this team needs a change at head coach, but who are we gonna hire????

  8. Curse of Gruden Says:

    But are you inspired?

  9. heyjude Says:

So disappointing. Thought for sure we would win this one. Miami looked prepared. Feel bad for Mike, Chris, Jalen, Lavonte, and others that were really trying to get it done.

  10. Les Says:

Get out of town Todd. You to light you blew it with Cohen and for what ? Bowles ? Dumb ass !

  11. Greg-therealone Says:

I turned it off right after half time. It was clear that the 2nd half was going to be worse that the first half.

  12. KingBob Says:

Bowles is a DC at best. He’s never been a head coach

  13. Told You Says:

    ABSOLUTELY SPOT ON!!!!!

  14. Ballwasher61 Says:

At this point I would rather them be known as the biggest collapse in franchise history than see them back into a playoff spot or the South title with what they have done since the bye week. Fire every single one of them. Players included. This is the most pathetic display of football I have witnessed from this team. And it’s not on the defense this week, the offense is just as putrid and weak sauce sisters. If the ownership and management of this team isn’t throwing chairs and streaming F-bombs like they’re channeling Bucco Bruce then there is the problem. If Licht is gone then I like the guy under him to replace him.

  15. stucbuc Says:

What a disaster of a season. The sad part about all this is we’re probably looking at another lost decade Joe. Will the glazers find the right leadership, coaching, players and culture. How I miss BA and the Brady days. What a cluster f—-k of a team.

  16. Thisisouryear!!!! Says:

I agree. Fire him today!!!!!!! 100% lost the team. Sad David retires on this type of season and we will probably lose Evans from this season.

  17. SickofThisShip Says:

Well let’s all hope Rapoport is wrong, because otherwise the Glazers are prepared to run it on back, like a bout of explosive diarrhea.

  18. heyjude Says:

The Glazers will not fire Todd today. And who would be the coach, Grizz? No.

  19. Jason Anthony Sturgess Says:

Make the Special Teams Coach the Head Coach next season!

  20. Curse of Gruden Says:

Stevie Wonder can see that Todd needs to go.

  21. TS_Bucs Says:

No need to comment that Todd should go. His work is what it is. If the Buccaneers as an organization think his work is worth it. Then we know exactly what the Buccaneers ownership is about… And that appears to be selling the team to the Saudi crown prince. Because they certainly aren’t interested in winning anymore.

  22. D-Mac Says:

Fire the joke of a head coach, now!!!

  23. Jason Anthony Sturgess Says:

Bowles lost this game when he didn’t go for it on 4th and less than 1 at the 50

  24. Ballwasher61 Says:

And I don’t EVEN want to hear a comment from anyone on the team, there is nothing you can say that would even make sense unless it’s “we’ve sucked”. They could have been a fairly dominant team even with the injuries. Joe you are right about the persona of this team following the coach and it looks like a lost team all the way around. Milk toast.

  25. Curse of Gruden Says:

Bowles been waiting for four years to call his secret on-side kick play.

  26. Curse of Gruden Says:

I’ll say it Ballwasher61, the Bucs smell.

  27. BucsFan81 Says:

That’s it we’re getting Flexed next week to prime time lol if you win your in

  28. Jason Anthony Sturgess Says:

Todd need to resign in 5 minutes

  29. Nicholas Carlson Says:

I feel abused as a fan

  30. D-Rome Says:

LOL, Joe you had this article ready to go a week ago. 😄

  31. Obvious Says:

It’s frustrating and funny. We see the same posts and same responses every week for multiple months.

I’m not knocking Joe or the fans. It’s your job to cover the team and our job to be passionate. But you could actually copy and paste the last seven weeks of these articles…which of course proves your point.

    Offense – clueless
    Defense – heartless
    ST – incompetent

Bowles – obviously it falls on the HC. That’s how this biz works.
Grizzard – in way over his head
    Mayfield – regressed quickly.

If Rapoport is correct and the glazers don’t fire the HC it can only be because of $$. And if that happens – what a horrible message to send your customers.

I just don’t see any other choice than to focus on a young OC as the new HC to hopefully salvage mayfield in ‘26. Bringing back this leadership will absolutely mean you are looking at drafting a qb in ‘27.

  32. Ballwasher61 Says:

Curse of Gruden I was saying a lot of things along with everyone else here on this site but can’t type.

  33. Buc in VA Says:

He has to go today, if there is to be any remote chance of a win next week … or of keeping fans engaged with this garbage performance week after week.

  34. Bnasty25 Says:

He was smiling while we were losing!!!

  35. Bucs East Coast Says:

You know if they lost fighting I’d be fine.

