What Would Happen If Chris Godwin And Bucky Irving Are Active Against Rams?
November 21st, 2025Hey, Joe is just like every Bucs fan out there right now.
Joe is hoping above hope, every day, that the Bucs can get Mike Evans, Chris Godwin, Bucky Irving, Jalen McMillan and Calijah Kancey back.
But if they come back, they won’t be in game shape. Not right away. How many games would it take?
Getting guys on the field is one thing. Getting them in midseason form is a whole different animal.
Bucs offensive coordinator Josh Grizzard discussed this issue yesterday, specifically with Godwin and Bucky. Godwin was a full participant in practice on Thursday. Bucky was limited and it’s been reported he won’t play.
Grizzard said if Godwin or Bucky are available Sunday night in Los Angeles, no way would he try to play them full-time.
“These guys haven’t played in so long,” Grizzard said. To be able to think that they’re going to go out there and play 50 snaps or 55 snaps would be unfair to those guys.
“So, seeing how much they can handle, getting them in there on the plays where we know it’s really critical to that play – let them build their play strength to get their confidence back up, to get back to their top shape.”
The final sentence is smart. Put these guys out there on plays that highlight their skillset. Make every snap count. Don’t have them out there and put them in positions outside their comfort zone.

CH would be nice to have back just to take some coverage away from EE2.

That was supposed to be CG not CH my bad.

Work them in slowly. Even with a loss the Bucs control their own destiny. Need these guys for the last 6 games and beyond.

What is midseason form, battered and bruised?
Sure, they haven’t taken hits but should have fresh legs and a spring in their step. Professional athletes should always be in decent shape. Being old is another thing… Chris will never be Chris. Mike is getting hurt more often. McMillan may never come back to risk his life.
These players might or might not make a difference. In football it’s always a toss up. My question, why is Sean Tucker the 3rd string back?

Sub Godwin in and out one or two plays at a time,
The first half dozen plays for Godwin should be runs and passes to his side of the field where his role is to block. He has always blocked well, and it should let him somewhat control the contact.
Once the pattern is established, run another half dozen plays away from him.
Then, unless he is really feeling great, call it a day.

With our sieve like defense, does it really matter? I wonder if they’ll have Vita covering Puca or Davante?

Houston sacked Allen 8 freaking times and gave up 19 points.
If we actually had a defense, you know, supposedly our Head Coach’s forte, we would be 8-2 at least.
This team is HARD to watch.
How do you screw this up?

Ramping from 0 to 100 when these guys haven’t played basically all season is asking for an injury like a pulled hammy.

Nothing different. Chris is a shell of himself. Bucky is a great runner, probably has a lot of rust right now and isnt the type to carry the team by himself.

They know exactly what to do of course they do. At the end of the game we’ll still say the defense shat the bed again. Bowles needs to stop thinking of himself as some guru

I started texans defense last night , i wasnt impressed with the bills offense vs the bucs.

What happens? The Bucs lose and I doubt that either would survive the game let alone be productive. Jason Licht needs to stop falling in love with damaged goods. Godwin was a horrible signing and Bucky was chronically injured in college. Trash GM, Trash HC, Trash Defense and Special Teams. Bucs should have signed Liam. Huge miss by Licht. Soft GM.

What if CG13 and BI7 were back in L.A. ? One can only dream! Next man up!!

See I told you the excuses would just keep rolling, guys are healthy but not in game shape, once they get in game shape more injuries will occur. This team is not the Buccaneers, they should rename themselves to the Excuseneers.

Wouldn’t change a thing
Still wont be a close game.

JEFF – the fan base would have lost it had Godwin not been re-signed. I was against it, but I was in the minority.
I would also let Evans walk after this year unless he takes a one year deal equal to his remaining cap $$ (13mil)
As for Irving, he wasn’t an upper level draft pick and is on a low money rookie deal — the guy is valuable at that low investment/price.
Licht has kept this team in low-level contention and brought us back out of the cap hell that comes with winning a Super Bowl.
Aside from firing Bowles, what more do you want?

BillyBucco, the Bills scored 19 points. 7 of those points came via a 100 yard kickoff return. Allen had 0 td passes and 0 td runs. Yes. Something is bad wrong with our defense. And it’s been getting worse.

Won’t matter since they play offense. Did you see how many sacks the Texans got on Josh last night? We never even got a sniff of his jersey last Sunday
