Baker Mayfield Didn’t Have Time For Pain

December 1st, 2025

Baker Mayfield scrambles in the win over Arizona.

Todd Bowles said after the Bucs’ 20-17 win over Arizona that Baker Mayfield was hurting last week.

Bowles said he is confident Mayfield was in “a lot of pain” early last week but the pain gradually got better. He was pain-free enough that he scrambled a few times Sunday for key yards.

Mayfield doesn’t often do that if he’s hurt.

After beating the Cardinals, Mayfield basically took a line from former Buccaneers radio analyst Jesse “The Body” Ventura in “Predator.” In so many words, Mayfield said he didn’t have time for pain.

“Honestly, it’s part of this game,” Mayfield said. “Everyone is banged up – have to go through certain things. Luckily, I have a physiotherapist that I have worked with for eight years – flies in every week.

“After that, go through the week of treatment with our staff – and the rest of the crew really, really helping us out.

“Specifically, me this week in getting me ready as much as they can and going from there. It takes a village – team effort.”

Mayfield sure didn’t appear to be hurting based on his throws. And as Joe pointed out, Mayfield was running.

So either Mayfield is one tough SOB, or he improved quickly or he had good pain meds to get him through the game.

Joe’s going to lean toward tough SOB.

If you take a needle in the right spot with the right cocktail of ingredients , it sure helps.

If you look closely in the videos and photos his left shoulder pad is much puffier than his right shoulder. Padding and who knows what else is wrapped around his injured shoulder. I would love to see him before his shoulder pads are put on.
He is one of the few bright spots on the roster.
So much BAD football to clean up.. as Bowels says after every time he stands behind the podium
The ranking and W-L record is so deceiving
Trying to stay positive but it’s December for crying out loud!

Baker gives 100%, I am not sure about some of the players on the special teams and defense though. We can pile on Bowles all we want and criticism of him is well justified but it seems to me like some players just play without heart, going through the motions. Some players have pride some do not and the one thing I blame Bowles for is giving a pass to those who play without pride or heart…..

Joe the line is, ” I don’t have time to bleed”.
Regardless Baker is a tough SOB and a team first QB. Hopefully he keeps that going this off season when its time for a new contract.

  5. Ex Browns Fan Says:

He’s having the time of his life
    Fans should too
He was brought in to oversee a rebuilding effort. Two division titles later, the rebuild is near completion
Four last minute comebacks in September. Remember?

  6. Smarter than Joe Says:

Too bad the rest of the roster doesn’t have the same level of heart or fight that Baker has.

Pass defense is SOFT and rarely around the receiver. 3rd and long is just easily attained

    ZERO fight in the defense

  7. Truth be Told Says:

That is because we have a Top 10 True Stud Franchise QB in “Born Again Baker”.

He will keep us competitive for the next 10 Years and we are Truly Blessed as Bucs fans that he landed here. Let’s get Baked! Go Bucs!

Lovin’ Baker! His attitude is awesome.

No storage with the less than talented defensive line. Really miss Kansey.

  10. PSL Bob Says:

And remember, he had two TD passes taken away. One a dropped ball right on the money to CG, the other a score called back because of a holding penalty that wasn’t.

BM6 is a tough SOB!! And I’m sure some pain meds helped too.

  12. Erik with Pilot and Driver™ Says:

An ac sprain/strain is about 90% pain-free after 5 days usually.

So, we’re lucky it was only a sprain.

  13. Kenton Smith Says:

Our defense only allowed 17 points. Did their job. Offense scored 20. Didn’t do theirs. Why? 1st drive , Egbuka dropped perfect 3rd down pass. 2nd drive, ghost holding penalty on Wirfs on 21 yard completion. 3rd drive, Godwin dropped perfect TD pass. 4 th drive, Tez called for pass interference on White TD. 5th drive, Durham hold brought back Bucky TD. That was all in the first half. The offense, with help from the refs, stunk up the field again and we were lucky to win the ballgame. And Baker never once called out anyone. If the Cardinals had won the game late it would have been Baker’s fault. QB is the toughest job on the field and we’ve got one of the toughest.

Offense did it’s job, needed 18 to win
