“Our Guys Are Bought In”
November 16th, 2025UPDATED: The NFL only allows teams 11 practices in pads through the first 11 weeks of the regular season (and 14 padded practices, total in the regular season). This is a reason why the Bucs only had walk-through or underwear football practices this week.
So Joe is not trying to be a cynical a-hole here, but Joe isn’t sure how you instill a killer instinct in a couple of days when a team is only playing patty-cake in practice.
This is the NFL in the 21st century.
After last week’s loss to the Patriots, Bucs quarterback Baker Mayfield wagged a finger at his teammates for not having a killer instinct. The team must develop one if they want to win meaningful games in two months.
Caught by Evan Washburn of CBS as the Bucs arrived to Ralph Wilson Stadium in windy Orchard Park, N.Y. this morning, Mayfield gave Washburn insight into the mindset of the Bucs this morning, and in the wake of his scolding of teammates.
“[I can] just tell throughout the week that our guys are bought in, understand where we went wrong in the last couple of weeks, especially on offense,” Mayfield said. “And what we need to get corrected, yeah, good week of practice. Now we just got to translate it.”
Also, NFL insider Jordan Schultz reported Buffalo wide receiver/bust Keon Coleman is expected to be a healthy scratch when today’s actives are announced at roughly 11:30 a.m.
And yes, Joe is in Orchard Park, N.Y. today.

Whatever happens today the Bucs won’t be losing because of the weather, a lack of effort or because they’re not sufficiently motivated. They’re still missing too many guys though, and Buffalo got their wake-up call after last week’s beatdown in Miami. This is a tough game to expect the Bucs to win.
Also, I’m not sure what kind of attitude Keon Coleman is giving in Buffalo but that’s a waste of talent if it doesn’t get straigtened out. That kid busted his tail improving himself in college and just turned 22 a few months ago. A change of scenery might do him some good.

You shut down James Cook by forcing Buffalo into a passing game. So score points on offense, and do it quickly. Shutting down cook by playing defense on him is probably not going to work.
At Hooters to watch the game today. Go Bucs!