This is a team that the last three games v has had them at +7 or so and they lost.

They are playing below their talent.

    They are playing flat.

This isn’t w product to be excited about.

  36. DBS Says:

I hope we don’t beat Carolina. Back in to the playoffs they’re going to be eliminated by the end of the first half. Please don’t give them a reason to keep Bowles and this staff.

  37. Timon Says:

Baker Mayfield sucks along with the defense. But at least they’re having “fun”

  38. heyjude Says:

Bnasty25 – I saw him grinning at one point too. Not understanding that either. A little eerie.

  39. Ballwasher61 Says:

Obvious you said what, sadly, is correct. I don’t want to be the rooster that crawls atop a dung heap to crow but what does that say about 7 weeks of the same posts? No one wants to hear anyone bash the team, certainly not 7 weeks ago but geez all those folks look like Nostradomus.

  40. BucU Says:

And the historic slide continues. If Bowels doesn’t resign tonight he has no self respect at all. He’s a miserable failure. Thats not debatable. Blow this whole god damn thing up.

  41. JoeyJoeStein Says:

I just inspired a log out of my rectal area. This mass represents the team/coaching effort as it swirls down the thunder bucket

  42. HIGH KARD ACE Says:

    BB & M. McDaniels
    In
    2026

  43. Miller5252 Says:

Sure would be nice to hear one day what happened to this team and caused the historic collapse. Gotta be a heck of a story

  44. unbelievable Says:

Been telling y’all this since week 7.

Something happened between the Saints and Lions games… the team broke. Instead of regrouping during the bye week, they broke down. Every level of offense, defense and special teams has regressed. Except to be fair to special teams- they have been absolutely abysmal all season long. You can’t get any lower than worst.

Goodbye Todd Bowles, and good riddance to the stubborn, conservative ineptitude that has plagued us. Without a great OC, Bowles has been exposed.

  45. Jeff Says:

Bucs went full derp mode today! Duh-yup! Clueless Todd strikes again.

  46. GaBucinRh Says:

Why wouldn’t they fire him today??? Set the tone and make it abundantly clear that this kind of play has repercussions… it doesn’t matter who they would replace him with… either way they’re not winning next week.. show that there’s accountability for abysmal and heartless play… SEND A MESSAGE

  47. Pewter Power Says:

I remember we the fire Todd Bowles crowd of the last 3 years arguing with this fan base on this here website every week. Now it’s all out mutiny over what you’ve been blind to all this time and you’re jumping on the bandwagon but better late than never. Weird that now people are realizing their loyalty has to be to the organization not this throwback never was head coach

  48. Tye Says:

Hopefully the rotten stench of Bowels putrid coaching will reach the nostrils of the owners and they quickly become sickened of the whole ordeal!

  49. TheScourge Says:

We need to treat his firing as the foregone conclusion that it is and pretend it’s already happened. There’s nothing left to talk about in regard to Todd Bowles.

  50. Bnasty25 Says:

HeyJude I almost took a screenshot but I was too PO’d lol

  51. Walter Says:

This organization is an absolute JOKE TOILET BOWELS IS A GARBAGE COACH If his ass isn’t fired at the end of the year I’m mailing all my Bucs memorabilia and anything else Buc related to One Buc Palace and they can stick right where the Sun don’t shine WHO ELSE IS SICK OF THIS TRASH Doesn’t even matter because this time next year WE WILL BE HAVING THE EXACT SAME CONVERSATION like we’ve been having for 3 years now
    FA👑 TRASH

  52. Deeboooo Says:

Come on it’s all on baker, guy just forgot how to win.

  53. LawrenceDawsey Says:

Bowles and staff do need to go but no, we could not have had Coen. We never could have had him. Also, who are we bringing in? Bucs need life but it’s gonna get worse veggie it gets better. Long road ahead.

  54. RVATom Says:

The Dolphins weren’t tanking. Don’t get me wrong, the Bucs sucked. But saying the Dolphins were taking iis stupidity.

  55. Walter Says:

WHY DO ALL MY POSTS GET DELETED

    GARBAGE

  56. Rod Munch Says:

The Bucs win the last four games if Baker was nearly a middling QB, he’s single handedly lost them these last four games in a row. If he’s decent, the Bucs are at 11-wins right now.

Blame the coaches all you want, but Baker is the one loses these games all by himself.

  57. Dan the Bucs Fan Says:

Winfield today was grinning on the busted coverage touchdown. I hope he is released by the Glazers once they see it. He is a clown show.

  58. Bobby G Says:

Bowles should apologize to TB fans and refund their wasted money on such a slop season! We can’t even beat another sorry team if their millions of dollars contracts counted on it! Go Bowles…anywhere but Tampa.

