The Return Of Chris Godwin

November 30th, 2025

Chris Godwin celebrates a catch in the win over Arizona.

Yes, Joe knows Chris Godwin has been on the active roster since the Bucs hosted the Eagles earlier this year.

But today, Godwin was a factor. He looked like his old self.

Godwin had 78 yards receiving, which included a 26-yard catch. Most importantly, Godwin had a beautiful block that sprung Bucky Irving on his 13-yard touchdown run that put the Bucs up 17-3 in the third quarter.

And Godwin was true to his old self afterwards in the locker room. Joe is pretty confident one reason for the sputtering offense was that the Bucs no longer had Godwin throwing quality blocks as he rehabbed his fibula injury.

Godwin didn’t really agree.

“I don’t think necessarily they missed me,” Godwin said of receivers blocking. “As an offense, we have to do a better job of getting downfield and blocking and finishing our blocks.”

Humble Godwin. He’s still the same guy.

“That’s a guy that I have been looking up to since I got here,” Bucky said. “That’s a guy that works hard, each and every day. That’s a guy that takes the game seriously.

“Those are the types of guys you want around that have the true passion and true love for the game. That’s a guy I want to tell my kids one day, my wife one day .. him and Mike Evans, that I got a chance to play with.”

And thankfully for the Bucs, he still has those same fundamental instincts. If Godwin doesn’t get a strong block on that play, perhaps Bucky doesn’t score.

In a three-point win against a sorry team like the Cardinals, not scoring there, who knows how this game or this season turns out? The Bucs are still clinging to the NFC South lead by a half-game.

Glad to see 14 inching closer to the baller we all remember him to be. But that drop in the end zone…can’t happen.

  2. Tampabaybucfan Says:

Definitely good to have Chris back…..now let’s get Jmac & we will have all but Mike & Cody back on offense.

But the truth is….it takes having Mike Evans on the field to help our WRs get open…..Get well Mike.

  3. Aqualung Says:

Great TD drop. Thought it was tipped. It wasn’t and didn’t affect the ball. Perfect Todd Bowels type play.

  4. Deeboooo Says:

Hmm. Todd Bowles is to blame for a TD drop.

    Get out of here loser

  5. buc4evr Says:

Now the Bucs just need an O line.

  6. LakelandSteve Says:

Yes they did miss you Chris, the fans know that.

  7. Football 1 Says:

Hats off to Chris!!!. I know I have been rooting for him to get back and do well. He is one of the reasons I have become a big fan and comment on this website.
How do you not Root!! for a guy like that.
Chris can say what he wants and being honest, his comments are typical him!!!.
With that said the truth is, yes the team missed him big time, the fans missed him big time , the coaches missed him and if honest, I think Chris missed Chris big time. I believe he has had the thought of today’s game in his mind a long ,long time.
Welcome back Chris , I tip my hat with upmost respect

Aquabrain what the FFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFF is WRONG WITH YOU?????????????

  9. BucVoyager Says:

I think there was a hand that flashed in view right before the ball got to him. I didn’t have a problem with that drop. I was more annoyed with the interference called on Tez when it was pretty clear that he was running a route. Refs were not kind to us.

  10. #1bucsfan Says:

The best part is he’s going to prove these haters that call themselves fans all who were crying ohhh we shouldn’t have resigned him our GM is trash wrong. He looks good outside the drop he’s going to start putting on a show like he was last year before he got hurt. Quit crying

  11. Cometowin2 Says:

Good to have Chris back! God bless Chris Godwin!

  12. LANshark Says:

The call on Tez should have been defensive interference. The holding call on Wirfs was pure FANTASY – the guy stumbled and fell and Tristan shoved him down to the ground. NOT HOLDING. And the holding call on Duram was also really WEAK.

That said, Baker would have had 80 more yards if we didn’t have two blatent drops…

    And the defense STILL SUCKS.

    Chump dropped a td

CG14 is playing better every game. Trending in the right direction!

  15. Alvin Scissors Harper Says:

Love Chris, but we way overpaid.

  16. DanBucsFan Says:

Love how the season is playing out. We have had lots of ups and downs. When we were whole and everyone available, a top 3 team. Let’s keep winning close games and get our weapons back in the swing of things and when playoffs start..WHY NOT US?!?! Great team win today, tomatoes who it was, and we can play with ANYONE. Go Bucs!

  17. Aqualung Says:

Ask not what is wrong with an observant poster; rather, ask, what is wrong with a coach who needs miracles to beat the Jets, the Cadinals, and gives up yards like free cotton candy at the pink Pom Pom parties.

  18. Rod Munch Says:

He had the bad drop in the endzone, but I’m not worried about that, that won’t keep happening as he gets back into gameday condition. More importantly, he looked quick, like himself. Earlier this year you could see he didn’t quite look full speed – he didn’t look bad – but he didn’t look like Chris Godwin. Today, he looked more himself, and he’s only going to get better from here. What a huge deal to have him back, probably get back McMillan in a couple of weeks – then the big guy returns as well. I know the idiots in here think you can just roll out anyone at WR and win, and well, that’s why I called you an idiot, since you’re an idiot. WR’s make a ton of money for a reason- and having them back means not having to have Kam and Sterling out there, and that’s a huge upgrade.

Ungodly CG14 was mentored by ME13 (HOF) from the time he came here as a rookie. He is getting his chops back. He and EE2 are formidable in their own right. Now, Grizzard needs to put the pieces together. He sure didn’t’t do it today. Too much emphasis on Bucky Irving, yet again. Play the Aints next week. It will be a dogfight. I just hope Grizzard’s brain shows up.
