“Nobody’s Going To Save Us”

What’s wrong with the Bucs?

A couple of locker room comments might shed some light.

Right tackle Luke Goedeke pulled no punches on the Buccaneers Radio Network after Sunday’s blowout loss to the Rams.

“Abysmal on our end,” Goedeke said with conviction. “The Rams walked all over us in every aspect of the game. … They took it to us.”

Todd Bowles seemed almost to be in denial when he talked about only a few plays worth of major issues within his struggling defense. But Bowels wasn’t delusional. He knows his team has issues and there’s much work to be done.

“We gotta fix our own problems. Nobody’s going to save us,” Bowles told the team’s official postgame show.

Joe still can’t believe how the Bucs seemed heartless and full of quit in the second half of the game, especially the offense. Why?

Where was the pride and the adjustments, and the fire and leadership from backup QB Teddy Bridgewater, who hadn’t played meaningful snaps since 2022?

When you have a HC that runs a cupcake training camp, cuts practices short, gives entire bye weeks off…of course guys love playing for him, he’s like a substitute teacher

  2. FortMyersDave Says:

Joe, I think they quit. It is probably not a good attitude but what do you expect when their coaches do not have answers and hold no one accountable. Fire Bowles.

  3. adam from ny Says:

it’s like the’ve reverted back to zombie mode…like in tommy b’s last season

  4. JReel Buc Says:

Is this site done Defending Bowles can we finally agree that he is the problem or are we going to continue to reach optimistically at a bunch of other factors. BLOW IT UP! Start with the Defense coaching first Defense personel is soo Bad

  5. MelvinJunior Says:

They’ve have several years now, to rebuild this defense. Lickt hasn’t done a DAMN THING to ‘help-it” during these last several free agency periods, either. Not a thing. Basically, JUST a desperate on the CHEAP prayer with Reddick, & that’s about IT. Nothing meaningful.

  6. Rod Munch Says:

Very inspirational talk from Bowles, glad he’s on top of it.

  7. ChrisBuc2327 Says:

What a complete crap display from top to bottom. It is a direct reflection of the coaching no life no aggression no swagger just hot trash ohh and leave grizzard in La along with toilet Bowles and Zion McCollum🗑️🗑️🗑️. It’s the same thing every year on Bowles’ watch and Jason licht staying put at the trade deadline didn’t help either. He needs to get more aggressive in free agency and we need a makeover on the trash defensive front we have currently we needa take a page out of the rams book on how quickly they transformed their d line .

  8. Defense Rules Says:

‘Joe still can’t believe how the Bucs seemed heartless and full of quit in the second half of the game, especially the offense. Why?’

Your ‘heartless’ comment is spot on Joe. This team appears to lack QUALITY COACHING and FIELD LEADERSHIP. It’s built on the premise that if everyone does their job, we’ll do great. Well, not everyone is doing their job and we’re not doing great.

Bucs’ defense especially is very poorly constructed. MAYBE this is karma for the shabby way that the Bucs’ hierarchy treated Jamel Dean.

Todd Bowles is right … “We gotta fix our own problems. Nobody’s going to save us.” Unfortunately he’s not the one to save them either; he is at the heart of the problem. Hard to envision a winning season without Baker Mayfield & with Teddy Bridgewater at the helm of this sh1t-show.

  9. Leopold Stotch Says:

As most have said and what at least one Joe has mentioned, what’s the common denominator? No pass rush. Who’s responsible for that? I say Bowles. How many edge rushers have we had? How much capital do we spend on it? You can blame Licht, but look at what Bowles does with them. Dropping linemen into coverage, having them guard a WR or a RB. We constantly draft man coverage corners, but play zone with them 5-10 yds off the LOS. We had a lot of sacks in the preseason when the two first games weren’t called by Bowles. When he did call the plays? Nothing. It’s the same thing every single freaking game. The only way we get off the field is if the qb and WR are not on the same page. Like I go in watching and go oh thank goodness he missed. Or it was a bad throw or the guy was out of bounds. It’s hardly ever, wow what a great play. And once again, several game stretch after a bye no less, we are on a losing steak. Yeah winning t he division is great, and there’s injuries, but at this point, we gotta do something different

Todd Bowles time in Tampa needs to come to an end now. I noticed each loss was against a team whose coach had their team play aggressive, tackled well, jumped up to tip passes, cbs jumped on the ball n they gain tackled very well. Our Achilles heel is poor coaching across the board,PERIOD. Why didn’t Bowles challenge that Ted Johnson reception that was called incomplete. Also, his OC is in over his head. He is clueless on play calling. Why does Grizzard continues to call the same bubble screen each week that has failed each time. Our five losses have been a result of being outcoached by the following coaches:
    1. Sirianna
    2. Campbell
    3.McDermont
    4.Vrabel
    5. McVay

    Now to the players:
Cade Otton. Pure garbage. I’ve watched him since his rookie year when Brady chewed him out for not continuing his route. Everything that happened to him against the Rams have happened to him since drafted. He has butter fingers. Let defender take ball from him, he’s passive. Allowed a 205 lb cb to tackle him one on one with ease. Where’s his heart n toughness. He has a habit of waiting for the ball to come to him vs coming back to the ball. Where’s the coaching on this.
Rashard had an opportunity to possibly score with two blockers in front of him leading the way as they only needed to block a 201 lb cb but they allowed this player who they collectively outweighed by over 400 lbs to aggressively run over them to make the tackle to stop Rashard from picking up one yard for a first down or possibly score. Pure heart n determination. A sign of Rams coaching well. That play was beyond embarrassing.
    Sterling Shepard is a waste.
McCollum is back to playing like a rookie. Emeka don’t look like the player we once saw the first three weeks of the season. Where is the pass rush? Baker need to quit putting the team in harms way by trying to play while injured which is a risk when he can’t step into his pass or passes doesn’t have enough zip on the ball due to injury which leads to turnovers.
Ted Johnson looks like the only aggressive hard nose player on the team.