  59. 87 Bucs Says:

    Absolutely no fire, no heart.

  60. BigZ Says:

Duh, it’s been that way for years. I’ve said it and many others.

  61. John J Barse Says:

today should be the last nail in the coffin, no matter what happens next week

  62. It's Corn Says:

Nope. Doesn’t explain how they went 6-2.

There’s something in that locker room, who knows what. Maybe Bowles is retiring after this season and they know it.

Aren’t you reporters supposed to be able to get to the bottom of something like this?

  63. John J Barse Says:

and for you people blaming Baker, I don’t know what game you were watching but the receivers were covered the whole game. no separation at all. what do you expect a QB to do? Ask why our guys were covered all game and the other teams were not. Our offensive play calling is vanilla as hell. When you have that and a defense that plays like ours we are lucky to have won any games. No pass rush, its time for a new defense.

  64. Alvin Scissors Harper Says:

Bowels had that grin on his face on the sideline because he was trying to sneak out a fart.

  65. Tony Says:

I’m sure he’s gonna blame South Beach & how they must of been distracted by a bunch of the good looking girls.

  66. Ballwin Bucs Fan Says:

    100%

  67. Confido75 Says:

The Glazers will not do anything until this situation starts hurting their pockets and reputation. I already stopped putting my time and money in this team, because I know they are going nowhere. You all should do the same to send a message to ownership.

  68. DejaVu again Says:

I think a trained parrot could just repeat Baker is bad, Baker lost all of these games. Copy and paste. It continues to amaze me.

  69. KnuteR Says:

The Panthers will spank the Bucs next week and win the division. Bowles’s team is giving up for every game and they should tank in the beginning of the season for draft picks. I pick the Dolphins to win today. The whole team did not want to win the game. The Bucs need to rebuild after this season and Bowles needs to go soon.

  70. Bobby M. Says:

Bowles is trash….no different than he was with the Jets. He’s been propped up by by better QBs and the weakest division in sports in the last 5 yrs.

  71. K Says:

You’re 3 years too late on realizing he’s the issue, Joe

  72. P Sherm Says:

Love the team! Hate the Coach! Never should have been named HC but when do we admit to a bad mistake and move on. When all the season ticket holders bail? When we are the laughing stock of the NFL. Baker should not have to deal with this level of incompetency.

  73. Classics w/Mike Says:

Glad I lived to see them win two super bowls, after watching the early 0 – 26 years…. At this point I just wish they were competitive so I can at least enjoy the dam games, hard to watch…Coach bad, OC unoriginal, still need to draft OL players that can protect…makes everyone look better.. defense philosophy in ruin.

  74. Destinjohnny Says:

Our leading Sacker has 6 sacks
Boys we have a talent problem
Coach isn’t next level but we don’t have good line play

  75. bud liked tht bucs Says:

    trash good kicher though

  76. Bradinator Says:

We all know what needs to happen on Black Monday. I have no faith that we will beat Carolina next week, and even if we do, so what? Another first round playoff loss. We can’t beat any of the teams we’re likely to matched up against. We really don’t deserve a playoff game. Heartless, gutless teams shouldn’t be playing in the playoffs!

  77. vadertime Says:

The Bucs sucked today in all 3 phases of the game. Fire Bowles, fire Grizzard and fire the ST coach. Miami manhandled Tampa with a 3rd string, rookie QB who was drafted in the 7th round. Blocked field goal. Numerous missed or poor tackles. The 3 turnovers gifted from Baker Mayfield, and I really like the guy.

This is a bad team, which is still in ridiculous contention for a playoff spot with two other bad teams in the NFC South – Carolina and Atlanta. We all know that the NFC South is the toilet division in the NFL. I can’t wait for 2026. The Glazers, impotent as they are in making the tough coaching decisons, will probably maintain the mediocrity of this franchise by keeping Bowles on as HC. Fire Bowles, fire Bowles, fire Bowles. Look at his lifetime record of mediocrity. Let’s get a QB out of the draft. Are you listening Licht? Maybe we should bring Kyle Trask back, ha ha ha. Go Bucs. Go Canes (my alma). Happy New Year. Cheers.

  78. Stuck with Green Says:

Rod Munch is what every Jaguars fan was about Trevor Lawrence till now.

  79. Off with his head Says:

What do I think of our head coaches execution?

    I’m in favor of it

Seriously, Bowles defensive “genius” is clearly overrated. I’ve need seems so many busted coverages in my life. With hindsight a great fantasy strategy would be start the QB playing the Bucs each week. Guaranteed playoff winner!
