Larry Foote: Josh Allen Is Like Brett Favre

November 14th, 2025

Josh Allen reminds Larry Foote of a Hall of Fame quarterback Foote played against.

Bucs outside linebackers coach Larry Foote has played against and coached against very, very good quarterbacks since he was first drafted in 2002.

When making an analogy about quarterbacks, Foote compared the stud the Bucs will face Sunday, Josh Allen, to Hall of Fame quarterback Brett Favre.

Favre, at times, was a reckless quarterback who sometimes played like he was in a neighbor’s backyard. Foote didn’t mean to compare Allen to Favre in that way at all.

Farve was sneaky smart, savvy, Foote said. And Allen does things smartly like Foote saw Favre do. One way was how Favre played against aggressive defenses.

“You [have] to watch your terminology when you say, ‘You’ve got to kill him. You have got to get him down,'” Foote said of Allen. “[Because] you are going to be more aggressive and [he is] going to use it against you.

“He’s old school like Brett Favre. He does a real pump fake, and guys have to stay on their feet.

“The coaching part is you [have] to slow down, come under control and get him down. You [have] to wrap him up, but when he wants to make the plays, he is going to be able to make the plays, we just cannot let it take over the game.”

The Bills offense is a mess outside of running back James Cook. Now if you look at Allen’s numbers, they are very similar to recent years with the exception of two.

Allen’s QBR rating is way down but his sacks are way up. Joe’s not paying attention to the sacks because the Bucs seemingly refused to pay creepy Bob Kraft a tariff to get after Drake Maye last week, the second-most sacked quarterback in the league.

The Bucs had one sack on Maye last week and that came from Elijah Roberts, a defensive tackle. However, apparently, Allen’s not connecting on deep throws this year as he has in the past because his receivers are trash on deep throws.

Josh will throw the ball to the Bucs. The Bucs have to catch it.

Why do I have a sinking feeling this show will be a rerun we have all seen many, many, many times. A get well game from our opponent. Would like to be very wrong and eating crow come Sunday. Go Bucs

  3. Allen Lofton Says:

The Bucs inconsistent play of late makes it harder on the Bucs to walk away with a win playing in the Bill’s wintery stadium 🏟 ONE CAN ONLY HOPE.

    Incompetent

  5. Beeej Says:

If we win, it will be the first time in Josh’s career he’s lost two in a row

  6. Lt. Dan Says:

The Bills offense is a mess. The Bills defense is very porous, especially against the run. Is it just me or does this game feel like the Bills win easily. Just seems like a very Bucs Sunday is on tap.

  7. Kenton Smith Says:

Beeej. That didn’t sound right. Last month the bills lost consecutive games. Josh has lost 2 straight 7 times in the NFL. Where in the world are you getting your information?

  8. Steven #55 Says:

Pound the Rock, throw beyond the marker, plug the gaps and deny the big play. Simple really!

  9. Gipper Says:

Too bad about Buffalo but Bucs are missing 5 of 11 starters on offense. Next man up sounds brave, but when you are missing highly paid, talented players it is not possible to fully replace these guys with guys picked up from waiver wire or practice squad. Just hoping Baker doesn’t get maimed between now and end of season.

  10. Bucnjim Says:

The Bucs better have a plan to stop the run like they used to. Then they have a good chance. Let Allen & Cook run free, and this game will get out of control quickly.

  11. Kenton Smith Says:

Beeej. Allen lost consecutive games last month to the Falcons and the Patriots. He hasn’t lost three straight since his rookie season. They are very beatable this year. No way do we lose this game.

  12. Baking with Grizz Says:

No worries. Braswell will shock Bucs fans with 3 sacks in the first half.
The game will be remembered as THE BRASWELL EXPLOSION.
    No worries.

  13. NE Fan Says:

No way Bucs stop Allen at home, you couldn’t stop 2yr rookie Maye. Oh wait, he’s 9-2. Maybe you have a slim chance. Baker Mayfield, the king of garbage yards.

I needed a good laugh, Baking with Grizz.

  15. Bojim Says:

The Pats had some weakness too but we failed to take advantage.

  16. FootBall1 Says:

Yes after seeing what I saw last Sunday against the Patroits, I have little faith. The Bucs currently just have to much talent out. The offense just has no or little fire power after E E. The defense?. Man I don’t know give up huge plays like last week when the Patroits were without 2 starters at receiver and running back, a little scary. Yes Mayfield said it right. Defense definately not hungry and they really need a mlb. I don’t see the Bucs winning this game and definately not the Rams. Yes we will be 6 and 5 in a couple weeks with Car coming on. The next 2 games will tell if the season is done, which I am beggining to believe it is.

BUCS havent lost back to back games this year!!!!!

hope that helps someone out lol

    GO BUCS!!!!

The pessimism on this site is absurd and distressing. It’s as if our so called “fans” want us to lose. DVOA ranks us as the 10th best team in the league and Massey as sixth. Our fans think we are underperforming. Our offense is playing without its top three wide receivers from last year and it’s best running back. This is not an excuse. It is a fact. Are we underperforming? Yes if you think we are as talented as we would be without all the injuries to starters. But no, not you consider the talent and experience of the actual starters. The best comparison is the 49ers, the other most injured team. They are 6-4; we are 6-3.

  19. Tampa 3 Says:

Well said Steven#55. Let’s see if they can pound the rock. Go Bucs. 7-3

  20. Defense Rules Says:

Joe … ‘The Bills offense is a mess outside of running back James Cook.’

Their offense is a mess? Buffalo is 6-3 on the season thus far. They have the #6 ranked NFL offense, having scored 248 points in 9 games … 27.6 PPG average. They also have the #2 ranked NFL offense in terms of Time of Possession … 33:12 mins TOP per game average.

For some reason Joe that doesn’t strike me as being an offense that is ‘a mess’. It strikes me as being an offense that’s figured out how to use the assets that it has remaining in a pretty effective way. Bucs might take note.

Bills run on 49.0% of their plays … and sport the #1 rushing attack in the NFL (278 rushes for 1379 rushng yards … 5.0 YPC … with 16 rushing TDs & 75 rushing first downs). Their 2 top runners: James Cook (166 rushes for 920 yds … 5.5 YPC with 7 TDs & 44 first downs) and Josh Allen (59 rushes for 311 yds … 5.3 YPC with 7 TDs & 23 first downs).

But their Passing Offense is also very good IMO. Allen is throwing at a 70.4% completion rate, with 15 passing TDs against only 5 INTs, and they’ve gotten 105 first downs passing.

There’s an easy way to beat the Bills: take the ball away from them. They’ve only had a total of 9 giveaways this season (rank in the Top-10 in that category). BUT … 8 of those 9 giveaways occurred in their 3 losses. Bills lost the Turnover Battle in each of those 3 games … and that’s what doomed them.

And BTW, neither Cook nor Allen scored in ANY of their 3 losses, the only 3 games neither scored in.
