“More Than Incredible”
October 30th, 2025It sounds like a Buccaneers Hall of Fame linebacker has encountered a healthy share of Todd Bowles detractors.
Joe’s referring to Mr. Derrick Brooks, the new chief operating officer of University of South Florida athletics.
A guest on WDAE radio this evening, Brooks was asked to weigh in on the job Bowles has done this season guiding Tampa Bay.
“More than incredible” is how Brooks described Bowles’ performance.
“Coach Bowles does not get enough credit that he deserves for the success that he’s had in his tenure as head coach,” Brooks said.
“I’ve said it to those who would listen (laughs) that he’s done a remarkable job. And I think he doesn’t get the credit that he deserves at all. So I’m very proud of Coach’s leadership and the fact that he loses coaches and coordinators year in and year out, yet he keeps our team competitive and fighting for first place right now.”
Joe found Brooks’ chuckle interesting when noting he’s been selling Bowles to “those who would listen.”
Indeed there is a vocal minority around town that is down on the fourth-winningest head coach in Bucs history.

A lot of ignorant football fans site at home on the couch and scream about a coach and while ignoring a hundred other coaches, pundits, and players who talk about him being a defensive mastermind and a fantastic coach to play for.
They literally had no 4 man pass rush for a few years and yet were 9th, 10th, 4th the last 3 years because of his schemes.
Two of the last four years the defensive backfield has been absolutely decimated. If it wasn’t him coaching this defense, I firmly believe they would’ve missed the playoffs the last two years.

I think the loud ones are anti Bowles. It’s good for Brooks to come out of the closet with the Bowles love.
Todd Bowles is a great coach and I’m thankful we have him!

Tua in Miami is terrible.
Maybe when McDaniel gets fired we can hire him for OC.

We are Bucs fans. We’re here to talk about the organization. We praise the good and criticize the bad to make it good. In this day in age when done professionally it’s called constructive criticism. Everybody here wants to see Tampa 3-0 in Super bowl’s. I hope Todd gets it done or were going to be waiting awhile.

That was truly an awful TNF game.
Glad to see things are returning to the norm after having a bunch of good games earlier in the year.

Another clam from inept refs. Miami got robbed on that ridiculous illegal non chop block call. Pitiful.

We are not winning anything with Bowles, if the offense is clicking the def sucks, if def is playing good the offense is nowhere to be found and then Special team coaching is not a thing for the Bucs. Seems like ppl just go in there and do what they can.

A lot of the criticism of Bowles is his sideline demeanor and how he is so passive. He is also quite passive and a bit elusive in alot of his pressers. Us fans, myself included, often look at his passive nature on the sidelines and in his chats with the press and get angry as he is not firey and animated like Chucky, he also does not tell the whole world that he is accountable for his team’s shortcomings like someone like Dan Campbell but we do not know what he does behind the scenes, obviously the players like and respect him which is something that not all NFL teams can say about their head coaches. At the same time he is not the players best buddy, something that was part of Rah’s downfall here in tampa (and perhaps it is happening again in the ATL). Yeah, he makes boneheaded calls, or at least seems to and he almost never gets angry in public but maybe, just maybe, he is bit more aggressive when it is just him, the coaches and the players behind closed doors in the meeting or locker room where the press and fans are not present to judge the dude.

Bowles kept the Bucs on track while doing a significant rebuild after the Super Bowl.
I don’t think that he is perfect, but he is way ahead of a lot of the coaches Tampa has had in the last fifty years.
Fortunately, he also has the support of a good manager, and the Glazers don’t seem to have gotten into another financial pinch since recovering from the Great Recession.
Too many moving parts, maybe, to say just how good Bowles is. A lot of extraneous things can affect a ream that the coach has little control of like injuries and the budget he is given to work with.
But, get a an NFC Title game, and he is going to be looking quite good indeed.

I’ve had my moments of doubt. But you have to admit the team gets better every year.
October 31st, 2025 at 4:01 am
His game management and I wound say understanding of how modern offensive football/analytics work, or lack thereof, was an hindrance in ‘23 and ‘24. He just couldn’t come to understand that in certain situations you cannot kick and need to take the risk of leaving the offense out there. I would imagine the playoff loss last year and watching what Quinn did helped with that.
He’s been great this year in that department.
I don’t have any complaints, especially with the injuries factored in. I get annoyed at the running backs catching the ball out of the backfield and running free but that’s a personnel issue that I’m sure will get addressed in the offseason or maybe by Tuesday.
Def a coach of the year candidate.

