“They’re Kind Of Like Houston”

November 20th, 2025

Five picks before the Bucs drafted edge rusher YaYa Diaby in Round 3 of the 2023 NFL Draft, the Los Angeles Rams selected edge rusher Byron Young out of the University of Tennessee.

Damn those Rams!

Young has nine sacks this season and 24 1/2 in his career. Diaby has four this year and 16 overall.

Young and fellow Rams edge rusher Jared Verse, last year’s NFL Defensive Rookie of the year, are a menacing pass rush tandem the Bucs will face on Sunday night. Verse has 18 quarterback hits this season. That’s more than J.J. Watt or Micah Parsons.

Todd Bowles had a scary analogy about the fierce young Rams rushers this week on his official team radio show.

“They’re kind of like Houston,” Bowles said, referring to the Bucs facing dominant edge beasts Will Anderson and Danielle Hunter in Week. 2.

“They really come off the ball and they collapse the pocket. They really collapse the pocket and they make you feel like you’re under more pressure than you actually are. And they’re nonstop motors. It makes it very tough to deal with.”

Does the biblical commandment to not covet apply to edge rushers? Joe highly doubts it.

Against Houston, Graham Barton was overwhelmed at left tackle and Charlie Heck was manhandled at right tackle when he entered the game for then-injured Luke Goedeke. The Texans’ pass rush was relentless and Baker Mayfield saved the day with late-game magic.

Joe’s seen the Rams a few times this season and consistency is what stands out about their pass rush. And the Rams need it because their secondary is suspect.

Joe hopes Sunday’s Rams pass rush isn’t “like Houston” as Bowles suggested. It shouldn’t be with Goedeke and Tristan Wirfs healthy and playing well.

    Poor Baker!

  2. bucnjim Says:

The Rams just had a knock down fight against the Seahawks. Let’s hope it took a little out of them winning their last game. We may catch them off guard.

  3. Joe Sea Says:

Joe citing QB hits! Quick take a screenshot

  4. Whatevs Says:

So Bowles can recognize the importance of great edge rushers actually rushing?

But he can’t draft, scheme, or develop them?

That is your defensive Genius right there. Send them to the flats

  5. Weebs10 Says:

Well I’d hope he has more hits than J.J. Watt lol

  6. 813BUCBOI Says:

Reddick has about the same QB hits as JJ WATT LOL

    GO BUCS!!!!

  7. 813BUCBOI Says:

hoping Grizz sticks with the run game vs the Rams…

control the clock and score 7 not 3…

    GO BUCS!!!!

  8. SteveK Says:

All I want for Xmas is a my two front teeth (for a toothless edge rush!)

  9. drdneast Says:

Rams know how to build a defense and you don’t do it with skinny ass DB’s. You get some alpha dogs which we have none of.

  10. LVMYBUCS Says:

    Reddick=Von Miller

  11. LVMYBUCS Says:

    Both aint worth sh****

  12. HopetheBucswin Says:

Blah blah blah stats. They should be out in coverage and stop rushing the qb so much. Doesn’t LA know how to play defense. Just look how good our edge rush is. Go Bowles our genius DC?

  13. Beeej Says:

Diabi would be more effective if there was someone, ANYone, pressuring from the other side

  14. Upstate NY BUC Says:

What’s up with Reddick?? have not heard a word. not good!!! maybe saving him for the final push?? who knows!!! very vague. Go Bucs

  15. Nutterbuccer Says:

Would love to see what diaby can do with a other good edge rusher out there with him. Shame reddick wasnt the 2023 version and before. Hes a solid edge rusher just not gokd enough to be a number 1.

  16. SlyPirate Says:

    MENTALLY PREPARE YOURSELVES NOW …

    The BAD News
Bowles is routinely outcoached but top OCs and Offensive HC. McVay is top of the class. The Bucs have zero chance in this game. It’ll be U-G-L-Y.

    The GREAT News
This loss will conclude Bowles annual midseason slide. The team will have their “players only meeting.” Baker and LVD will be amazing veteran leaders. And, the team will win go 6-0 or 5-1 to finish the season.

  17. BucU Says:

What a team we have! We may suck on the field but we got great culture!

  18. Stpetematt Says:

With our starting offensive tackles, we have a cure for DE pass rush. Heh.

  19. toopanca Says:

For all of those who were coveting a DT, DE or OLB/Edge in the first round of the 2025 draft, none of those available when the Bucs picked have done much.

Trading for Reddick was well done. When he was on the field, some dismissed his value as he got pressures while Diaby and others got sacks. But, his value can be seen in his absence as, without his pressure, the sacks of Diaby and others have disappeared.