  12. Hodad Says:

Dready Bildgewater, what a joke. Bowles hand picked number two looked like number two on the field! Bowles can sure pickem can’t he? From the minute Dready came in he looked like dead man walking, and played like it. His passes had more hang time then my wedge! Glad Todd sent Trask packing. Did him a hugh favor.

    ^^^^^^^^^^

I’m glad someone brought up Practice Squad Trask, we need to keep talking about wasted draft picks no longer on the team…Hodad: how did JTS do yesterday?

  14. QBKilla Says:

What’s wrong? Too many bad draft picks!!

  15. BucU Says:

Where are all you Bowles groupies today??? You all look pretty foolish now don’t you? Garbage coach has turned this team into a laughingstock.
    P A T H E T I C.

  16. Ufcguy197 Says:

Let’s be honest this team ahd these players are a bunch of pre Madonna losers. We have done thus year after year. Newsflash you suck. And I got news for Josh grizzard. Youre fing fir we d too with bowles. This guy is the worst oc in the league. We cannot continue down this oath. We gotta fire these guys. Players I want out. Winfield you suck. Zyon Dennis hall braswell otton. If you want to see how to draft go look at the rams. And the eagles on defense. This staff cant evaluate correctly either. Why do we continue to get bullied on the trenches im calling out Barton and wirfs too. Tf is going with these guys getting smashed. Embarrassed and ridiculous. Do these guys have a strength ahd conditioning program bc it doesn’t look like it compared to the other teams

  17. stucbuc Says:

    Maybe Jesus or Mohammed

  18. Jim Hennessey Says:

Just remember last off season we needed to address the defensive front seven. We didn’t it still sucks.

  19. Stpetematt Says:

This was a bad game. I knew it was going south as soon a Otton got shafted on that being down “fumble”/int. Im not sure what is going on in the locker room (malaise?) but it needs to stop right away. We have to put something together for the rest of the season and every remaining game is winnable. Want to see something weird I read before this season?
    Weirdest pattern I have seen:

2002 – Ohio States wins Natty
    – JLo files for divorce
    – Panthers have losing record
    – 2003 Panthers open season vs Jags and go to SB

2014 – Ohio State wins Natty
    – JLo files for divorce
    – Panthers have a losing record
-2015 Panthers open season vs Jags and go to SB

I think you see where this is headed…

  20. Stpetematt Says:

Would sure be a weird synchronicity if it continues…

  21. 813bucboi Says:

horrible display of a football team!!!

todd has to hold himself accountable…he’s failing

    GO BUCS!!!!

  22. Nicholas Carlson Says:

    Bridgewater stinks. Bring back Trask!

  23. Daniel Z Says:

“We gotta fix our own problems. Nobody’s going to save us,” Bowles told the team’s official postgame show.

You’re the f-ing head coach. YOU’RE the one who is supposed to have a plan to fox the problems. If you don’t have a plan, why are you there?

  24. #1bucsfan Says:

This would have bin a great time to see what trask could have done. If it’s up to teddy for any expanded time we will lose. He looked old and out of shape.

  25. Fred McNeil Says:

All I can say is that was pathetic.

  26. Eckwood Says:

Logan Hall doesn’t play any stronger than his first year !! that’s your answer

  27. Mike Johnson Says:

I don’t see Bridgewater giving us a boost. Before the season started, I was hoping we would go after Brissett who now starts for Arizona. He is a better QB. 6 games left, guys. I will be shocked if we win 3. FIRE BOWLES!

  28. bucsfaninva Says:

Ahhh…McCollum. What a POS. Unbelievable. When he wasn’t loafing, he was injuring his teammates (Sorry Anthony Nelson!). I don’t have much to add that hasn’t been said, but that was difficult to watch. Bridgewater looked like HOT garbage and like it was an imposition to actually have him play. I saw one play where the camera focused on Barton and he was just rolling his eyes and completely disgusted (as was anyone watching who was a Tampa fan).

Bowles has GOT to go. He’s lost the team. If that game didn’t show you, I don’t know what will.

  29. MostlyPeacefulTraskMob Says:

Certainly won’t be Bridgewater saving them

  30. Badbucs Says:

Glazers need to come save us by firing Bowles and staff. As much as it is usually a mistake to fire mid-season, this would be the exception. Bowles has lost the team and Grizz is just too green. We’re going nowhere anyway. Cut the losses and start the coaching search. Find the players you intend to keep and weed out the losers. SB is out of the question. Start the retool now! Go Bucs.

  31. Yusef Says:

Joe, Bridgewater has never had a big personality, and you expect him to fire the squad up? Ok then, yeah not sure about the leadership part, but you could tell the drop-off, even if Baker hasn’t been the same in the last month or so

  32. unbelievable Says:

    Todd Bowles is inept.

We will never been anything more than mediocre with him at the helm. Uninspired, conservative, stubborn and underachieving.

  33. Vegasbuc Says:

Todd needs to send gift cards to the Rams. McVay let up on offense not to run the score up too bad late 3rd and 4th quarter he could have just buried us on the field on National Television putting up 50 on us would have been easy

  34. Brett Says:

I see all the Couch coaches are out in full force. The Buccaneers have the worse fan base. Everyone thinks they know it all and can do better. THERE’S A REASON YOU’RE SITTING ON YOUR COUCH, and not in the NFL.

  35. Jeffrey Becker Says:

as someone who bet the Rams/over, I knew at halftime the final would resemble the halftime score. gentlemen’s agreement to keep everyone safe in the second half. pretty typical in such a game really.