“Coach Bowles does not get enough credit that he deserves for the success that he’s had in his tenure as head coach,” Brooks said.

You telling me that Derick Brooks actually said that?
Woah, I am shocked!
Quick. Stop the presses.

If you don’t like Bowles, feel free to go watch teams coached by Schiano, Lovie, and Dirk. You’ll appreciate what we have now.
October 31st, 2025 at 6:36 am
he was handed a superbowl winning team that included tom brady at qb. he has since coached it to an average regular season record, all years. no collapses but certainly havent blown the doors off the nfc south any year.
they have won one playoff game in all his years as hc, exiting in the wc round 2/3 times.
he’s been average, so far as hc. why is that so hard to accept?
October 31st, 2025 at 6:58 am
jimmy, did you really see Brady and his final game at Tampa? We all did. Seems like you didn’t. The Bucs stunk up the field starting with Brady. I watched that game before I was a Bucs fan. And like any football fan I thought how Brady looked pitiful. Vegas said they’d win 4 games in 2023. Bowles wasn’t paying attention to the experts. He’s been too busy winning more and more games each year. So Jimmy, why is that so hard to accept?
October 31st, 2025 at 8:01 am
folks who bash bowles know nothing about building a winning culture or football!!!!!
simple as that!!!!
6-2!!!!
GO BUCS!!!!
October 31st, 2025 at 8:10 am
Jimmy, just looking at records?
You’re an idiot. We were in cap hell, Brady was detached his final season, 3 of 5 starting O linemen suddenly gone and had coaches coming and going… and not due to being fired but getting promotions else where. Bowles was NOT handed a Superbowl team. A lot of important parts needed replacing with little money to work with. He had a good core in place, that’s why we kept winning the division. 6-2 with a decent chunk of the offense injured… so far in 2025, as Bowles would say about many of his players after a solid game…
“Hell of a job!”
October 31st, 2025 at 8:15 am
I also want to point out that other intangibles are huge with Bowles… the way he works with Licht, the culture they’ve created and death they’ve built. Good stuff. Let keep it going and put the Hammer to the Patriots and Bills.
October 31st, 2025 at 8:23 am
Referring to Bowels as the Bucs fourth winningest coach is not exactly a ringing endorsement.
October 31st, 2025 at 9:12 am
So far so good!! Get the healthy players playing their best ball and all will be fine!! Get it done!
October 31st, 2025 at 9:19 am
One look at the Ravens could answer a lot of questions. How have they been with Lamar on the sidelines? Anyone screaming that Harbaugh is a POS coach? Are they showing signs of life now that their offensive cog is back behind the wheel? Some people are just trolls and instigators and that’s their schtick. Hey Chicken Schticks.

Jimmy, just looking at records?”
what are you looking at, what else matter goofball. culture?
wins and losses is what matters, his record is average with the bucs as HC. last year was a debacle considering how loaded they were on offense and how well they performed on offense.
a whole lot of excuse making here in this thread.

I want to believe the players and others who know him personally. However, this is a see-it-to-believe-it world now. What we see is a coach who, on camera and on-field, appears unintelligent, uninterested, dispassionate and tired.
October 31st, 2025 at 10:44 am
…and confused.
October 31st, 2025 at 11:01 am
Glad he’s our coach. He’s gotten better as a coach to.
October 31st, 2025 at 2:59 pm
Yes Todd Bowles is that Man.
He is the perfect coach to lead the Bucs out of the costly Brady years.
Going all in for 1 super bowl was worth it for another championship but as most can see it creates weaknesses after the fact.
JL & TB learned a lot and are building something sustainable for multiple seasons.
Just imagine how bad it could have been without Todd’s ability to bandaid a patchwork defense together. Last years version was historically weak & consistently hard to watch at times against the pass. But they have added talent players & coaches and are improving.
Looking forward to seeing this teams play in January.
Go Bucs!
October 31st, 2025 at 3:13 pm
25 games until Todd becomes the winningest coach in TB history 😳
October 31st, 2025 at 5:17 pm
Bowles is COTY Easily … Easily
Today, right now, and all season long, we’ve had 6-7 starters out on offense and a rotating 2 on defense. That’s nearly half the team’s starters. The Bucs are 6-2. That’s unreal. That’s coaching. He’s killing it.