So far, the best players available when the Bucs picked in the first round of the 2025 draft have been Egbuka, Jihaad Campbell, and Carl Schwesinger. I can’t knock the Egbuka pick. But, it was the extremely rare draft where, in hind sight, trading future picks to get Campbell was probably worth it; certainly worth it if the Bucs have Super Bowl aspirations this year.

  20. Mike Johnson Says:

Well Coach Bowles, Hate to tell you this, But come Sunday, you are gonna feel and see what a real Pass Rush looks like. The Rams are high octane and ballin out.

  21. WiscoJoe Says:

Hard to compare Yaya and Byron Young, how often does Young drop into coverage? This is insane man Bowles needs to get it together. I don’t want them to draft another edge rusher until Bowles leaves… it’s a wasted pick.

  22. Lord Cornelius Says:

Verse was my #1 target that draft. Would have been worth the trade up even if it cost a 2nd rounder.

We eventually have to target an actual premium pass rusher.

  23. Lord Cornelius Says:

Bowles didn’t have Shaq and JPP dropping in coverage a ton during our SB run (even though they still did lol). I think if we get the actual horses he would adjust the scheme.

  24. 813BUCBOI Says:

    LC

    BINGO!!!

    i agree with both post…

Licht needs to trade up in the draft for a premium pass rusher AND sign a pass rusher Day1 of FA…

if they produce, they wont drop into coverage…

    GO BUCS!!!!

  25. Pewter Power Says:

Bucs have Two of the best and highest paid tackles in the league. If Rams are winning all game then they should be taking a pay cut. The interior is another story

  26. Love-spiral Says:

    Listening to the latest podcast.
Whoever/whichever joe that keeps yelling at Ira.

Dude, so out of line. How many times are you going to apologize?
Ira is a mature gentleman and does not deserve to be spoken to like that.
It’s hard to hear. Nobody deserves to be spoken to like that.

Yuck. I don’t know if I can listen to more like that.

  27. OneAndThree Says:

Just keep doing things the same way and expect different results.

That’s the definition of sane and rational thinking.

I expect nothing less from Todd Bowels.

  28. Billy Bob Bubba Bo Baggins Says:

I wonder how strong they would be able to go after the QB; if they had to worry about pass coverage responsibilities at the same time, they would be rushing the passer

  29. Kgh4life Says:

Joe is forgetting that the Bucs have to two capable tackles in wirfs and Goedeke. I’m confident they can Baker enough time, it’s the interior that’s the problem.

  30. Deeboooo Says:

Good thing we beat the Texans! We did fine in that game with a hobbled O line, not worried about this game.

rams should be more worried about a hungry Buc team.

  31. ChiBuc Says:

Tbh, I don’t think I’ve ever seen a hungry TB/JL team in a national game other than the SB and that had BA at the helm

  32. Eric Says:

Just listed the the recent podcast. Lee was wrong. Ira never said we don’t need a pass rush.

  33. Eric Says:

    *listened

  34. buc4evr Says:

Still not too worried about the offense. Think the O line will hold up. More worried about what Stafford is going to do with this defense with his rollouts and quick passes. Our defense can never get to him, because they are weak, slow, and stupid. And yes I blame both Todd and Jason for the mess on defense. Jason and Todd both need to go….

  35. Oscar Says:

I agree with Beej in that if Diaby had a counterpart at the other edge maybe his numbers would be better. Unless you’re Myles Garrett, you need some help.

  36. 813BUCBOI Says:

    WOW JOE!!!!!!

I REALLY ENJOYED THAT TODD WRIGHT podcast….

and unfortunately, i dont think he’s wrong…bowles and dan campbell continue to do things that prevent them from being championship teams….

Glazers are happy with being “in the mix”

    great podcast!!!

    GO BUCS!!!!

  37. Lightningvinny1 Says:

Hard to get a sack when you’re in the end zone covering a bomb!! Maybe Todd should go back to the bend but don’t break conservative D , at least that D kept things in front of them and didn’t give up many big plays ,,,, the last few weeks Bucs have given up many big play TDs,, maybe simplify the D instead of Bowles exotic, complicated , genius style D

  38. Oahu Jimothy Says:

So Bowles talks about other teams rushing his own QB and how disruptive it is and yet, he doesn’t see the importance of a pass rush for his own team? SOME ONE MAKE IT MAKE SENSE!!! I am with Lee on this one, this one is infuriating. Also, Ira handled that outburst with all the emotional intelligence in the world!
